Mehso-so

26 Aug-1 Sep 25 (audiobook)
Obama‘s summer reading list
Perhaps it was the audio format, or just the wrong book at the wrong time, but this was beyond me and I should have bailed. I found it very difficult to follow the different characters and timelines, and how their stories interconnected. I did not even really listen to the last 30 minutes or so.
Rated so-so because I do think the problem was me. And I enjoyed the Hannah Arendt sections.

Anna40 I started reading it two times and put it away each time. I think this is a difficult book for audio. It‘s a novel you need to read slowly and be in the right mindset for. Eventually, I really want to read it to the end but I feel it‘s too complex and too much for me right now but I loved the premise and writing as far as I got (about 50 pages 😬) 3mo
mjtwo I agree @Anna40. I think I may buy a hard copy and try again. 3mo

I haven‘t been posting links to my booktube videos lately, mostly because the Litsy app no longer works properly on my iPad, making its use inconvenient. Anyway, Madeleine Thien‘s remarkable book is in the latest episode. (Please let me know if you want me to continue posting links.)

AnneCecilie Can‘t wait to watch this video and your views on Thien‘s latest (edited) 5mo
Butterfinger Yes, I was thinking of you the other day. Children at camp were being taught about folk art. I was giving examples of weaving and dying the wool. 5mo

Lindy @LeahBergen Thanks for your encouragement. 😊 Yes, I have tried deleting and redownloading the app. No luck. It‘s partly functional but I can‘t include images in Litsy on my iPad. 5mo
Lindy @AnneCecilie Thanks! I even have a Norwegian author included in this episode. 🇳🇴 5mo
Lindy @Butterfinger Hi Tammy! It‘s nice to hear that you think of me. ☺️ 5mo
marleed Oh yes, I enjoy your posts! 5mo
Lindy @marleed Thank you Marlee! ☺️ 5mo
Butterfinger The concept of claiming empathy hurts civilization. That is the scariest thing I have heard. 5mo
Lindy @Butterfinger I know! 👿 5mo

Madeline Thien was one of the first authors to follow me back when I was on Twitter after I reviewed her book for the blog. I was soooo excited. I loved “No not say we have nothing” and very much looking forward to reading this book. Will it be a contender for this year‘s Booker?

Avanders Ooh curious to hear about this one! 😄 6mo

Does the quality of a given life depend on what a person chooses to love? This question is raised in Madeleine Thien‘s ruminative new novel.

TrishB I just read the review on this in The Guardian today. It sounds fabulous! 6mo
Lindy @TrishB Yes, I am really enjoying it. It‘s philosophical, so I am taking my time with it. 6mo
TrishB I‘ll definitely be getting this one! 6mo

“To be alive and think are the same thing(228)”.
This graphic novel was in our HS library.I think it is a reliable, researched, brief readable summary of Arendt‘s life & worksThe graphics are fun, facial expressions & body language authentic,Exaggerations of faces, bodies add a playful element. The language is modern- might that be due to the author‘s intended audience? Examples:Lines are “The Game is AFoot 9.1.1939 (100)”The Fleet Street Pundts(101).”

kspenmoll The author‘s graphic artistry in capturing settings:war‘s destruction, camps, NYC, is elemental to the author‘s grasp of time & place,& reveals a sense of realism throughout. #adventuresinphilosophy #HannahArendt (edited) 6mo
