Here it is: our 2025 #FurrowedMiddlebrowClub reading schedule!

Thanks for all the nominations and speedy votes. It looks like we‘ll be having another enjoyable year together! 👏

And, as always, anyone is welcome to join in at any time to read along with us and discuss, of course.

Ruthiella Awesome. Thank you @LeahBergen for organizing us. Looking forward to another fun year of reading together! 2h

Mr. Partridge on view of Dormouth Bay, “It had the lowest death-rate in Great Britain, and no illegitimate births. It was a beauty-spot and moral all in one.

Sulkily, Mr. Partridge descended.”

😂😂🤣🤣 Poor bored Mr. Partridge. #Furrowedmiddlebrowclub

Ruthiella He‘ll get plenty of excitement soon! 12h
Tamra @Ruthiella I suspect so! 11h

Mehso-so

Well, this one was a bit of a disappointment for me. The hijinks were amusing, but Lizbeth and Ronnie got on my nerves. And Mr. Partridge, although adorable, was a bit odd in the way he just pushed himself into their lives. I surprised myself with my reaction, as I usually adore our #FurrowedMiddleBrowClub picks. 😕

Tamra I‘m only about 30% in and I can tell it‘s going to be full of shenanigans with Ronny. 14h
Ruthiella Hot take! 😆 I did find Ronnie completely annoying! 13h
quietjenn I can definitely see all of that. 12h

julieclair @Ruthiella Yes! I‘m usually much more mainstream, lol!😆 11h
julieclair @quietjenn 💛🧡🤎 11h
julieclair @Tamra Absolutely! Keep reading! 😝 11h
LeahBergen What @Ruthiella said! I was able to cut Lizbeth a bit of slack but Ronnie got on my last nerve. 😆 6h

The Snow-woman | Stella Gibbons

I don‘t think we‘ve read Stella Gibbons yet. Here are our two winter-themed choices for November 2025 for members vote on. #FurrowedMiddleBrowClub

LeahBergen We haven‘t read any Gibbons yet! Let‘s see … I like the sound of 4d
willaful Overdrive has The Woods in Winter so I'll vote for that. 4d
Ruthiella Nice seasonal thematic work going on there! 👍 I‘ll flip a coin and pick (edited) 4d
See All 28 Comments
Tamra I already had this one TBR 4d
kwmg40 I‘ll vote for 4d
quietjenn Nice! I haven't read this one, so will vote for 4d
Kimzey @LeahBergen @willaful @Ruthiella @Tamra @kwmg40 @quietjenn Well, I may have been fooled by covers and titles. This may not be seasonally themed after all. Apparently “Snow-woman” is metaphorical and the book is set in spring and summer! 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I‘ll still stand by my Gibbons choices! 😊 4d
Ruthiella @Kimzey Stella Gibbons punked us! 😂 4d
LeahBergen @Ruthiella She did! 😆 4d
elkeOriginal I will vote Snow-Woman as I have already read Woods… 4d
Kimzey Do I get to vote for my own? I see one of the two is on Audible, which is a handy option, so I will vote for 3d
elkeOriginal I think knowing availability options is key! Good to know about Audible for Woods. 2d
Kimzey @elkeOriginal Yes, I read more audio books than physical books these days! 2d
LeahBergen @Kimzey We usually don‘t vote on our own picks (at first) as you‘ll be asked to cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie. It doesn‘t really matter with this one as it seems The Woods in Winter is ahead! 😆 1d
Kimzey @LeahBergen Oh, okay! 😊 Please, discount my vote! But, like you said, it may not make a difference. Will you go through and tabulate votes, or should I declare a winner? 1d
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads @CarolynM @Teresereading @julieclair @Cathythoughts One more to vote on here, in case you missed it! 😀 1d
Kimzey @LeahBergen Without counting my vote, so far it‘s 3 votes for Snow Woman and 4 for Woods in Winter. 1d
LeahBergen @Kimzey I was going to wait a little longer (maybe until tomorrow?) and then count all the votes and make a post. When I do that, I‘ll write a “such and such is the winner” comment at the end of each of the six voting posts to show voting is over. Very scientific, I know! 😂 1d
LeahBergen @Kimzey That‘s what I had in my count, too. Perhaps your Audible comment will sway some final voters! 1d
Kimzey @LeahBergen Thanks for sending the voting reminder! 1d
CarolynM @LeahBergen Thanks Leah. I‘ll vote for 1d
julieclair @LeahBergen Thanks for the tag! I had missed it. I vote for 1d
rubyslippersreads I got confused about which books I‘d voted for, but I‘ll pick 12h
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen I think I voted for my pick on another thread. 🙈 Hope it‘s not a problem. (edited) 12h
LeahBergen And the winner is The Woods in Winter! 2h

Pickpick

This was a delightful romp with a little bit of romance.

Middle aged Mr. Partridge takes a chance and hitches his star to young Lizbeth Campion, who is trying to reform her rather useless brother Ronnie. The trio moves to London and finds an assortment of odd jobs, but will Ronnie stick with anything? And will Lizbeth marry her rather strait laced fiancé, Captain Brocard, who very much disapproves of Ronnie?

#FurrowedMiddlebrowClub

LeahBergen Great review! I must confess… I kind of wanted to give that Ronnie a slap a few times. 😂 4d
Ruthiella @LeahBergen Totally! Like Fred Vincy in Middlemarch, he doesn‘t deserve his luck! 4d
LeahBergen Yes! 😆 4d

Susan Settles Down | Molly Clavering
post image

Here are my two possibilities for September 2025 for #FurrowedMiddlebrowClub members to choose from.

Both are authors we‘ve read previously. Another light romance set in Scotland from Clavering OR another humorous look at village life from Fair.

Let me know in the comments which one tickles your fancy the most!

Sace I‘m always up for humorous village life. 1w
kwmg40 I‘ll vote for 1w
julieclair Another really tough choice. I‘ll go with (edited) 1w

elkeOriginal Gotta go with Scottish Highlands and Susan! 1w
Tamra Maybe because it‘s a gloomy November day, but I‘m attracted to Landscape in Sunlight. 🌞 1w
willaful Hard choice, they both look appealing. But I'll always take romance. 😁 1w
LeahBergen I want to read both 😆 but I‘ll vote for 1w
quietjenn I've read the other, so voting for 1w
Kimzey I want both! 😊 But I choose Scotland and 1w
CarolynM Since I voted against Molly Clavering before I‘ll join the crowd here 😆 1w
LeahBergen And the winner is Susan Settles Down! 2h

I had a jolly good time with this book. What a hoot! I hope Mr Partridge finds his new flat mates as worthy of his stewardship as Lisbeth and Ronny🤣

#FurrowedMiddlebrowClub

Ruthiella Awesome. I‘m looking forward to finishing. I could do with a little gentle comedy. 1w
LeahBergen I think I might need another book about his time with the pastry chef family. 😆 1w
CarolynM @Ruthiella You‘ll certainly get that with this one😊 1w
