Sonnets from the Portuguese | Elizabeth Barrett Browning

This was definitely an indulgence buy! A 1962 Folio edition of "Sonnets from the Portuguese". I already have a nice old copy, but this was soooo prettyyyyy! ? I can't take a photo that does justice to the beautiful cloth covering. The gold-coloured slip case is a little battered, but aren't we all from that vintage?
I have a couple of books on order, but otherwise I *must* make a real effort to pause buying books!

North and South: Easyread Edition | Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell

Book sorting rescues - a Folio edition of the tagged Gaskell and Memoirs of the Early Italian Painters from 1875. Not that I'm super interested in Italian Painters, but it's such a lovely little thing.

Aimeesue @IndoorDame I am extremely fortunate to live in a pretty affluent, well read area where a lot of the older citizens are downsizing. We get a lot of great donations. We also get a lot of garbage - today there were SEVEN books about vitamins. Who needs that many vitamin reference books?? 😂 2y

I bought this #folio for myself months ago during the sale because, Titanic. I knew I needed something well written to get me out of my reading funk and the writing in this ended up being exquisite, with beautiful illustrations that were also done by the author. #foliofreaks

Another lovely anthology, this one from The Folio Society. Includes short pieces under the headings Home and Away, Christmas at Sea, In Foreign Lands, Seasonal Feasts and Entertainments, The Back or Beyond, and In Time of War & Other Perils. T.S. Eliot's The Journey of the Magi serves as epilogue.
