White Teeth | Zadie Smith

Pickpick

This book focuses on two wartime friends, Bangladeshi Samar Iqbal and Englishman Archie Jones, and their families in London. It centers around Britain‘s relationships with people from formerly colonized countries in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. Major themes are immigration, roots, teeth, chance, race, assimilation and fundamentalism. I found it to be a powerful book with lots of wit and insight. Not to be missed!

This is my 2nd book for the 1st week of the #bookaweekreadingchallenge. It‘s the 9th book of the Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry. If you want to read this series, you should start with book 1, The Templar Legacy. These are great adventure reads. I learned more about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War and the Mormon Church. Was the Civil War only about slavery? Was it a necessary war? Learn a stunning truth that can tear the United States apart.

Andrew65 I do overall enjoy this one even if Cassiopeia was acting strange, I think Steve Betrybgave a good and be,ieve context for it, luuurvve and the blindness it can cause. Loved learning about Lincoln, the constitution and the Civil War. Can‘t wait to get to book 10 to find out what happens between Cassiopeia and Cotton. 6y

EadieB @Andrew65 I took a peek and flipped the pages of the next book and didn‘t see Cassiopeia‘s name at all. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Naughty 😂 But oh no, they may need a break for a while! I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Given good details on Librarything why I gave it 4 Stars. (edited) 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I gave 3 stars but marked it as a pick because the story deserves 4 but the characters of Cassiopeia and Cotton were out of character so I marked it down. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Whilst they acted out of character I felt there was reason and I felt Steve communicated this well. Love and it‘s emotions can cause us to act out of character. (edited) 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 That is true! I did feel bad giving it a 3. I should probably change mine to 4. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB My own feeling is it was worth more than a 3 but we all react differently to books and favourite characters. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I guess I felt persuaded by the others but now you have persuaded me to switch to a 4 and I‘m going to do it. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Only if you feel that it is right. 3.5 is another option. Sometimes we can be affected by what others score it. I always try to decide on a star rating before looking at other‘s ratings because so easy to be swayed. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Changed to 4 because I have give 4 on Goodreads anyway. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB That makes perfect sense! 6y

Desolation Mountain: A Novel | William Kent Krueger

Pickpick

This is my #recentreadfromfavgenre which is mystery suspense. It is book 17 in the Cork O‘Connor series. If you haven‘t started this series, you should by reading book 1, Iron Lake. Krueger‘s writing beautifully captures a sense of place but with a powerful emotional punch. Believable characters well-drawn and excellent plots. Recommended for those who love mystery suspense.

Day 3 #septinbooks18 #bookaweekreadingchallenge

Andrew65 Must get to these. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Yes! A great series! 6y
Cinfhen Can it also be read as a stand alone???? 6y
See All 7 Comments
EadieB @Cinfhen yes but it‘s best to start at the beginning of the series 6y
Cinfhen I don‘t have it in me to go back 17 books!!!! 6y
EadieB @Cinfhen they are all 5 star reads! Start with the first one in order to get to know the characters (edited) 6y
Cinfhen Not a bad idea xx thanks 6y
