I was expecting more of a thriller, with maybe a dash of horror and that is not what this is. Every character is awful and I wanted a higher body count.

2-20-25: My 14th finished book of 2025! Fantastic concept but a fizzled ending. Alfred Smettle, a Hitchcock super fan, has bought a house by his old college campus, redone it, and turned it into the Hitchcock Hotel. On the 1st anniversary of its opening he invites his friends from college for a weekend of fun, and murder. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣1️⃣4️⃣
2-15-25: I hear it‘s snowing in Philly right now while I‘m reading a new book in Florida💖
I quite enjoyed this one!! Now the well-worn saga of “what do I read next??” The first book choice of the year is so important!
I do love when publishers make a great effort like this for books. Every chapter, section, quotes like this have received nice attention. It makes for an enjoyable reading experience for sure.
I started this one on Christmas Day because I was close to finishing the Fredrik Backman and I was feeling the tears were going to start pouring, so I quickly reached for this one so I wouldn‘t be breaking down in front of my family. 😚 So far it‘s been good.
I would totally stay in a Hitchcock themed hotel so I was excited for this book! I was hoping this would have been a little more creepy but mostly it was just drama between old college roommates. What made this a pick was there were a few good twists that I did not see coming. I was hoping there would have been a Norman Bates like shower scene 🔪 but no luck! 😛
I loved this book. Alfred buys an old Victorian manor and turns it into the Hitchcock Hotel and invites his estranged college friends for the weekend. He has plans, and they all have secrets 🖤

I mean how could you miss with this idea? You have all the wonderful Hitchcock thrillers for inspiration. And yet this is one hell of a miss. Six of the most awful “friends” arrive at a Hitchcock themed hotel for a weekend each with secrets so banal I couldn‘t care less about what happened to any of them. Tried way too hard (clumsily btw) clinging to the coattails of a genius filmmaker and his genius wife and fails miserably.
I really like the Hitchcock theme and references in this one, but the characters were rather unlikeable. I always enjoy her writing though!
