Unremarkable story. Reminded me why I am wary of YA contemporary. Didn't hate it didn't like it, it was meh! I wudn't hv missed much if I hadn't read it.

2/5 - I have to be honest - I didn‘t really enjoy this one! I have to give props that I was able to finish it in only one day, but that‘s about it. I disliked the characters, I disliked the plot, and I really disliked the ending. Ugh, I‘m moody about it, but I think it‘s because I really liked The Breakdown (by the same author), but this was just ughhhhhh. Not for me.

Wasn't the biggest fan of this one. I was so confused through most of the book I couldn't enjoy it. Didn't really like the characters either (besides Dean, he was interesting), there was no connecting with any of the side characters, they had no story. They were just there.. Had high hopes for this one. Pretty disappointed.

It's hard to describe my feelings on this book, but I think the sudden shift 2/3 through didn't work for me. Fans of Inkheart might like it if they're looking for something along those lines, but "darker and edgier." Can't give it a strong recommendation though. #thehazelwood #2stars #bookreview

I really wanted to love State of Sorrow. I adore Melinda‘s Sin Eater‘s Daughter series and was super excited about this one. It was just found this one so slow going and I was bored for the most part. I did like the storyline but it was very political and I‘m not a big politics lover. ⭐️⭐️-So I read this book last month. To be completely honest my expectations were no where near met. I wanted so much more from this book but instead got an awful main character a rushed ending and nothing that really intrigued me by the story. One of the most overrated books I have read. The story didn't pick up until halfway through. Even in the last few pages, where all is revealed, I struggled to keep my eyes open.
I'm so glad I finally finished reading it! Now I can look for something more interesting to read.
