Is It Just Me?
Is It Just Me? | Miranda Hart
Well hello to you dear browser. Now I have your attention it would be rude if I didn't tell you a little about my literary feast. So, here is the thing: is it just me or does anyone else find that adulthood offers no refuge from the unexpected horrors, peculiar lack of physical coordination and sometimes unexplained nudity, that accompanied childhood and adolescence? Does everybody struggle with the hazards that accompany, say, sitting elegantly on a bar stool; using chopsticks; pretending to understand the bank crisis; pedicures - surely it's plain wrong for a stranger to fondle your feet? Or is it just me? I am proud to say I have a wealth of awkward experiences - from school days to life as an office temp - and here I offer my 18-year-old self (and I hope you too dear reader) some much needed caution and guidance on how to navigate life's rocky path. Because frankly where is the manual? The much needed manual to life. Well, fret not, for this is my attempt at one and let's call it, because it's fun, a Miran-ual. I thank you.

Mehso-so

A humorous look at the life of Miranda Hart from the subject herself, covering everything from Christmas with the family, to beach holidays, to dating. I couldn't help but be reminded of some of my own youthful experiences as a tall girl & culturally we seem to be of a similar period. Like her sitcom, I found that the book began to wear out its welcome rather quickly as, for me, Miranda is rather too daft to laugh at at times. 3⭐

I read this every time I need a pick-me-up. It always makes me smile no matter how many times I read it. I do myself agreeing with her a lot too. The comedy found in everyday real life is expressed beautifully in this. Definitely a read if you need to smile :)

Listened on audible with Miranda narrating, don‘t think it would‘ve worked with anyone else narrating it ... loved every second of it ... Such Fun!

From the peerless @kaye : 200 great comments & going!

Does anyone else notice that participation'ss down in Litsy? Before, I‘d be gone for an hour and come home and have a ton of posts to catch up on. Now, there might be only a handful, even all night long when others would normally post. It seems that the enthusiasm in here from some of the older posters is gone. Where's the daily question... we've lots of days of nothing. Anybody else notice ?

Victoriahoperose I‘ve noticed a lot more, but anyone who follows me, I usually follow back unless I somehow miss it and I try to keep up with the new people on the Litsy Welcome Wagon. That seems to keep a lot of variety in posts and meeting new friends! 6y
SassyBookworm I have also noticed this. Kinda sad 😔 but I haven‘t been posting as much bc I‘m so busy lately. Wonder what we could do to boost post and Litten communication 🤔 6y
Pruzy I definitely agree! I found when there were a ton of daily book challenges Litsy activity was through the roof! Where have they all gone?? 6y

athorne Coming back, I‘m seeing it too. 6y
Marilyncjackson I think it is because the time of year. People are really busy and not too tired to post lol. I haven‘t gotten to read much over the months of November and December so I haven‘t posted a lot. I am trying to post more as I get back into reading. Hopefully it will start picking up again soon 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker I‘ve noticed that too. When I check my litsy I usually only have a handful of new updates and normally I would have to scroll forever to see every new post. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Pruzy I used to host but it is a lot of work but there was a time there was just sooo many. 6y
MirrorMask I've noticed this as well. I started Litsy last May and I remember there being a prompt for every weekday. Hopefully all is well and they're just too busy. 6y
laur89 This is the the only social media platform I post frequently on! I love all of the book-oriented posts, the overwhelming support for any non-book posts about tough times, and the generosity of those who participate in the swaps. I don‘t read as much as a lot on here but I love scrolling through the feed during the day, and seeing all the recommendations and meaningful quotes! Hoping to see everyone continue to participate in this community 💕 6y
CouronneDhiver I have noticed a slow down of activity around here but I assumed (and hoped) it was seasonal. I love it here and recommend it often. 🤞🏽 6y
prowlix I fully admit that I used to post almost daily and now it‘s just a few times a month. I changed jobs but I‘m trying to get back. I 💗 Litsy and littens 6y
Bookgoil Funny I‘m more active this year already than last year due to all the challenges. 6y
RebL Like @laur89, I‘m scrolling and liking and commenting, but usually I don‘t post as often. And I like the vibe too. Like @Bookgoil, I‘m more active lately, but unlike her it‘s due to ditching Facebook. It does seem like I don‘t have to scroll as far to catch up, but I sorta wondered if that‘s because I‘m here more. 6y
RebL Looking through the comments on the original feed is educational, but much of it feels like talk for power users & stakeholders. I‘ve been here since early on, but I‘m not much of a swaper nor do I get into memes. However, I like the idea of trying to recruit more authors & get a wider range of Littens. 6y
Sharpeipup I‘ve noticed a decline as well but has chalked it up to a technical glitch as I don‘t seem to be following all the same people anymore... 6y
OrangeMooseReads I‘ve noticed it. I feel like a lot of people got tired of the tech issues with the LT changeover and that has translated into less participation. I know for myself I go in spurts with posting a lot and then barely posting. I‘ve noticed too that comment conversation haven‘t been as easy anymore either. 6y
julesG RE: photo challenges. I love challenges, even if I don't participate all the time. I miss the broad spectrum, but also understand that hosting takes time and effort. Also, some people complained about there being too many challenges that clogged up their feeds. Again, a case of you can't cater to everyone's needs, but the decline might be due to the complaints, too. 6y
rubyslippersreads I still ❤️ Litsy as much as ever, but lately real life has gotten in the way. Like @RebL @laur89 and others, I‘m liking and commenting, but not getting time to post as much. 6y
Lauram I haven‘t noticed a decline and find that I struggle to keep up with postings because I like to read them all, even if I don‘t comment. I‘ve been around for a bit and am happy to keep things going in some fashion. What sorts of book challenges or daily activities are no longer being done? I‘m happy to contribute more to this supportive community. (edited) 6y

Am I the only one who gets logged out of Litsy every so often? All of a sudden it stops working and then it just logs me out! Not cool, Litsy. Not cool ☹🤬

TheWordJar I‘m not sure I‘ve ever been logged out. Now that I think about, I‘m not sure what my password is either! 😐 6y
julesG Try to take a screenshot if it happens again and contact Litsy. Also, if there is an error code, try to catch it. (small dark "pop up" like box at the bottom of your screen, the error code is the last bit in all the text. I'm tagging @kgriffith who works at LT and has been a great help in the past. 6y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I don't get logged out, but I get booted out. 6y
See All 10 Comments
BethM I've been logged out a handful of times over the last 3-4 months. 6y
JoRead @BethM well, at least is not just me ☺ 6y
JoRead @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego it's just so strange when it happens 🤷‍♀️ 6y
JoRead @TheWordJar every time it happens I panic because I'm afraid I'm not going to remember the password! 😟😅 6y
JoRead @julesG I'll keep an eye out for that, thanks for the tip 6y
kgriffith Yes, you can email litsy@LibraryThing.com with any support questions. I can tell you from personal knowledge that if you‘ve signed up for an account with a website or app through Facebook, getting logged out is often due to behind the scenes updates on Facebook and nothing to do with the app you‘re using. 6y
JoRead @kgriffith signed up directly so that's not the issue. I'll keep that email handy for next time it happens 👍 6y

#hittheroad for the #24in48 while doing my errands today. Using my driving time wisely! I suggest memoirs for audiobooks on the road. The best are read by the authors. My favorite this year are My Lucky Life in and Out of Show Business by Dick Van Dyke, Not Dead Yet by Phil Collins and today's selection Is It Just Me? By Miranda Hart. All will keep you alert while driving with unknown (until now) funny anecdotes. Add to your reading!

Re-reading this gem. I have way too many books going at once, but I couldn't resist adding this one to the stack. There's even a chapter on Christmas so it's a legit winter read. Ha! #mirandahart #humor #laughoutloud

EvieBee I own this on Kindle and have yet to read it. I should fix that! I hear she has a sequel coming out. 8y
monandez @EvieBee84 I hadn't heard about the sequel! 😮😃 8y

To Preface, I LOVE Miranda Hart. I love her as a comedian, as an actress and as a person she seems rather genuine...I'm just not a fan of Miranda Hart, Author. It's not hard to get through and it's definitely got a few decent laughs, which is a bit of a plus, but I wish I wouldn't have tainted the omnipotence of Miranda with her book. It's not something I would recommend, unless your a big fan, so I would definitely pass! #MirandaHart

So, there is a moment early in this book where Miranda insists you do a forward roll to startle the person beside you. Let's just say, maybe, that I did it. Let's just say that maybe I destroyed my neck in the process. I did not destroy the physiotherapist, who happily gave me a billl. Should you read it? I don't know, I was in too much pain to finish. Miranda, my husband was not startled, he did not even wake up! I will send you the bill ...

Kirstin 😂😂Ouch! I had a similar experience when I tried to show my daughter how to do a cartwheel. 😱it's not like riding a bike. 8y
EnidBiteEm @Kirstin There should be age warning about these things, "you will not bend like you used to," or something ?? 8y
See All 9 Comments
Kirstin @EnidBiteEm - Yes! At least a "consider stretching first" ? 8y
britt_brooke @EnidBiteEm @Kirstin 😂👏🏻 I already have to go to the chiropractor once a month, lol! 8y
Zelma 😂😂😂 I don't mean to laugh at your pain, but that story is great! (And oh I can relate to not being so bendy. We do the oldster shuffle in the mornings until everything stretches out normally.) 8y
kspenmoll 😟😃 8y
EnidBiteEm @Zelma @kspenmoll Wasn't there a scene in HP and The Cursed Child where someone was described as being middle-aged bc they started to make an audible and involuntary "oomph," when they sat down? Sadly, this me ... I started when I was pregnant with my third child, but she is several months old now and I haven't stopped. "Oomph, oomph, oomph, oomph!" ? 8y
EnidBiteEm @britt_brooke Hooray for chiropractors and physios, let's hope it's not fortnightly, although I've been there too 😯 8y

I LOVE Miranda Hart so was obviously super excited for this read but sadly finished the book slightly disappointed. I heard her voice throughout which I thought was fab, but as a whole I found the book repetitive and the constant conversations with 'Little M' became tedious.
