I didn‘t know what to expect with this book, but it wasn‘t this. It seemed kind of chaotic and there were times when I wasn‘t sure what was going on. No one seemed to be in control of anything that was happening, except possibly Ray and Tatiana, but they were on the fringe. Eventually, we learn everything about everyone, but it doesn‘t really help. It was a bit disappointing. I do like Jackson Brodie, so, onward the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love it when a book is set in a city I know. Edinburgh calls for tea and marmite for lunch ;)

While the plot left a bit to be desired, I do love the characters Atkinson develops. And I finished just under the wire for #TeamSlaughter #scarathlon! My week total was 443 points. Thanks for organizing @Clwojick and @StayCurious . Now on to #NFNovember.

Agree with some of the other reviews that this one took a long old time to get going. Not as good as the first but still a fun, twisty turny, easy read.

Started listening to book 2 in the Jackson Brodie Series, following on from Case Histories. Now moved the story from England to Edinburgh in Scotland. An interesting opening.

Now up to 18 hrs 29 mins in the #24B4 Monday Readathon. Hope to get to 22 hours.

I cheated and started early because I won‘t make it late. I‘ll end early to make up for my #24in48crime! I just finished making 4 dozen cupcakes for my kiddo to practice decorating tomorrow with her friend. While they are decorating, I‘ll be reading. I cannot picture Julia or Jackson. Cottage reading sessions are kinda the best.

Again, this is actually my third time reading this second installment in the Jackson Brodie series but it felt new to me!! I really enjoyed it and would have read it much faster- it does get off to a bit of a slow start- but we were downtown to go to The Rolling Stones concert!! This is my pre-concert drink at our hotel!!

Cor blimey, this was a slow burner!! It took a good 150 pages to get into it. Too many characters as well, it was hard to connect and care about anyone. Meh. 😒

I got my flu shot and TDAP booster this morning, and rewarded myself this afternoon at the bookstore. Never mind the hundreds of unread books I already have at home... My husband is playing a book-inspired video game (Shadow of Mordor) while I read the book selected randomly for me by my daughter. Thanks for the idea, @TrishB ! I‘m looking forward to hanging out with Jackson Brodie again.

Started this as emergency book last night! So far it's a chapter by chapter keep reading sorta book! I quite like Atkinson's books so that's enough to keep going :)

I was just .. not thrilled with this one (second in a series after loving the first) which was disappointing. Everyone was sad and unlikeable, including Jackson Brodie, who was mopey through most of the book, and Julia, who was a sparkling lively character in the first and just a distant flat character in the second. The first one was actually darker in subject matter but this one was somehow more depressing. SO.. should I read the third??

Always fun to choose the latest book to fall into my hands to be next book to read. Those books that have been waiting patiently for me to notice will just have to wait a bit longer. Oscar assisting.

The apartment complex we are moving into has a community bookshelf! I can't wait to share the books I own that I don't know if I'll ever really get to... and while looking I found the second in the Brodie series!!! So, yes, I let it jump into my bag.

Bedtime reading! Liking this one so far...

I wanted to love this book. I was almost immediately engaged but I got lost in the midst of too many characters and too much to remember. Perhaps because no one jumped out and made an impression. Sorry because she is a well respected writer.

This one was ... meh. It took me a while to remember why I wanted to complete this series 😕 Because it took Atkinson a while to get to the good part.

But Atkinson's writing pulled it together, & made it worth it.

One of my resolutions was to catch up/complete 3 series. Today I got One Good Turn; now I can catch up with Jackson Brodie. These will probably be my #24in48 reads next weekend.

A masterfully written book that spirals in and around its main characters right up until the hugely satisfying ending. Pictured: Skaket Beach on Cape Cod, which has nothing to do with this book.

Atkinson's gorgeous style is on full display here, but this book was just so damn grim that I had trouble enjoying it.

I stayed up way too late finishing this! Great book, great series. I at times wasn't sure where it was heading, but Ms. Atkinson didn't let me down.

Fans of her more "literary" stuff ( Life After Life and all that) should definitely not miss out on her Jackson Brodie thrillers of which this is number 2. They're great!
