Saw this on Facebook. Who knows if Dickens actually said this, but I just returned from a walk and I‘ve got to say he‘s spot on.

After reading this book, I feel like I need to go back and revisit the work of Dickens. This was a very informative book and the material presented with little speculation - almost to the point that some of the more unsavory bits of his life and character were glazed over somewhat. It seems scholastically sound in that the author makes clear distinction of what is known and what is not throughout. Highly recommend if you like his work or era.
Best mail day ever! Four used books came in the mail today. As if that weren‘t enough, a colleague from work (I telecommute) sent me yummy, unique whiskey all the way from Duluth, MN. I‘m all set on this glorious autumn evening! 📚 + 🥃 = 😃
Geez, the things you gotta read up on when reading the classics…
This is a new one for me. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
It took me a couple of weeks but I finally finished! About time I understood more about Dickens‘ life having studied his novels a few times. Claire Tomalin does a fantastic job of showing him at his best and his worst, and he had plenty of examples of both - but for the good, he was a prodigious hard worker, under constant pressure to earn money through his writing for his many dependents and the orphans he helped.
You know the feels when you‘ve been WAITING for a hold to come in for so long so you give up and start another book on your kindle, then ALL the holds come in.
I‘ll play myself out with the violins now #drowninginbooks
🌸 I would LOVE to hang out with Charles Dickens!
🌸Honestly, if I‘m Time Traveling, it better be as/with a Time Lord...I wanna see all the things!

Only a 5 minute walk from our hotel to the Charles Dickens Museum. Lovely gift shop!
Just adding this one onto the shelves having just finished it. I did put this one down for four weeks before powering on through to finish it. Claire Tomalin is a brilliant biographer. Her accounts of Dickens' life is very interesting and definitely worth reading. As ever she paints it like a story and her books are very well researched. I would recommend any of her biographies.
Happy Birthday to the great Charles Dickens! What's your favorite work by Dickens?
