pickThis is 2 stories in 1. The first story takes place in 1950s Hollywood, where ambition, envy, seduction, and a whole lot of racism swirl around the making of a blockbuster film. The second story is the Bible story itself that‘s being made into a movie.
Sylvia Moreno-Garcia has been a favorite since her MEXICAN GOTHIC book but this one has won my heart as my favorite Moreno-Garcia read!
pickThis was a very good book! It involves a dual timeline and went back and forth between biblical times and the 1950s. I usually prefer one timeline story over the other; but in this case, I loved them both. Without any spoilers, I can‘t believe the similarities in events that took place in the 2 periods. I did a mix between a physical and audio book. The narrators were wonderful! I highly recommend this book.
pick1950‘s Hollywood striving-to-be movies stars - oh, I‘m all in! 🎥 But if you are looking for a story of women supporting women - this ain‘t it🤪 I liked the snippets of interviews between chapters. I thought the alternating chapters between Nancy and Vera were entertaining. I was less interested in the way-back chapters of Salome but understand its significance to the story.

pickThis book is a masterpiece of storytelling. It is the first from the author that I have enjoyed since Mexican Gothic. She weaves the storylines together seamlessly. This would make a fantastic book club pick. I have so many thoughts.
pickThis wasn‘t my favorite Moreno-Garcia book but her writing and characters are always enjoyable! Lots of perspective shifts in this book and an old Hollywood setting. I don‘t know why but I love a rewritten bible story.

I‘m only 100 pages in and I already recommend this book, like I do all Moreno-Garcia‘s books. AND she drops Hedda Hopper in there, come on!
