A short and shocking haunted house thriller for fans of Stephen King, Black Mirror, and Frankenstein Henry, a brilliant but reclusive engineer, has achieved the crowning discovery of his career: he's created an artificially intelligent consciousness. He names the half-formed robot William. But there's something strange about William. It's not that his skin feels like balloon rubber and is the colour of curdled milk, nor is it his thick gurgling laugh or the way his tongue curls towards his crooked top teeth. It is the way he looks at Henry's wife, Lily. Henry created William but he is starting to lose control of him. As William's fixation with Lily grows and threatens to bring harm to their house, Henry has no choice but to destroy William. But William isn't gone. Filled with jealousy for humanity, for its capacity to love and create life, William starts to haunt the house. He lurks behind each locked door. You can hear him muttering in the eaves of the attic. He is whispering in Henry's head. And he will be the one to take control. . . An up-all-night thriller that splices psychological horror with a locked room mystery, William is a new kind of ghost story, where the haunting is not from another world, but one that is in our own.

Read in 1 day! Quick, tense, techie, and manages to work in some very interesting and thought provoking relationship ponderings. Really enjoyed this and so nice to read a book so quickly again! 🙌🏼

And with that, I‘m halfway done with #tenbeforetheend #10beforetheend 😅

I was finally able to fill one of the more difficult #52bookclub categories, “Author debut in second half of 2024.“ I've read a number of novels by Andrew Pyper, but this is his debut under the pseudonym Mason Coile.

This short novel is a spooky haunted house story featuring AI “monsters“. I didn't enjoy it as much as the other Pyper works I've read, but as it was set on Hallowe'en day, it was a good one to read this week.

Book 86📚 4.3⭐️

Cyber horror! This one was so cool and I did NOT see the twist coming. There was an audible shock 😂

Very short chapters so I breezed through it in under a day!

Henry is an agoraphobic robot engineer who is working on an AI robot, William, in his home lab. What could go wrong?

🎃🎃1/2 This was a big just ok book for me. The ending made it all worth it, however the journey getting there was unremarkable. Very little character development, lots of bumbling around waiting time. Started out strong, good premise, poorly executed. Overall it‘s fine because it‘s thankfully short.
