A pick because I was engaged and wanted to know what was going on. This became apparent half way through! Could have cut first half by 100 pages or so. Really stretched the plot.
Great last 25% and a whopping cliff hanger.

At first I was a bit … um, I guess, underwhelmed would be the word. It felt like just more of the same (but not in a good way) and I was just going through the motions. But then suddenly it began moving like a freight train and I was hanging on for dear life and hurtling over the finish line. And I was like, damn, Louise. You got me again. I can‘t quit you, Gamache or Three Pines. I‘m in for the long haul. ❤️
Finished at 12:05am so crossover between last book of 2024/first book 2025. I enjoyed it! As a Canadian, I loved all the references to our government and found the threat they are trying to neutralize to be truly scary. I enjoyed the fast pace and location hopping. My only note is that this book draws heavy references from an earlier book in the series, and I feel like the experience may have been richer if I had reread that one first.
It may have been my mood or timing- I was sick.I listened to this in mid Dec.,finishing it on the day before Xmas. But for the first time in the series, the book felt like a So-So. it was generally about who can you trust, things are not what they seem, terrorism. The plot was convoluted, meandering, drawn out.It ended with a cliffhanger. Maybe the next book will make me feel differently- of course I‘ll read it. The new narrator was great though.
Pre-dinner libation,cheese& rice crackers & a book. 🍷🧀📘
It was just a pick. I read a review on Goodreads that said this series has lost its charm, and I think that‘s a pretty spot on analysis. While I appreciated the humour in this one, I did not appreciate the repetition and the long and weak drawn out plot. 😕
I love Inspector Gamache and am here for every book with Pom-poms waving. However, this will not be for everyone.
This was close to being a “so-so“. The plot was convoluted and barely plausible, and I would have liked to spend more time in Three Pines, but it was still a page-turner with a big finish.
I also liked the new French Canadian audiobook narrator. The previous narrators were great (arguably better) but the mispronounced words made me cringe.

I started the latest book in one of my favourite series. The Inspector Gamache series is set in a fictional town but the general area is close to where I grew up and not far from an excellent Quebec brewery, Unibroue.

Finally finished an absolutely all consuming work project that‘s consumed my life for the better part of the last 6-8 months. I have saved my new Louise Penny to settle down with, calm my mind, cozy up to and enjoy as we barrel into the last month of 2024 😮
The story lines in these later books are kind of off the wall, but I still love every minute of them. This one didn‘t have as much Three Pines action as I like, but I did love revisiting some of the monks from A Beautiful Mystery. Sounds like a new one is already in the works.🌲🌲🌲
A solid mystery and characters we already love. Not her best, and a cliffhanger ending which was a bit frustrating. But still a solid Gamache story.
I‘ll never grow tired of Three Pines. Not my favorite in the series, but still good. This one focused on domestic terrorism and monks. I always wish for more time in the village for the books that include a lot of travel. I love the way Gamache‘s mind works. I loved learning more about the history of his relationship with his son.
I highly recommend “The Grey Wolf“ to fans of mysteries, thrillers, and character-driven stories. It's a captivating read that will stay with you long after you finish the last page.

I always love re-visiting this series. This one was focused on domestic terrorism and how Gamache and his team can stop them. I feel like I‘m visiting with friends when I read these books. Can‘t wait for the next one.
Book 70 of 2024
I finished in two nights. Now I have to wait until 2025 for the next one! Spending time in Three Pines is calming, which I needed. More under spoiler tag to protect the innocent. 😀
I need Gamache tonight. And yes, I‘m eating my feelings.
If the US election goes the wrong way, I am moving to Three Pines! This audiobook just jumped to the top of my to-listen list! #audiobooks #gamache
I was just going to my local indie bookstore to order some Christmas gifts and gossip with the bookseller about some drama with another store in the shopping center… Then I saw the new Louise Penny book sitting on top of a box. I mentioned I was already stalking Libby to see where I was on the hold list, but she made another suggestion. It was “damaged” (a tiny tear in the dust cover), so she sold it to me at a discount. Look at these end papers!
Listening to interview/webinar with Louise Penny & Will Schwalbe sponsored by B & N. Such fun! 🤩
Having caught up on the remaining books in the series it was time to read the digital ARC (thank you Edelweiss+) of this one. The plot in this book takes us back to the monastery from “The Beautiful Mystery“, to Grenoble France where they make Chartreuse liqueur and to northern Quebec. While I would have loved to spend even more time in Three Pines, I thoroughly enjoyed the action in this one and liked that included more of Amelia Choquet. 4.5/5!
