The Twelve Days of Murder

Find the truth. Solve the murder. Never reveal your secret. Twelve years ago, eight friends ran an exclusive group at university: The Murder Masquerade Society. The mysteries they solved may have been grisly, but they were always fictional - until their final Christmas puzzle, when one of the group disappeared, never to be seen again. Now, the remaining members receive an invitation to a reunion masquerade, to be held in a beautiful and remote country house in Scotland. The game begins, and it feels just like old times. Until the next morning, when Lady Partridge is found hanging from a pear tree. It quickly becomes clear that in this game, the murder will be all too real, and the story is bringing long-hidden secrets to the surface. If they hope to survive the festive season then they will need to face the truth about what happened on that fateful night twelve years ago.

With elements of Agatha Christie‘s And Then There Were None…a group of college friends get together over Christmas in an isolated manor. Cue a blizzard and a murderer on the loose.

This kept my interest and had enough suspects and red herrings to have me keep second guessing the final reveal. None of the characters were really likable, except maybe Charly, and there are some pretty gruesome scenes.

Hooked_on_books I‘ll have to keep this one in mind! I actually love a locked room mystery where everyone is unlikeable. I think it works really well! 10mo
BarbaraBB I have to remember this too for the same reason @Hooked_on_books does. 10mo

Last book of 2023! I enjoyed this trapped in a manor murder mystery. I thought the ending was a bit of a cop out but overall it was enjoyable

This month I've been busy reading and reviewing Festive Murder Mysteries... want to know which one I liked best? I've made a video!

https://youtu.be/DSCyg65q4ug?feature=shared

Pickles gets involved too! 😁 #picklescat

Have had a great time reading these and getting Christmassy 🎅🏻🎄🎁

thegreensofa Great video! I loved the format you did, pickles cameos are adorable, and I am persuaded to read Peter Swanson‘s The Christmas Guest now. Brilliant! 🎄😁 11mo
Caroline2 Just watched your video! So many beautiful covers!!! ❤️ 11mo
DaveGreen7777 I loved the festive Pickles cameo! 😺 (Well, as festive as Pickles ever gets, anyways! 😹) 11mo

RaeLovesToRead @thegreensofa Aww, thank you so much! 🥰 Hope you enjoy The Christmas Guest... tag me if you review it! 🎄 11mo
RaeLovesToRead @Caroline2 Thanks for watching! 😁 The Holly House cover was probably my favourite. But that's because I'm a total sucker for spredges! 11mo
RaeLovesToRead @DaveGreen7777 @dabbe Pretty sure Pickles disapproves of Xmas full stop... it's cold and new items get added to the front room. Although she does like the turkey! 😋 11mo
Susanita I shared that with my mystery book club. :) 11mo

Stayed up all night finishing this festive thriller.

I was getting major Lucy Foley vibes. A group of "friends" meet up 8 years after the disappearance of one of their club. A bloodbath ensues!

This was fab, and I needed to know how it unravelled. There was only one thing (that I can't discuss because Spoilers) that for me didn't hold up to scrutiny, but actually the whole plot was pretty batsh*t ?

Loved it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This makes for a great holiday read when you‘re looking for a story set at Christmas with a murder mystery to solve. At university, a group of friends created the Masquerade Murder Society. Their final Christmas Masquerade took place 12 years ago when one member of their group disappeared. The Society comes together for another Christmas-themed party - the Twelve Days of Christmas.

This one is more festive than Holly House so far. They're even eating Quality Street while being interrogated 😄

batsy Oh, nice! Sounds like one to keep in mind for next year. (What's the sweet treat that you're having? 😁🕵🏾‍♀️) 11mo

This is my 2nd book of both #WinterGames and of the #20in4 #Readathon #CandyCaneCrushers. I finished it last night. I didn't like any of the characters, and while that might have been the point, it wasn't fun in the “Knives Out“ sort of way that I was hoping for. Also, I had difficulty keeping track of everyone and it probably would've been easier to do that had I read the book in print instead of audio.

The setting at this remote, snowbound Scottish estate is right out of Agatha Christie and the Golden Age country house murder mysteries. Cordani is great at setting the scene and using narrative description to build tension.

I‘m on a Christmas murder mystery binge right now and this one is definitely recommended! Full review at https://itsallaboutthebook.org

A group of friends from university days are invited to a Christmas Masquerade murder mystery break at a remote hunting lodge. At the last one, the 'victim' disappeared from a locked room & was never seen again. This time it is based around the song 'Twelve Days of Christmas', i.e. Lord Leapworth. As the game begins, past secrets are revealed & friendships are strained until on Christmas morning, Lady Partridge is found hanging from a pear tree.

OutsmartYourShelf The present narrative is told from the point of view of Charley, the outsider in the group of friends. Charley came from a working class background whilst all the others were from rich families & she was treated rather badly by most of the group. Even in the Christmas Masquerade she is playing 'Miss Colly', the only servant in the game & her costumes are dull & boring. 13mo
OutsmartYourShelf The reader gets some background from chapters set twelve years ago one from each of the friend group & as their secrets are gradually revealed you see that none of them are particularly nice people . I did actually guess the guilty party but not the whole reason. I thought it was a diverting, entertaining read & if you like 'locked room' murder mysteries I would recommend this one. 4🌟

OutsmartYourShelf My thanks to #NetGalley & publisher, Bonnier Books/Zaffre, for the opportunity to read an ARC.
