The Great Gatsby: A Graphic Novel
The Great Gatsby: A Graphic Novel | F. Scott Fitzgerald
14 posts | 10 read | 12 to read
The enduring tale of passion, class struggle, and the American dream is now in a colorful graphic novel format. In this colorful graphic adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgeralds classic novel, readers are drawn into a tale rich with the universal themes of passion, class struggle, and the pursuit of the American dream. At the height of the Jazz Age in the 1920s, the young millionaire Jay Gatsby hosts extravagant parties at his Long Island mansion, but his true persona is an enigma to even his next-door neighbor Nick Carraway. Illustrator Pete Katzs stunning scenes capture all the glamour and heartache of Gatsbys life in brilliant detail, introducing a new generation of readers to Fitzgeralds masterpiece.

I remember loving The Great Gatsby in high school and often tell people it was one of my favorite school reads. However, reading this adaptation makes me want to reread the original. Maybe my adult prospective changes this but I remember loving the drama of all the love triangles but this time round it felt too icky. 🤷

ChaoticMissAdventures Isn't it interesting how your view on a story can change with age? I love it, rereading and finding a book completely different after some life experiences. 10mo

I appreciated this graphic adaptation of one of my favorite novels. Reading this on the longest day of the year might become a tradition for me. Next year I‘ll have to get some champagne.

SusanLee Nice! I didn‘t know there‘s a graphic novel! 2y
wisherwishinguponastar The art looks so beautiful! I might need to look in to that! 2y
Chrissyreadit Hi Jill! I‘m waiting for a special order for your spookysummer package. I thought it would arrive by yesterday. It says it will arrive tomorrow- if it doesn‘t I will mail your package and send it when it does arrive. Sorry- I hate cutting it this close. 2y
Bookwormjillk @Chrissyreadit no worries! I signed up for a bunch of swaps that all have Jul 1 open dates. 2y

I‘ve been waiting months to read this graphic novel today!

DisneyFan Stacked it. Let us know what you think. Also have you read the original ? 2y
EvieBee Oooh. That‘s an excellent prompt! I‘ll have to pull mine off the shelf too. 2y
Bookwormjillk @DisneyFan yes, it‘s a favorite of mine. I‘ve probably read it 5-6 times. This is my first read of the graphic novel though. 2y
DisneyFan Ooh please let us know what you think if graphic novel. I‘ve read a few graphic novel adaptations of classics and I feel like they always cut out too much from original for me to like the graphic novel. I understand why it happens, but I‘m same way with movie adaptations for the most part too. 2y
Bookwormjillk @DisneyFan I liked it but was thinking it might not make sense if you didn‘t know the story. More of a companion than a substitute if that makes sense. 2y

Felt punny this morning and decided on a West Egg sandwich 😜 it‘s too bad I don‘t have googly eyes at the moment because it looks like it‘s sticking it‘s tongue out at me. #foodspiration

Lindy A couple of olive slices, maybe? 😆 3y
MatchlessMarie @Lindy that would have been perfect but I finished off my olives last night lol 3y
Lindy @MatchlessMarie I hope you enjoyed your sightless sandwich. 😊 3y

This is a wonderful version of the classic The Great Gatsby. The illustrations are so perfect and period-true. Of course, the story ends the same way, but reading it in this form was worthwhile. #100YEARS100BOOKS #92 #CLASSICS #TAILSandTALESforADULTS #19 #BookSpinBingo #13 #BFC21 #6

Continuing with my graphic novel Sunday, I just had to grab this when I saw it at the library. I‘ve read the book before and love the 2013 movie version (nobody tops Leo!), and it was so fun reading it in graphic novel form. The illustrations are beautiful, as well as the prose of FSF. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys the original book and/or movies! 5⭐️
