The actress, activist, and once infamous Playboy Playmate reclaims the narrative of her life in a memoir that defies expectation in both content and approach, blending searing prose with snippets of original poetry."The iconic Anderson uses a mixture of poetry and prose to present an impressionistic view of a fascinating life."-BOOKLIST, *starred*In this honest, layered and unforgettable book that alternates between storytelling and her own poetry, Pamela Anderson breaks the mold of the celebrity memoir while taking back the tale that has been crafted about her.Her blond bombshell image was ubiquitous in the 1990s. Discovered in the stands of a football game, she was immediately rocket launched into fame, becoming Playboy's favorite cover girl and an emblem of Hollywood glamour and sexuality. But what happens when you lose grip on your own life--and the image the notoriety machine creates for you is not who you really are?Growing up on Vancouver Island, the daughter of young, wild, and unprepared parents, Pamela Anderson's childhood was not easy, but it allowed her to create her own world--surrounded by nature and imaginary friends. When she overcame her deep shyness and grew into herself, she fell into a life on the cover of magazines, the beaches of Malibu, the sets of movies and talk shows, the arms of rockstars, the coveted scene at the Playboy Mansion. And as her star rose, she found herself tabloid fodder, at the height of an era when paparazzi tactics were bent on capturing a celebrity's most intimate, and sometimes weakest moments. This is when Pamela Anderson lost control of her own narrative, hurt by the media and fearful of the public's perception of who she was...and who she wasn't.Fighting back with a sense of grace, fueled by a love of art and literature, and driven by a devotion to her children and the causes she cares about most, Pamela Anderson has now gone back to the island where she grew up, after a memorable run starring as Roxie in Chicago on Broadway, reclaiming her free spirit but also standing firm as a strong, creative, confident woman.

This was a tough read, but also an inspiring one. Pamela put up with a lot…abuse, media slurs, unscrupulous people & some very outrageous men. Still, she persevered. She found much solace & courage in a variety of spiritual books. I had no idea she was such an avid reader or that she appeared on stage as Roxy in Chicago. Loved the stories about her sons & her empowering posse of friends.
Thanks @catiewithac for the gift of this moving memoir.🤗❤️

⭐️⭐️ okay. So I am finding that regardless if you‘ve lead an interesting life, it can still be boring on paper. Another celebrity memoir that did not have the 💫Paris Hilton💫 sparkle✨ I was bored and not into the poetry.

This was a really interesting memoir. It definitely was very similar to the documentary but got into a little more detail about Pamela‘s life before she met Tommy Lee. With all of the different takes on her past, I found it really interesting to hear about everything in her own voice. Her story is sad in a lot of parts, but also inspiring to learn about how much she overcame in her life to end up strong and reflective about it today.

Audiobook, went by fast. What stood out for me was the men in her life. She seemed to be drawn to the volatile ones repeatedly which seems logical since her father was too. Otherwise it seemed to be honest. But I wanted her to dig deeper. A so-so for me.

Surprisingly good. And I know that I‘m being judgmental with that comment. Stereotypes being what they are. This is a story of abuse, to fame, to more abuse, to contentment. She wouldn‘t have gone where she did without her looks and she doesn‘t deny that. But in the process she learned from the influential people she‘s met. Dabbled in a little poetry. And after a life of excess and public relationships settles down to being a mom. Not a bad story.

Another audiobook, I had watched her Netflix special. I admire how Pamela was able to use her fame (& body) on her terms. She‘s had some interesting experiences & opportunities. I do think that she has lots of trauma that she probably hasn‘t fully processed. After her early rise to fame she was able to write the narrative to her story & her career. My only quip is that she seems like she‘s trying so desperately to prove that she‘s intelligent by

ncsufoxes constantly mentioning books she reads. It feels like she wants so much to be taken seriously & remembered for more than her iconic roles. #bookspin #nonfictionbingo prompt: Just a Girl 12mo

Pamela Anderson is really good at narrating her memoir - I found her surprisingly relatable- I grew up in small town British Columbia -and I remember all the excitement of her rise to fame - being picked out at the football game etc … she seems to have done a lot of work /reading/thought to reach a really good space. Her boys seem grounded and supportive. Very glad I spent the time listening to her story 💚🐉

CoverToCoverGirl I‘m jumping into this one tomorrow! 1y
Dragon Thanks 🙏 @CoverToCoverGirl hope you enjoy it 👍💚🐉 1y

Pamela Anderson is sexpot icon, but when you read this book you realize just how smart she is. She wants you to know that you don‘t have to give up being feminine for feminism. She‘s also a little kooky, which is part of her charm. This book isn‘t as “gossipy” as you might think, so know that going in. There are also no photos, which you would expect in an autobiography. Still an easy read that took me down the internet rabbit hole

BethM I keep seeing good things about this one. 1y

Even though Anderson includes her own poetry, writes evocatively of her youth and gives us a sense of her free spirited personality (with surprises such as a love for reading and gardening) a lot of her memoir felt like a summarizing of key events which gave me the feeling that too much had been left out.

This afternoon‘s rainy day 🎧📖. I‘ve been looking forward to this one since it dropped. Been a fascinated fan of Pam‘s since my teens growing up watching ‘Baywatch‘, ‘Home Improvement‘ & ‘V.I.P.‘

TWs ⚠️⚠️start from early on in the read however, this time, I 1/2 expected them & saw them coming so, was able to stop before & was better prepared for it) heads up though for any potential readers.

CoverToCoverGirl Just came into the store today! I never really followed her career but her Canadian background is a plus and besides my sister lives in Ladysmith. She has run into her a couple of times, spoken with her once at the local post office. Her impression was that she was super friendly and very warm but the other side her reality is that she always has a bodyguard with her even in such a smallish community. I‘m very interested in reading her truth. 1y
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl Even with the ⚠️TWs in the beginning, I‘m very much enjoying it. She has reason for that bodyguard, believe me. I‘d have one too, being her. Her current bodyguard may also be her driver. They fell in love during COVID lockdown & Married, I believe on or close to Christmas, in ‘22. I saw an interview before the ‘23 new year roll in & she looked happy, content & living on generations old family property in Vancouver. 1y

Good. Interesting to see a different side to a well known person. Interspersed with poems that she has written makes for an interesting read as you can be in a paragraph then suddenly interrupted by it so it sometimes adds to it but mainly makes you lose your interest in the story.

3.5/5
If you have watched the documentary about Pam on Netflix, there really isn't much need to read this book; there really isn't anything additional except for Pam's philosophical ideas. If you haven't seen the doc, and you're curious about who Pamela really is, this is worth reading.

Wonderful, but rushed.
I loved getting to know the real Pamela. I feel like we would be great friends!

A 90s icon, loving mother, and a phenomenal activist. Many people have judged her (playmate, party girl, typical blonde, glamour-puss) before giving her a chance. However, she is sensitive, intelligent, patient, spiritual, and extremely kind to animals and children. I hope Pammy receives the love and respect that she deserves.

What. A. Woman.

mcctrish @Ruthiella @Bookwormjillk just to be clear, this isn‘t regular green bin pick up. My city is 20 years behind and still doesn‘t do that. This is every 6 weeks yard waste pick up ( leaves, plant material - not grass cuttings, weeds) we‘ve had one this year so far and it was too early for a lot of my yard waste ( this grass) because I don‘t want to disturb the pollinators 2y
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish oh wow. That‘s a long wait for yard waste! 2y
Ruthiella Well, now we understand why you raced home! Otherwise, 6 more weeks! 2y

I think, perhaps, that giving some of the most objectified women on the planet a voice is one of the most empowering, feminist punches I can imagine. I loved getting to know Pam Anderson, and I felt a kindred spirit in her. I‘m grateful to Pam and all other women who take the time to share themselves, I think it‘s one of the most powerful, connective forces to bring women together, which is the safest and most satisfying place for women to be. 5⭐️

This was really good!

More than a pretty face and body, Anderson's memoir is well-written and poignant.

She tells her story in a straightforward, no apologies way and made me feel like we would be great friends 😄 I love when a celebrity memoir does that.

A self-portrait is mentioned at the end of the audiobook, and I just had to Google it.

Pamela is an artist, a reader, and a thinker.

I'm glad I took the time to listen to her story.

I wanted a consent-driven, sex-positive feminist boss‘s take on all the ‘90s misogyny. Instead she tells readers a hundred times how smart she is (she read Hamlet like every other high schooler) & how easy success was for her. She also reinforces the perception around her terrible taste in men by gushing over Assange. I have empathy & want success/happiness for her, but I kinda wish I hadn‘t read this book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What a wild life! From unexpectedly being discovered, to pop culture icon, to activist, and so on. Pamela recounts all the pivotal points of her life thus far, and calls herself out on bad decisions. There are many, but that‘s human. Unsurprisingly, Kid Rock sounds awful. She‘s a reader and a poet, and surprised me in the most interesting ways.

Cinfhen That‘s so cool that you were at the bookstore for her signing @Dragon !!!! Is she gorgeous? I bet she was super zen - she definitely gave off that vibe in her memoir @swishandflick I feel like an ass for making assumptions based on her looks. Although she did have some outlandish moments - Tommy Land being one of them 🤪 It‘s a really quick listen @JuniperWilde but I found it really compelling. 2y

Anna40 If I hadn‘t read your review, I wouldn‘t have watched the documentary and I‘m glad I did. She‘s charismatic, intelligent and such a cool person. I really want to read her book now. She has been through so much and I hope she finds a successful career on Broadway and in her writing. 💕 2y
Cinfhen Yay @Anna40 !! I‘m planning on checking out her Netflix documentary 😊do her sons or parents appear in the documentary?? Im kind of curious about them!! (edited) 2y
Anna40 Yes! The Netflix series is great. Her sons speak a little, her parents a bit too. Not so much. I‘m mad at how unfairly she was treated and so glad she did the series. It‘s unbelievable that the judges ruled she had no right to privacy and questioned her!!! When the sex tapes were illegally published online without her consent! I fell in love with her wit, passion and charisma. You should watch it, you‘ll enjoy it! Thanks for posting this review. 2y
Cinfhen Ohhh, I‘m totally going to watch but it seems like the audiobook and series covers exactly all the same material @Anna40 2y
Anna40 Ok! Is there any of her poetry in the memoir or did I misunderstand the title? 2y
Cinfhen She does includes snippets of her poetry @Anna40 it‘s sort of free form thinking / I listened to the audio so I‘m not sure how it looks in print form but when Pam recited her verse it was very free style 2y

Pamela Anderson delivers an unflinching look at her rapid rise to fame that so many of us marveled at, while at the same time, showing us the woman that she truly is, freckles and all. I found her strength, intelligence, and spirit to be very relatable, and her poetry throughout the book is wonderfully vivid and emotional. Readers will walk away from the preconceived notions that they have of this sex symbol and really understand the woman she is.

swishandflick Have you seen the accompanying documentary on Netflix? I had a whole new respect for her, I had absolutely no idea what she'd endured and overcome. Plus, I just thought it was so friggin refreshing that she does the whole interview without makeup, just comfy in her house 👏🏽 2y

✔Also…she really loves her sons and animals.
✔Overall, it was entertaining…but nothing earth-shattering…but that‘s okay.

This surprised the heck out of me. It is brief (plus in my book for a celeb memoir) and surprisingly insightful. Are there inside details of her life with Tommy and Playboy? Sure. But the best parts were her reflections on her activism and motherhood. She is very well read, too. 🤯🤯 Definitely more than meets the eye with this one!
