I've been tripping down nostalgia lane lately thanks to ebay. Anyone else remember this duology? I remember the villain was one of the most realistic bad guys I had ever read. At least that's what my teen self thought. I'm hoping to re-read these and see if they hold up to the perspective of my adult self. I really loved these back in the day. So much so I was hoping he would write more in that realm. He didn't.

I usually don't like to speed up an audio book but I needed to this time. The narrator is so slow. 😑

Progress continues on the double knit patronus scarf I'm making for my Largest Child.

The story of Terisa and Geraden began very much like a fable. She was a princess in a high tower. He was a hero come to rescue her. She was the only daughter of wealth and power. He was the seventh son of the lord of the seventh Care. She was beautiful...He was handsome and courageous. She was held prisoner by enchantment. He was a fearless breaker of enchantments. As in all the fables, they were made for each other. #FairytaleLove #LovePrevails

I‘ve used this quote before but it was the first that came to mind for #Hug. Also, I think this series is #underrated! #QuotsyJune19 #30JuneBooks @howjessreads

In Mordant, mirrors don't reflect what's in front of them but instead show other places one can travel to or beings that can be translated out of the glass into reality. When Gerarden's attempt at #translation goes awry & he ends up in one of Terisa's living room mirrors, he's convinced she's an Imager despite her protests that mirrors hold no magic in our world. #QuotsySept18

Today's #CoolBooks prompt made me think of the Mordant's Need duology. Terisa literally does not believe in herself: she worries she's #imaginary & has episodes where she feels herself fading from reality. She surrounds herself with mirrors to try to affirm her own existence. One night she's staring at her reflection, trying to keep a hold on reality, when a man appears inside the mirror. (cont. in comments)

TK-421 Gerarden's from a land where renegade Imagers conjure horrors out of their mirrors to threaten the realm. He was sent to find the champion their auguries foretold but somehow ended up in her mirror instead. He's certain Terisa's an Imager & entreats her to go with him through the mirror into his world. 6y
Guildedearlobe This was one of those rare times where a MC drove me crazy but I absolutely loved the books. 6y
Linsy Creepy! Reminds me of waking up from dreams sometimes, not sure what‘s real. 6y
TK-421 @Guildedearlobe I can't think of another writer who makes me care so much about characters who are deeply flawed and infuriatingly human. I love that many of his characters either overcome their weaknesses or embrace them in order to succeed in ways that more likable, less flawed characters wouldn't dream of. 6y

Terisa rubbed her cheekbone; the blow had startled more than hurt her. Secretly, she wanted him to try to kiss her again. She was as lost as he was, however. The best she could do was to say with mock severity, “Apt Geraden, if you don‘t start calling me Terisa I‘m going to tell Castellan Lebbick that you forced your way into my rooms and tried to knock me unconscious.” I love these two #awkward characters ❤️ #Collision #QuotsyMay18 #QuotsyCatchup

For #MirrorImage, these fascinating books came immediately to mind. I found them almost impossible to put down! They're full of intrigue and are set in a world where mirrors don't reflect what's in front of them but instead show other places one can travel to and beings that can be translated out of the glass into reality. Donaldson's characters are complex--some pitiful, some despicable, some endearing--but all flawed and very human.

"What is your world like? How did you live your life there?” She became more #animated as she spoke, bright with curiosity. “How does it feel, to step through a glass and find everything changed? What do mirrors do in your world, since they have no magic?” #QuotsyFeb18

JulAnna I read this a LONG time ago and I have been considering a re-read. I think your post might be a sign that it is time! 😊 7y

#marchbookstagram how to choose... So much #fantasy read in my 50 years. Night Circus is a recent favorite, love Donaldson's Mordant's Need Duology, Mists has always been a favorite, and the Incarnations of Immortality was the series I first bought hardcovers because I couldn't wait until the paperbacks came out

The guy who wrote the Thomas Covenant books also wrote this. I'm not convinced yet. Giving it a few more chapters.

Of all the books I read this summer, Donaldson's Mordant's Need books were my favourites! #FaveReadsOfAugust #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge
