This is the second book in the duet centered around a ballet school. Bette, June, Gigi are all back and it picks up where book one left off. I have to say I loved this series, the characters and storyline. #balletreads #100bookchallenge #balletthemedreads
2nd in the Tiny Pretty Things Duology, we are back at the American Ballet Conservatory with Gigi, Bette and June following their machinations and scheming as they vie for limited apprenticeships.
I liked June's story, but was a bit annoyed that Bette and Gigi seem to have swapped characters. Plenty of drama, insufficient dancing and not enough comeuppance for the boys.
If you like the books, the Netflix show is also fun.
5-6-21: My 45th finished book of 2021! Book two and the final book of the Tiny Pretty Things series, follows Bette, June and Gigi as they dance their hearts out trying to become apprentices at the American Ballet Company. Amid much backstabbing and truly horrible pranks, the girls dance in Swan Lake, fall in love and learn what true friendship entails. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👍🏼📖#️⃣4️⃣5️⃣ #shinybrokenpieces
I don‘t love ballet stories. The mean-girl drama and competition is just not something I enjoy. #bookspinbingo #readblackauthors
No!!!! I didn‘t want this series to end. I wish there was more than 2 books. I loved the backstabbing that happened throughout the book and how the didn‘t let anyone push them around. They all got even. I wish I could find out more about June, Gigi and Bette. Now just to watch until the Netflix series comes out!
Great finish to this duology about the competition between girls at a ballet school. This book answers a lot of cliffhangers from the first book, partially redeems Bette, and reveals everyone to be pretty terrible at some point in this series. Would love a spin-off focusing on just about anyone!
I gathered such momentum reading the first that I had to go straight into the second, and I'm glad I did. This book has less of the constant cliffhangers & suspense; that said, in some ways, it was more satisfying. The slower pace allows the characters to ask questions like, how do you come back from being broken? I loved pondering esp. w/these characters: all strong, intelligent, talented young women who have been hurt badly in different ways.
I read this one a while ago but am behind on posting. It was just as great as the first one. I am so into these gossip girl meets center stage books. Also thrilled by the read along notes from @jmtrivera
I just finished the first, and legit can't wait for the next. Here goes!
Three ballerinas are fighting to win a once in a lifetime spot at the prestigious American Ballet Company. They will do anything and everything to be the one chosen for this role, even if it means taking the others down. It all comes down to this last dance. Who will make it? And who will lose their dream of dancing in the spotlight forever?
This is quite the page turner, Center Stage meets Pretty Little Liars.
Perfect Sunday ☺️✨📚
What is everyone reading today? I‘m trying to finish Shiny Broken Pieces, while the boyfriend dives into Silkworm.

These girls can really hold a grudge... Wouldn‘t want to be on their bad side.
Work, done ✅ Dinners and dishes, done ✅ Laundry, done ✅
Time to get my read on!!! 📖 ✨
“The higher you rise, the harder you fall”
Moving on to the sequel of Tiny Pretty Things. June, Bette, and Gigi are back and competing one final time for a top spot at the American Ballet Company. The stakes are much higher and no one is playing nice.
May the best dancer win. 💃🏼🕺🏽

This book was so addicting! A much more dramatic edition of Center Stage. If you enjoyed the first book you will definitely enjoy this one. The characters so much growth in this book and you really see a change in them by the end of the story. It‘s much more serious this time around because they are finally fighting for their livelihoods. I couldn‘t put this one down! I really enjoyed it.
So this is what I‘m reading now! And I am really enjoying it. I read the first one last year and it was good. It‘s a look at the lives of ballerinas and all the backstabbing that ensues. It says a lot about friendships, relationship and deceit and also ambition. How far will you go to be the best?
I got to see Dhonielle Clayton at the NoVa Teen Book Festival yesterday! This is my favorite pic I snapped before the second panel! She is absolutely incredible. Grabbed Shiny Broken Pieces while I was there and got it signed. Very excited to read more from her!
I loved this sequel to Tiny Pretty Things. I like how each of the main three girls are continuing to grow and struggle. I like that Bette isn't just a pure evil character. She has a lot of depth. And the relationships are all amazingly deep and we'll explored.
I have no strong opinions about this one, it was interesting while reading but I could go without reading it for days and not feel like I was missing out.
I'm nearing the end of Shiny Broken Pieces and LOVING IT. I had a feeling I'd like it after how great Tiny Pretty Things was, but this is even better than I expected. I love the shift from external conflict between all the dancers to the internal conflict of all these girls facing theirselves and their actions. It's fantastic. I can't wait to see how it ends.
Absolutely loving this book ATM
Ballet, boarding school, fiercely ambitious young women, and a diverse set of characters - this series is basically catnip for me.
Another rainy day in Georgia (will it ever stop?) so a good reading day. Book 2 of the malicious/competitive ballerinas trying to secure a spot at ABC 👍
If you enjoy the first of this duology, you've got to pick this one up. The drama is more intense, and the book moves at a breakneck pace. (I read this one in print to avoid the accent issue.) Warning: drugs, eating disorders, and harassment feature in this book, too.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a great end to the TPT series. I liked that Cassie who was mentioned through tiny pretty things was finally a recurring character in Shiny broken things.
(Oops, forgot to do a review here when I finished this yesterday) I saw a review of this on YouTube, can't recall who, that said the book suffered a bit from just TOO MUCH DRAMA, and I have to agree. It just felt like it was pushing the boundaries of belief by having everyone be so stunningly awful and have endless major problems. I like the social issues exploration, and the writing is sharp, but I think it needed to be dialed down a bit. 3/5 ⭐
Just a slight change of pace from my last book, LOL 😂 #nowreading
I loved this just as much as the first in the series. Serious soapy drama, but so much fun!
When your bookdepository order finally arrives!!!! So excited 😍
For anyone that loved the movie Center Stage as much as I did!
I needed this book to break up my reading slump.
I think I am now reading at least four books at the same time. I needed this one to break up the longer books and give me a feeling of accomplishment when I can finish it quickly.
I loved the first book in this series, but I may have enjoyed this one even more. Set in a cutthroat ballet academy, these YA novels feature a diverse cast of characters focused on succeeding at all costs. Super entertaining and fun!
I didn't mean to listen to the entire audio book today buuut it happened anyway.
I love the depth of these characters!
Here's my #novembertbr stack. (Minus SWING TIME, HERE COMES THE SUN, and THE LEAVERS.) I'm not sure if I'll get through everything, but I'll have fun trying!
Help! I don't know which book to read next. Suggestions?
I liked the first book in this series a little better, but still really enjoyed this one. It was interesting to read about how the girls change after the last book.
Yessssss. All the drama, all the dancing. Perfect poolside or vacation read, and don't miss the first book (Tiny Pretty Things).

This series is so reminiscent of Center Stage for me and I love it. I hope to see more now that the girls are older.
Full of blackmail, drama, and deep, dark, twisty secrets. The competition is fierce, and with only two apprenticeships on offer it is about to go to a whole new level. Very much of a piece with Tiny Pretty Things, but with even higher stakes. Lives and careers are on the line. Full review: goo.gl/wk067H

Oh how I missed Bette, Gigi and the crew!
