In this propulsive locked-room thriller debut, a reunion weekend in the French Alps turns deadly when five friends discover that someone has deliberately stranded them at their remote mountaintop resort during a snowstorm. When Milla accepts an off-season invitation to Le Rocher, a cozy ski resort in the French Alps, she's expecting an intimate weekend of catching up with four old friends. It might have been a decade since she saw them last, but she's never forgotten the bond they forged on this very mountain during a winter spent fiercely training for an elite snowboarding competition. Yet no sooner do Milla and the others arrive for the reunion than they realize something is horribly wrong. The resort is deserted. The cable cars that delivered them to the mountaintop have stopped working. Their cell phones--missing. And inside the hotel, detailed instructions await them: an icebreaker game, designed to draw out their secrets. A game meant to remind them of Saskia, the enigmatic sixth member of their group, who vanished the morning of the competition years before and has long been presumed dead. Stranded in the resort, Milla's not sure what's worse: the increasingly sinister things happening around her or the looming snowstorm that's making escape even more impossible. All she knows is that there's no one on the mountain she can trust. Because someone has gathered them there to find out the truth about Saskia...someone who will stop at nothing to get answers. And if Milla's not careful, she could be the next to disappear...

This book is perfect for this cold weather we have here in Finland.

The snowboarding aspect of this book was really interesting. Short chapters that ended in cliffhangers were an easy way to keep me reading. I so wanted to know what will happen next. The characters are not very likable, but that goes with the teope, obviouslu. The ending was a surprise and also slightly unconvincing. A good read anyway.

This kept me hooked from start to finish. I found some parts to be a little bit predictable, but overall I didn‘t fully expect the end. I loved the snowy setting and the friends who are in competition with each other who will do anything to win. The way it ended was perfect, in my opinion and I definitely wasn‘t ready for it to be over. Definitely a pick for me!

An atmospheric and slightly creepy tale of 5 old friends who have all been keeping secrets for the last 10 years. A few twists and turns along the way, the odd red herring or two and a satisfying conclusion. No great AH HA! Moments but a good read despite that.

I think the subtitle resume very well the plot of this thriller without spoiling anything. It started as a reunion of five of seven “friends”?. But then, the reunion ended with murder. Why are they going to meet again after 10 years? Where? What happened with those two other friends. It was good but some situations were odd, maybe unbelievable, predictable, there were red flags in the first pages. Those characters were terrible human beings 3.4⭐️

So glad I finally managed to read Shiver. Despite being seasonally mismatched, it‘s the perfect summer thriller. Reynolds strikes the balance between over and under contextualising her mystery, there‘s just enough snowboarding/mountain content to make this narrative unique, but not so much that it disengages a reader who isn‘t familiar with the sport. Shiver kept me guessing for almost the whole novel, and the ending didn‘t disappoint.

This is a good gripping thriller set in the French Alps. Five friends return to where they were snowboarding in competitions. They were invited by one of the group, but who? They haven't seen each other in 10 years since the disappearance of Saskia. There are two timelines, present day and the story of their snowboarding times. Apart from finding some of the girls rather annoying I very much liked this book.

Overall it was OK, not very dynamic or original. The narrative being from Millas perspective was quite irritating and I felt there was too much 'ski stuff' in there. I'm not a skier and I'm not overly interested, so there was too much technical in there for me. The only suspense was towards the end but even then it was more of a fizzle.

Lacks suspense.... At the point where I'm just reading to see what happened to Saskia. Not overly enjoying the plot as it's all been done before, definitely something I can see being turned into a low budget horror movie, meh 🙄

Take a remote setting, add plenty of secrets, and trap a group of people with someone who wants revenge and you have the recipe for success! This suspenseful story took me on a sleighride to thriller land! Plenty of atmosphere and a cast of characters who all had something to hide kept me glued to this book until the end - best of all, it kept me guessing! Hard to believe it's a debut!

Set up was promising. Too many snowboarding sports details that seemed like “I researched all these facts, so I must use them all in my book.” Unlikeable characters. The last minute held what could‘ve been a fabulous plot reveal, but impact got diminished by author over-explaining that character‘s unrealistic flaws. Pacing and audiobook narration were solid. I definitely wanted to find out what happened. Overall, a “meh” rating for me.

This book was entertaining, and definitely easy to keep turning pages to figure out what happened. There was lots of drama/mind games/back stabbing going on, and a lot of well explained snowboarding info.

But sometimes the level of dramatic cliffhanger one liners didn‘t matched up with the reveal. A few times the narrator makes a vague claim like “I can never tell him what I did” and soon after she‘s ready to tell, and it‘s not that big a deal

Allie Reynolds did a great job on this debut! This story was fun & fast paced with short chapters that I flew through! The atmosphere was great & added to the story. The dual timelines created suspenseful moments that carried from one chapter to the next. My only complaint was that the MC continued to make really dumbass choices over & over. Although I found her to be annoying the rest of the characters & the story made up for it. Solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Starting this audiobook. As a fan of And Then There Were None, listening to the opening chapters has me drawing parallels and making predictions. Mind started to wander with the descriptions about snow boarding. I could care less about sports, so I‘m hoping we get to murders and mayhem soon!

Wow. This was an incredibly well written book. Can hardly believe this is Allie‘s debut novel. The plot of the story, going l and forth from past and present, aids in the delivery of the mystery so well. I got caught up in which time periods mystery I was trying to solve. The end result had me reeling. Like WOWZA. The end motive felt a little odd and sudden, but looking back worked out. The life as a professional snowboarder is real rough.

After being lost in the mail center for almost 2 weeks... it‘s arrived!! Granted I expect it‘ll have a different feel now that the snow is gone and this is a snow mystery. I‘m hearing a lot of good things about it though, so I‘m excited. Mystery is still a new genre to me (only Christie so far) so we‘ll have to see this author does it. Heard the resolution was unexpected, and it was expected. Many mixed feels, but always a good story. #ouabc

This was very atmospheric. I felt the cold and the increasing eerieness and the suspicion all the characters felt towards the other's. I liked flipping back and forth between the present and the past, and the slow reveal that they all had reason to feel guilty. I loved to hate Saskia and couldn't wait to discover her fate. I liked Milla but couldn't warm to her as her personality and instincts are so opposite to my own. I can see ⬇️

bookandbedandtea That an elite athlete might need such a personality. I really felt for Brent and felt that if Milla was going to feel guilty it should be for the way she treated him. 4y

Bk9 of March is done. I really enjoyed this “locked room” style thriller set on a glacier in the French Alps, surprisingly so. The first few chapters were a bit shaky from this debut author, but it picked up & became much better. The twist at the end was a complete surprise!
