In this charming mystery series set in an ice cream shop, no case is too cold to crack! Bronwyn Crewse is delighted that Crewse Creamery, the ice cream shop her family has owned for decades, is restored to its former glory and serving sweet frozen treats to happy customers in the picturesque small town of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. But when a big city developer comes to town intent on building a mall, a killer with a frozen heart takes him out. After literally stumbling across the body, one of Wins closest friends becomes the prime suspect, and to make things worse, Wins aunt has come to town with the intention of taking command of Crewse Creamery. Even though Win has a rocky road ahead to help her friend and keep her ice cream shop, it'll take more than a sprinkle of murder to stop her from solving the crime and saving the day.

My reading and audio listening leading in Christmas has been enjoyable.

The tagged charmed me with references to mystery shows (loved Queens of Mystery!) and to interesting history like The Highwaymen, a traveling group of African American painters in Florida, back in the 1950‘s. Even when a story has a few bumps, little gems can still charm me and smooth out any rough edges.

I had a lot of fun with Abby Collette‘s first ice cream parlour mystery, but this one felt choppy and random. At first, it struck me as something that‘d land better for me on screen than on page, but the randomness eventually ramped up so high I‘m not sure even the film treatment would‘ve worked for me.

I‘ll read Collette‘s next book as a tie breaker, but I‘ll start it with plenty of trepidation.

Laughterhp I had the same exact response to this one. 3y
xicanti @Laughterhp I feel like she was trying to play up how awkward it‘d actually be for random civilians to investigate murders, but it came out muddled instead of funny or insightful. 3y

It‘s a good day for savoury porridge and a cozy mystery, with ice cream to follow this evening. Can‘t read a book about an ice cream shop without eating some.

I didn‘t like this one as much as the first book. It seemed like she was trying to cram too much into the book. There was too much focus on the family drama and then it all just went away and I thought it was weird the book ended by you discovering the killer. Also, in the beginning, her friend was acting like a nut and it took her way too long to find it odd.

I think I‘ll read the next one, but I won‘t rush to get it.

🤨🤨🤨 What‘s going on here? Why did 3 of audiobook holds come in at the same time?

The Boston public library only lets you take books out for 14 days. No way I can listen to these 3 that quickly!

Which should I listen to first?

DivineDiana I hear you! Now that I use Libby, it has become a game of strategy! 😅 3y
Clwojick I use CloudLibrary, and they tend to do the same thing. 3y
Leftcoastzen 3 holds came in all at once to me too !When you pick the new ones , they all seem to get processed at the same time .1 of my 3 can be renewed, yay! 3y

ImperfectCJ Do you have the option to delay delivery but maintain your place in line? I had BPL for a long time but lost it (moved) before that feature was unveiled on Litsy, not sure if all libraries do it or just the ones I use now. 3y
ImperfectCJ *Libby, not Litsy. 3y
Laughterhp @ImperfectCJ Yes, I delayed one and borrowed the other 2. They‘re both only 10 hours, so I figured I can get them both done in 2 weeks! 3y
NovelGirl82 That happens to me all the time! 3y
vlwelser The BPL server was down for nearly a week. This happened to me too. I basically snoozed everything. 3y
Laughterhp @vlwelser Oh! So maybe that‘s why they all came in at once! 3y
vlwelser I would assume so. Plus probably everyone returned a bunch of stuff all at once. 3y
Hooked_on_books A couple weeks ago, I had 5 come in on the same day. 😂 It‘s like the libraries are messing with us! 3y
Laughterhp @Hooked_on_books Wow! That‘s a lot to come in at once! It‘s like the libraries want us to stop putting so much on hold 🤣 3y

Is there a genre for racism fiction? Where racism is the key aspect of the story? The tagged book deals with gentrification. Alyssa Coles latest thriller "When No one is Looking" also deals with gentrification and racism

Does this seem likely a new genre that is coming forward? I welcome thoughts on this.

ncsufoxes Such a Fun Age, Real Life, An American Marriage, The Vanishing Half, Transcendent Kingdom-these are all the recent ones that I‘ve read that deal with racism. I read Caucasia years ago & that was also good. 4y
rsteve388 Yeah I have read some of these as well. 4y

These core characters are so well crafted. Diverse and engaging, with very believable family dynamics, these are characters I love after just 2 books in the series.

A great sequel to one of my favorite new cozy mysteries! The Crewse crew is back at making ice cream and solving mysteries, and this time Bronwyn has to help clear the name of her former coworker and friend. Rory has come from New York to woo Bronwyn back to her old job, but she's also hiding a secret. Lots of fun, lots of hijinks, and some yummy ice cream recipes at the end!

♠️♠️ My final #TBRDeckofCards selection for now! This #SixofSpades brought me the prompt “Punny Title”. This is from my #netgalleybacklog, which I really have to work on. ♠️♠️
