It's Tuesday again already! Here are the #Two4Tuesday questions. Anyone can play! Happy Tuesday everyone!
1️⃣ It is a subset of the crime fiction genre that usually features a MC that is deeply flawed. The stories tend to be gritty and deal with the darker side of criminality.
2️⃣ L. A. Confidential by James Ellroy (tagged). A classic in the genre and rightly so. So well written and great character development are what make it a favorite for me.

James ellroy is a writer who is not only an interesting character ( check out his desert island discs) but also a writer who captures the dark streets of America with great plots +sometimes tricky prose. This series is great + also a brilliant film. Ive also read the American tabloid series which covers the 50s and 60s incl cuba,Kennedy, hoover et al but the prose grew more tricky in each bk, all prob deserve a reread.

Iconic title. Better 🎥 . An honorable heir to the Noir novel. Not as good as the masters... Chandler, Hammett but then who is. #uncannyOctober

so-soL.A. Confidential is so far the only instance for me where l like the film a lot (a lot) more than the book.
I know, so strange, but where l found the film tight and intense, with fantastic characters, l found the book too long and complicated and l didn't really root for any of the characters.
Shame.

pickI'm very hesitantly giving this a "pick". I believe this is a rare instance where the movie surpasses the book. The book itself is long, somewhat tedious and very all over the place. There are about a million characters to keep up with, which gets confusing. Add about 10 plot twists, too. Why the "pick" then? The actual storyline is excellent, the characters fascinating. I am just not a fan of Elroy's writing style. Still, just something about it.
My current read, which I'm really enjoying. I love the movie, so I figured it was about time I read the book! #noir #LitsyAfterDark
