'I can help you, Cal. I can help you solve the murder of Cindy Mellish.' A grisly murder in a shabby New York bookstore seems to hold a special significance for Detective Callum Doyle: the victim's been marked with a message that could have been left specially for him. But why? Then the sinister phone calls start. Doyle is told more deaths are planned but the caller will give him clues on condition he keeps them to himself. So begins his dilemma. If he turns the offer down he will have nothing to go on. But if he accepts and gets it wrong, he will have concealed knowledge that could have stopped a killer. As more deaths follow, increasingly vicious and apparently random, the pressure on Doyle to find a link becomes unbearable. Does he continue to gamble with peoples lives? Or must he sacrifice everything to defeat a ruthless and manipulative enemy? Furiously fast-paced, totally unpredictable and unforgettable, this is a masterpiece from the acclaimed author of Pariah.

Okay y‘all, I need some help. I‘m getting a new bookcase in front of my bed. I‘m trying to think of my neck too, but for aesthetics should the tv be on the right (where it is) or left? The book case will be about as tall as the painting when it‘s built.

We also got two of my favorite paintings out of storage!! (The one in the pic is going over my bed.) Will post finished pics later this weekend!! 👏🏻👏🏻🎉🎉🤩🤩

TheSpineView Hard to say without seeing the whole room. My gut though tells me that you should go with the option that makes seeing the TV the easiest. 5y
violabrain Unpopular opinion I‘m sure, but I would remove the TV from the bedroom entirely. There‘s a lot of research that shows you will be healthier and sleep better if you take the TV out of the bedroom. 5y
LeahBergen Make a bookcase that covers the whole wall between those curtains and set the TV into the centre of it at a comfortable viewing height.😃 5y
See All 14 Comments
Panic70 I would pick making the bookcase the focal point, and the tv the afterthought. Just thinking seeing your bookcase will bring you joy. So put it right in your line of sight??? 5y
Megabooks @TheSpineView that‘s what I‘m thinking. My head has naturally gone a bit right since my fusion, so I‘m thinking that. 5y
Megabooks @violabrain I think if I had done that earlier in my life it would be good, but after my car accident when I was 17, I stopped being able to sleep without it on. I set the sleep timer, so it doesn‘t play all night, but as an adult, I would totally agree. But as someone still experiencing pain and trauma from the accident, I am loathe to give it up. 😢 5y
Megabooks @LeahBergen That is a good idea!! I‘m probably going to go with this inexpensive one in the short term (because I‘m running out of space on my two other shelves! 😂😂) but that‘s a really good long-term solution! Thanks!! 5y
Megabooks @Panic70 they are both equally in my line of sight right now just looking ahead.. (You can kind of see my feet.) I like @LeahBergen ‘s idea of a larger unit where it could all fit and I could possibly have more shelves. But I agree that the bookcase is more joyful. From where I have my Flippy now to type left handed, I have the tv covered and can see the bookshelf. Good thought. Thank you! 5y
violabrain @Megabooks Oh, I‘m so sorry to hear this! 😥😥 I don‘t blame you for leaving it on! I love your art by the way! 😍😍 5y
Megabooks @violabrain thank you! I picked it up at an art fair a few years ago. It‘s called Ghost in the Machine like the mind-body relationship from Ryle. 👍🏻 I‘m glad to have it out of storage. 5y
Crazeedi Whatever you decide, yay for a new bookcase! I need another desperately too!! 5y
Megabooks @Crazeedi yay for TBRs and bookcases!! 🥂 5y
BarbaraBB I‘d put the books on the left side. So you can easily watch tv and have the books right in front of you ❤️ 5y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB I‘ve had it set up that way all last night, and I think I like it. It really is making me happier! 😁💜 5y

I was wondering if anyone by chance would have a copy of the following books on Kindle that they would be able to use Amazon to loan me? These books are for my #NewYearWhoDis and I wanted to read them, but being currently out of a job for health issues means relying on my library and my small-town library might be a year or more before they buy them. The list is in the first comment

jessinikkip
-- Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham
-- Old Man‘s War by John Scalzi
-- The Black God‘s Drums by P. Djeli Clark
-- The Devil Aspect by Craig Russell
-- The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson
-- Monster, She Wrote by Lisa Kroger
-- This Is Our Story by Ashley Elston
-- The Wicked & The Divine: The Faust Act vol 1by Kieron Gillen
--The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes vol 1 by Neil Gaiman

ljuliel Sorry, Jessi, wish I could help. I don‘t have any of those books, plus I know that Kindle doesn‘t allow sharing of a majority of their books ( unless they‘re freebies which are few and far between nowadays, ) or possibly some of the Kindle Unlimited might be shareable. I‘m not familiar with any on your list , though. Good luck. 🍀 (edited) 5y
Lauram I fairly confident I won a copy of The Devil Aspect from a Goodreads giveaway. I‘ll bump it up on my TBR pile and will send it to you as soon as I‘m done. 5y

DGRachel I checked Amazon and the only one that is lending enabled is This is Our Story. I don‘t own that one. Wicked & Divine and The Sandman are both available through Kindle Unlimited. If you‘ve not had KU before, you can probably subscribe for free for a trial period, which may be long enough for you to read those two. Just a thought. 5y
Megabooks I wish I could help you. My Old Man‘s War is in storage because I could just choose a few books in my current living situation. I, too, am out of work and disabled. I depend on the library and gift cards from family/friends. Sending support. I wish I could help more!! 5y
Butterfinger I don't have these. Does your library belong to a group that you may borrow from another library in the same group? That probably doesn't make sense. NC libraries share and send books through a courier. 5y
jessinikkip @Butterfinger like a interlibrary loan? They probably do, but books have to have been published over 2 years ago for them to get them. My library is really weird 5y
jessinikkip @DGRachel thank you! I forgot that KU does offer a trial for a couple weeks or whatever it is. I'll definitely give that a try 5y
jessinikkip @Lauram thank you!! 5y
jessinikkip @Megabooks not a problem! I spent my Christmas gift card om getting a couple of them. Figured it couldnt hurt to check here for some help. Worst answer I could get is that no one could help lol 5y

Kimberlone Yes, all you have to do is follow and new posts and accounts will start appearing in your feed. I noticed it starting to do it with my feed yesterday 6y
emtobiasz Yes, I‘m enjoying it so far— it‘s putting a lot more book-focused posts in my feed to balance the less book-focused chain posts/Q&As. 6y
Itchyfeetreader What a cool feature just followed let‘s see what happens 6y
Rachbb3 @emtobiasz I noticed that too. I like it. I've been noticing a lot more non bookish posts lately and it doesn't encourage me to be on Litsy very much. Hopefully this helps. 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Rachbb3 same here! I‘d open the app and see all these post I missed but they were all challenges or q&a and it would give me anxiety. This new feature is awesome. @emtobiasz 6y

Hey YOU. You know who YOU are! . I won't pretend I know what you are going through. But I do know how it's effecting your family. I know how it effected our family when my father needed help.

Please, Please, PLEASE, call, text or chat. Even if you don't think you need help! DVA gets a really bad rap, but they shouldn't. These people know the special types of things you as a vet have been through. They are there for ALL vets. Please call

LibrarianRyan It does net matter if things are server error related or know. We need to take care of our vets. And they do. 7y

Who knows a book based on this description : ‘A western about Twincest, poor parenting and dealings with two vague religious cults‘. UPDATE: I was playing ‘describe a book plot badly‘ on instagram and someone wrote the above. while Star Wars is a book it is first and foremost a film, so i did not even think of it. My picture of Obi was a weird Jedi coincidence😲. Thanks @tournevis !!

tournevis A young farmer is radicalized by an old bearded religious zealot to inflict armed attacks against the government. 7y

Hi Litsy friends! Happy Saturday! Love that every time I log into Litsy, the community has grown. Big Litsy community means endless connections to amazing books! With that in mind- a friend of mine is looking for book recs for her sons 7 and 10 years old. Any recs would be much appreciated. Specifically diverse reads :)

GypsyKat @Lmstraubie Books for ages 7-10... I feel like you'll know some to recommend. 😊 7y
Tamra My kids have loved the Dragon Masters series from Branches Books. (We started them at about 6-7 yrs old). They and I adore Bad Kitty books, chapter & picture books. My son who is 9 almost 10 enjoys the popular graphic novels like El Deafo, Smile, Babysitters Club, etc. Mr. Pants (cat comics-style format), and Bad Guys series from Scholastic. (edited) 7y
Tamra And of course my son has liked Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. 7y

MeganAnn My son who is 8, but reads a bit above his age level loved this series 7y
MeganAnn Also, I'm reading Wonder with him right now and we are both loving it. I think every kid should read it at some point 7y
MeganAnn And my son loved the Amulet graphic novels as well 7y
MeganAnn A fun diverse read for the younger one is The No. 1 Car Spotter, which isn't in the litsy database 7y
Beachesnbooks Highly recommend the Animorphs series! Probably more for the older brother though, they do get pretty violent. 7y
meagolas Full of Beans by Jennifer Holm and The Wild Robot by Peter Brown were my favorites from 2016. Also loved the Masterminds series by Korman. 7y

Need some suggestions.... my brother is a big Stephen King/Dean Koontz reader - also likes police thrillers/mysteries like James Patterson and Michael Connelly. Any suggestions for books/authors or even a series I can get him? TIA!

cathysaid Maybe early John Grisham (the first four)? Or books by Stephen King's son - I think NOS4A2 is one? 7y
JillR I've just been bought The Fireman by Joe Hill which looks good (I think he's SK's son? 😳) My husband is a huge SK fan but when he fancies a change has been reading Lee Child for a quick easy read, and I just got him the first Sherlock book by Anthony Horowitz 7y
Jerdencon @cathysaid @JillR thank you for the suggestions! 7y
