Not at all book related, but I finally got to watch this on Hulu. 😭😭

I could learn a few things from Fred.

Then I fell into a rabbit hole watching interviews with Hanks about making the movie.

BarkingMadRead This was so well done! My mom and I went and see it in the theater when it first came out. So good! 9mo
jlhammar Great movie! 9mo
Tamra @BarkingMadRead agreed! I wasn‘t expecting it to have much a plot. @jlhammar 9mo
Cathythoughts I must look out for it. I love Tom Hanks ❤️ 9mo

This book is awesome! I love all the poetry that kids could read and relate to even if they don‘t know who Mister Rogers is. This book is a poetry picture book and a New York Times Best Seller. I would use this as an independent read because poetry is great to go at your own pace and really dive into on your own!

Hannacallaham For ESOL I would use 3. Encourage self-talk and 38. Assign short readings for homework. For UDL I would use 6.1 and 6.4 5y

Sweet reminder of a man that truly seemed to have a beautiful heart ❤️ filled with concern and care for children. Although some did not hold up well over time the poems and song lyrics will take you back to the neighborhood and bring a smile to your face.

It can wet and it can coo.
But there's one thing it can never...
It can never be like you.

This book is lovely. It gets this reader for nostalgia. Some of the poems I remember as the songs they were. For many they seem new. I like introducing children to poetry through songs. Many of this generation will not notice the difference, thereby making a great lesson and hopefully better music in generations to come).

Seeing Mr Rogers today.

Saw Ford vs Ferrari Wednesday. It was awesome if your a car person. Good if your not (so josh said)

Saw Frozen 2 last night. It was pretty good. They did a few weird thing to attract tweens/teens that are a little weird. Let‘s just say Kristoff close ups that remind me of Air Supply videos. The odd thing to me is that some of the songs were redone by Panic at the Disco and Weezer for the credits.

Crazeedi Can't wait to see mr rogers 5y
Bklover Omg. Air Supply videos! Haven‘t thought of those in ages. 5y

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood by Fred Rodgers illustrated by Luke Flowers is a P book containing the poetry of the one and only Mr. Rogers. The poems and pictures included in this book will make you and fall in love with reading poetry and would best be used in a RA, IR, or S setting. I would use UDL principle 2.5 and use media to introduce students to who Mr. Rodgers was and what he did throughout his life. #ucflae3414f19

KristenScala I would use EL strategy 17 and promote contextual support through visuals, demonstration and body language to teach the poems included in this book. https://www.fredrogerscenter.org/2018/12/beechwood-kindergarteners-learn-with-mi... this is a cute article about how a kindergarten teacher implemented Mr Rodgers poems into her classroom. 5y
DrSpalding I still need to see this movie! I have added this book to my stack. Great idea going straight to Mr. Rogers website to see how the kindergarten teacher used the poems in her classroom. Better explanation of your English learner strategy here 5y

This poetry book is filled with self affirming poems for children. It is wonderful for an IR, especially for students who need confidence boosts. This book features beautiful pictures that can be enjoyed by students no matter their reading ability level. This would be a good opportunity to use ESOL strategy 45. Use Venn diagrams to compare and contrast activities.

ebrown This http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/calendar-activities/mister-rog... lesson plan features biographies and video clips of live action Mister Rogers that students can compare and contrast with. This also offers the opportunity to incorporate the UDL strategies 1.1-1.3, offering multiple ways to display information. #ucflae3414f19 5y

kgarzon Thank you for including an example of a poem in your picture! If those are the type of poems in the book, I would love to use it in the classroom :) 5y
sbombasi I like how this book is ranged for any kind of students reading level! Especially for poetry which may be hard for students to understand because words tend to have different meanings. 5y
AlyssaB This book sounds like a great add on to a library collection because it gives students a resource for when they need a pick me up of confidence boost. 5y
cassandram What a great poem! I would love to read this. 5y
Jewelwinkler Wow this book looks amazing. Definitely going to buy this for my future classroom because it‘s so important for students to have positive words in their life, especially if they do not have that at home. Also, I LOVE MR. ROGERS! So sad a lot of students will not know about him. I will definitely show my students who he was and what he was all about :) 5y
Lrobertson I love anything to help student with confidence in this world where they may not always get it! Decide going to get this book! It would be good to read a poem each day to the students to get morals up! 5y
Erinehart This book is so awesome in more ways than just one. I‘ve only read a few of the poems and they are so uplifting. I think this is great to have students read. 5y

I will read anything Mister Rogers. This is a collection of his poetry/song lyrics, and it is just as comforting and beautiful as he was. I did miss his gentle voice delivering them to me. The art style is very like the Daniel Tiger series, and it fit the book well.

I listened to this as an audiobook read by John Lithgow and it was amazing and so relaxing. ?

Excellent book to read with your kids and a great reminder to those of us "older" kids, that sometimes all it takes to change how good/bad a day is going is a simple act of kindness.

Most of these poems/songs I remember from watching the show as a child, and hearing them again put me in a very happy place. ???

Being from Pittsburgh, Mister Rogers truly holds a place in my heart for all time. Could not resist picking this up.

rretzler I‘ll never forget my visit to the set when I was 4-5 - I think it may have been before the show went national. Didn‘t get to meet Mr Rogers, but I did get to meet Mr McFeely and Betty Aberlin, plus Trolley and all the puppets. Being from Pittsburgh, do you also remember Paul Shannon‘s Adventure Time? 6y

#LitsyWalkers is serving as my motivation to get hubby and me back into a regular walking routine. I don‘t #audiowalk because we walk together. Today was just a perfect day for an extended walk through part of our neighborhood we don‘t usually visit. I‘m using the active minutes that my Fitbit credited me for the number challenge from @kaye . Another number is 1.8 miles, really great for hubby with his orthopedic problems.

Kaye Great job , Lynn. To you AND your husband. You both got golden stars today. 🌟🌟. Those Fitbits look really handy. 6y
Lynnsoprano @kaye I‘ve had one for about 5 years now. I don‘t have one of the real fancy ones, but I get steps, miles, active minutes, and an estimate of calories burned. And if I haven‘t gotten at least 250 steps in an hour, I get a reminder 10 minutes to the hour. It‘s made a difference for me. 6y
Kaye Sounds neat ! Maybe I‘ll get one someday. 6y

Thank you to Quirk Books for sending me an advance copy of "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”

As a child of the 70‘s, Mr. Rogers was ever-present. I didn‘t realize how much I‘d missed him until I read through some familiar & some new, passages in this poetry. His gentle sentiments are needed as today, especially with loud abrasive technology permeating childhood.

I‘ve wrapped this for my niece for Christmas & I hope she‘ll love it as well.

tracey38 I grew up with Mr. Rogers and loved him. 6y
