This TL picture book by Simms Tabak retells about an old lady who swallows a fly, amongst other things. This would be good for S, the lesson plan is great for creating a storytelling for this book for the students to perform. This NF picture book written by Jerry Pallotta illustrated by Rob Bolster would be great for a RA to introduce students about the concept of multiplication. Using pieces of the Hershey‘s Milk Chocolate bar as parts to represent rows and columns can make it so much easier for students to understand the process of multiplication “facts” emphasizing the problems on the pages. I think it would be nice to use real candy bar in a lesson. #ucflae3414f19

This story tells about a sweet, caring woman who makes a delicious stew that wafts through the community. Community members stop by to have some and book shows great qualities of sharing, gratitude and giving back. This P book is a companion to the New York Times Best Seller that was written by Mary Ann Hoberman and illustrated by Michael Emberly has a great anthology of different short poems students can easily read. It would be perfect for a PR, the book has lines that are color-coded so students can choose among themselves what color they want to read and have a conversation through a poem.

This TL Caldecott Honor picture book by Hans Christian Andersen; adapted and illustrated by Jerry Pinkney retells about the original tale of the Ugly Duckling that would be great for RA. The little duckling gets picked on by the others but surviving obstacles did not defeat him in discovering that he is beautiful and learns to love and express his differences of becoming a swan. #ucflae3414f19

This HF picture book by Patricia Polacco retells a story passed down to her about the trials and tribulations of two soldiers named Sheldon Russell Curtis (Say) who was a white soldier and Pinkus Aylee (Pink) who was a black soldier that was involved in the Civil War. Say was wounded in battle and Pink found him, brought him to shelter, and helped him recover.

This B picture book written by Chelsea Clinton and illustrated by Alexandra Boiger tells about 13 American women who changed the world in their own ways. Throughout her years in school, everyone was able to read except for her which made her frustrated and thought she was dumb. CJ never questions why he takes the bus every day until one day he asks his Nana why they don‘t take a car like his friends. This RF novel by Sharon Draper, is a great story about diversity. This book entails an 11-year-old girl named Isabella who is in the 6th grade. She is half black and half white.
