I liked the idea of the story, Underground Railroad conductors turned detectives, and there is magic involved. Sadly, I didn't like the execution.

Too many characters are introduced, all lacked back story. The magic system is not really explained. The mystery is interesting, but since there was too much telling, via dialogue between the two main characters Hetty and Benjy, it was not very engaging.

This mystery set in a fantasy world was very exciting. I loved the world, set during the end of reconstruction, where white people use sorcery and Black people use magic based on constellations.
People are being murdered and a cursed constellation is being left for the Conductors turned detectives to find. While I did feel the bad guy came out of nowhere, it was a good story overall.

A nice little murder mystery with a very cleverly built world of magic in post-Civil War Philadelphia. I loved Hetty and Benjy and how they work together. A fresh, creative historical fiction-fantasy. I listened to the audio read by the always fabulous Bahni Turpin.❤️

This book wasn‘t even on my radar, and now I have a new-to-me series to read, as book 2 is out already!

All of these books from @ozma.of.oz look so good! I already have The Conductors, and the Chambers and Klune are both on my Xmas list. I just read (and LOVED) Middlegame so I'm excited to read more of Seanan McGuire. Also, that cover is giving me serious mid-00s urban fantasy nostalgia! #NYWD22 @monalyisha

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a nice mix of murder mystery and magic. I enjoyed the setting of post civil war Philadelphia. The pacing felt a little slow at times but I liked the story and the strong main character.

This story is great, but there have been a few omissions (she tucked *it* into her pocket, surely?) like this one that have me scratching my head.

I'm finding the magic part of this confusing but I can't stop reading because the writing and story are so strong!

This has some execution issues like uneven pacing and too many characters randomly introduced, but it‘s an intriguing story. I‘m looking forward to the next installment!

I thought about posting a picture of the pile of ruined, water-logged books we took to the dump today, but it was just too sad of a sight. Here‘s Gus inspecting my book instead.
Anyone have a recommendation for a good audiobook to help cheer me up a bit? I got a new Libro.fm credit today & thought I‘d try to spend it on something cheery instead of the heavier nonfiction I tend to be drawn to.

Well, I was going to start reading for #20in4 until Daisy decided that reading was not as good as petting her 🙄 You can‘t tell in the picture, but she is happily laying on top of me. I‘ll get to read...eventually...

My plans for #20in4 for the weekend. Finals are done and I‘m dog sitting my parents dogs for the weekend so hopefully I can get through The Conductors and a couple Library books on my kindle if all goes well. @Andrew65

My latest pick from My TBR. They all look great! I‘m taking half a day off of work tomorrow, perfect timing to go browse the bookstore for these (and maybe one or two more...) #getTBR

I really adored the community established in this one. Guessed where the mystery was going (and there was one thread I'm still a little 🧐 about) but I honestly viewed it as a vehicle to further explore the characters which I adored, and I don't really think it ultimately impacted my reading experience. https://youtu.be/BSx1f0Xscis
