She gives me so much hope!
I'm sorry, I bailed after she had been at The White House a while. It was a fascinating insight into a mindset and way of being that she developed through a determined childhood and adolescence. The rise to power was great to read, but I think she should have stopped there - I get why she didn't, as she is more than just a First Lady and wouldn't want to be defined as having 'made it' when she entered the White House - I just stopped caring. Good.
What can I say, she's an incredible lady.
Etta James was unhappy with Beyoncé singing #atlast during the inaugural ball, but I thought it was fine. ??♀️

I did not reach my goal of 20 chapters (I blame the naps), but I did take a big bite out of this book, so thank you @Andrew65 !
#20in4 #Readathon
Finished 5/20 chapters today for the #20in4 #Readathon. I‘m up to the proposal.
Lots of time today to read and nap!
How‘s it going for you @Andrew65 ?
Happy #20in4 #Readathon everyone!
My goal is to read 20 chapters in the next 3 days. That will take me to end of Becoming and a few chapters into my next book.
Today was my last day of school so I only got 2 pages read. Looking forward to having more time to read!
Thank you for hosting @Andrew65 !
Especially enjoyed the former first Lady reading this book to me.
Hi everyone! My name is Riley and I am an avid reader. Tonight I finished “Becoming” by Michelle Obama. This is the 2nd memoir I‘ve read this year. There is something good about switching up my typical Mystery/Thriller or Raunchy Romance (hehe) with someone real. Thank you @wisherwishinguponastar for introducing me to this app! Here‘s to trying to figure it out, one book at a time ✨ Goal: 23/75
#audiowalking
Today I went on my second audiowalk. Need to get used to the feeling. Normally I'm either savouring the silence or bopping along to my tunes, like, shawty fire burning on the dancefloooor oh whoa ohhhh....🎶💅🏻🎶
Bit worried that every time I walk past people I'm lost in concentration / frowning at the floor trying to take in the book 😅😅
Still, it's combining reading and exercise so I'm going to give myself a sticker ✌🏻😘
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have no love or interest in politics but highly recommend this. A beautiful person who has taken opportunities of life to be a good person to say the least. Enlightening look from a black woman‘s perspective, having come from a humble background. I‘m inspired and enlightened and want to hug Michelle for being as genuine as possible.
I was expecting a book about women empowerment and the first part of the book really got to me. Going onwards with my read I lost interest. A bit too political and sometimes felt a bit like self propaganda.
American politic is really far from my day to day life, probably that's why this book didn't talk to me that much
I have a lot to say about this book. 1. I love how cautious the Obamas were with their daughters. 2. How could Michelle be so surprised by Barack's trajectory (like she didn't think she should date him to she didn't see herself as the wife of a politician). What a post turtle! 3. She really exposed the sexist expectation that the first lady act as a national hostess/fashion icon. Better her than me!
I decided to ask friends from Facebook for their recommendations for this challenge - love the diversity of genres shown here!
My best find today. I think I paid $2 at Goodwill it looks like it was never read or even flipped through 😮 the dust jacket is a little dinged but I think that may have happened in the bag.
I‘ve read it via the audio which is amazing and I love that I have a physical copy now.
Loved this book! Michelle Obama is AMAZING 🤩

I liked this. She is an amazing woman and an amazing speaker. There are still some things that I don‘t understand about American politics (I‘m Canadian), but I learned a few things, too. And it really was an interesting look behind the scenes of the Obamas lives, as well as behind the scenes in the White House. I like that she really seems down-to-earth and was all about (as much as she could be) keeping her daughter‘s lives as normal as possible
Michelle tells about the major things that shaped her life. She tells about what changed her the good, the bad, and the ugly. She tells about her being prejudged and discriminated against for her skin and gender and how the people she‘s close to affected her life. She brings up issues that they face in Barak‘s presidency. She was totally capable of acing on her bar exam, but she was busy with life to study. There‘s never a dull moment.
Really enjoyed listening to Becoming, and especially loved that it was read by Michelle Obama. This book gave me insights that I hadn‘t known or thought about, and honestly made me miss the days when she was First Lady. Definitely recommend, even if you don‘t agree with her politics.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Becoming has been on my Book Club‘s TBR list for some time now, and I‘m so glad that we‘ve finally made this our January ‘22 selection! I‘m sure the audiobook is phenomenal, but I could hear her voice as I read the text. Her story, her perspective, her advice was compelling. Highly recommend.
If you haven't read this book, you should. I could leave a long review about the powerful messages and how elegantly she retells trying times. But honestly, it wouldn't do it justice. Just read it.
And if I may suggest, listen to it read by the author herself as I did.
My #lastfirst reads for 2021/2022 will be the tagged (Becoming), which I started yesterday for my Book Club‘s January pick, but I‘m ready to start my first #NYWD22 pick on Saturday (Ban This Book!).
AHH so good!!! I finally had the courage to tackle all 19 hours of this audiobook, but I flew through it! It was much more detailed and interesting than I even thought it was going to be. I found myself crying at certain moments! I want to try reading more autobiographies and memoirs.
When I was on maternity leave, I found myself googling all sorts of things and stumbled upon the various places you can send birth announcements and possibly get responses. My boys were born in 2016 so I managed to send this out under the wire and so thankful I will forever have this momento for them. Anyway the husband got me this book 3 years ago when it came out, so finally picked it up in anticipation for #obamabuddyread 🔽
I'll preface this review by saying that I'm not from the US so I didn't really know a lot about the Obamas as I never really took that much notice of them or indeed US politics in general. Now, it is a good read but I found myself feeling a little disappointed with it. I felt that the WH section of their life was rushed through compared to earlier years. Overall, I liked it but I didn't love it. 3⭐
Excellent read about Michelle Obama‘s story. Fast paced, well written and very interesting. #litsyatoz challenge for the letter O.
I loved this bio. Michelle was never one to be in the spotlight—but here, we get to know her, her experiences, her thoughts, how she felt. She was a remarkable FLOTUS, and a woman I have so much respect for her. I‘ll never forget her words: “When they go low, we go high.” The Obamas continue to be an inspiration for so many.
I purchased this book today for my kindle app. I look forward to reading it.
