Only Pirate at the Party
Only Pirate at the Party | Lindsey Stirling, Brooke S Passey
21 posts | 31 read | 20 to read
Dancing electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling shares her unconventional journey in an inspiring memoir filled with the energy, persistence, and humor that have helped her successfully pursue a passion outside the box. A classically trained musician gone rogue, Lindsey Stirling is the epitome of independent, millennial-defined success: after being voted off the set of "America s Got Talent, "she went on to amass more than ten million social media fans, record two full-length albums, release multiple hits with billions of YouTube views, and to tour sold-out venues across the world. Lindsey is not afraid to be herself. In fact, it s her confidence and individuality that have propelled her into the spotlight. But the road hasn t been easy. After being rejected by talent scouts, music reps, and eventually on national television, Lindsey forged her own path, step by step. Detailing every trial and triumph she has faced until now, Lindsey shares stories of her humble yet charmed childhood, humorous adolescence, life as a struggling musician, personal struggles with anorexia, and finally, success as a world-class entertainer. Lindsey s magnetizing story at once remarkable and universal is a testimony that there is no singular recipe for success, and despite what people may say, sometimes it s okay to be "The Only Pirate at the Party.""

I have been a fan of Lindsey Stirling for years, but I never got around to reading this book until now. She has such a unique personality that bleeds through into this book. It was fun, but it still showed some more vulnerable parts of her life.

Favorite genre fantasy: toss between Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) and Frank Herbert (Dune).

I don‘t really read non-fiction, but a few. I‘ll go with Nathaniel Philbrick (In the Heart of the Sea).

CrowCAH I remembered to tag you @Klou properly today! 😉 4y

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

Fun, quick audiobook. I've been a fan of Lindsey for many years, and listening to her talk about her life was like talking with a friend. 💚 🎻

Although she currently lives in LA, most of this book talks about her childhood growing up in Arizona, so this marks another off of my #ReadingUSA2019 map. @Librarybelle

Starting this #Audiobook as I travel westward ho to visit my sister. I should be able to finish the book there and back.

It‘s read by Lindsey Stirling herself and has a comedic wit to it; so far I‘m enjoying it!

I also love her violin 🎻 playing!

Went to see dancing violinist YouTube star Lindsay Stirling tonight with my daughter. (If you don't know who that is, you probably don't live with a tween. 😆) It was pretty festive and fun!

Nebklvr What fun! I have never been to a live show but she is quite talented 6y
MelissaSue81 Oh my goodness, I just saw a billboard for her and I was like who? Apparently my tween isn‘t tween enough. 😂 6y
bookandcat She's awesome! 6y

TheWordJar Love her! Sounds like that would be a great show! 6y
Librariana I love the collabs (there's a tween-friendly word for ya! Lol!) that she's done with Pentatonix! 6y
merelybookish @Nebklvr @bookandcat @thewordjar. She is talented and it was a fun stage show. I'm glad it was Xmas music. 6y
merelybookish @MelissaSue81 Now you'll see here everywhere. And I'm guessing she appeals to a certain kind of tween. 6y
merelybookish @Librariana Totes! ☺️ 6y
laurieluna I love the cover of Radioactive she did with pentatonix! 6y
Burghbookaddict Idk who anyone is anymore and it makes me feel old 😫 6y
Rudis Lucky!! 😍😍😍 6y
Blaire Never heard of her, but sounds like a fun outing. The only you tube star I know of is adriene from yoga with adriene. 😍. My kids are only 6 and 3 so I‘m a few years away from being in the know. 6y
Jess_Read_This How fun! I dragged the Mr. to one of her concerts in MI a couple years ago and we had a lot of fun. This was before her Dancing w the Stars and Evanescence collabs though.... I‘ve noticed her work is a little different now. I really enjoy her work! (edited) 6y
merelybookish @BurghBookAddict I understand! I use to follow celebrity gossip and know who everyone was. Now I have no clue and don't really care. 🤷😄 6y
merelybookish @Blaire Enjoy your Youtube-free years! Its is a whole new world of shows and celebrities. 😯 Some of it's okay. Some is awful. (The worst are the shows of people narrating while they play videogames! 🙄) 6y
merelybookish @Jess_Read_This How sporting of the Mr.! There were some men there last night but mostly mom's and daughters! 6y
merelybookish @miralunasbooknook I haven't seen that but am curious now! 6y
merelybookish @Rudis That's what I told my daughter! 😛 6y
DivineDiana Going to check her videos on YouTube! 😉 6y
merelybookish @DivineDiana Enjoy! Her Xmas album is an easy intro! 6y
DivineDiana She‘s great! I saved the Christmas album and some others on my Spotify. 6y

I have loved Lindsey Sterling since Pandora played one of her songs years ago, I have seen her in concert and am seeing her again in July, but I love her even more since reading her book. Her humor and passion, nerdy-ness and originality is evident in her work but I had no idea the struggles she went through in her personal life. She is a woman to be admired for her strength and perseverance.
I laughed, I cried, and I feel like an old friend.

You read your poetry slowly, I'll dance around the stage quickly, and we can share responsibility for the deeply uncomfortable feeling in the room afterward.

I love audio-biographies read by the author! I've been a fan of Lindsey Stirling long before she was a household name. I feel like a proud Mom showing off my muse and how she didn't color in the lines to reach her success. Please excuse me while I go binge on Lindsey's YouTube Channel.

MaggieCarr @RaimeyGallant your like just got me to 1,000 litfluence! I'm starting to feel like I belong here :) 6y

Being a huge Lindsey fan, I‘m too biased to give an accurate review. I loved the book, although (and this hurts me to say) the first couple of chapters were for a younger audience. I used the exact signature from my personal signed copy for an addition to my tattoo of The Oval Portrait, by E.A.Poe, with Lindsey being the subject of the painting...#ovalportrait #poe

"She was a maiden of rarest beauty, and not more lovely than full of glee....”

Been a fan of Lindsey Stirling from the beginning. I went with the audiobook and enjoyed listening to her narration. She's adorable and extremely genuine. We've been to four of her concerts and are happy for her growing success. 🎻🎼

A thrilling glimpse into the quirky violinist and where she started. This book, especially the audiobook really brings you closer to Lindsey and listening to her thrilling story, and what makes her do what she does, is worth it.

As a fan of Lindsey Stirling's music I really enjoyed her book. It's entertaining, deep in some parts and fluff in others. Makes me want to go back and watch her YouTube videos.

Bout of books catch up! I can't remember what book number this was. 4? 5? I forgot. But I read it! I had never heard of her until she popped up on my Spotify one day and I became a fan and since it was so highly recommended I had to check it out. She's utterly adorable. #boutofbooks

Mehso-so

Meh. Quick, sometimes funny, but too meandering.

haileybean My ex got me this book and I want to read it because I like her music, but at the same time I don't know. I think it's the same thing about Felicia Day's book. I like them but I don't know if I want to read a book about them 8y
Shaunesay I do like Lindsay but the book just felt flat to me. A little too much me me me and not much about anyone else in her life as I recall. Admittedly it was mostly written before Gavi passed, but I really expected more of him and Drew and others to be mentioned along the way. I felt like Felicia's book was better myself. 8y
