This took me awhile to read, for some reason my mind just kept wandering, even though it was a good read

This was a solid crime novel.
The interactions between the characters was good, you see some of DS McRae‘s backstory (this is the first book), and the search for the killer was interesting.
I do think that trigger warnings are needed for this as the blurb doesn‘t really mention the SA that crops up. It‘s a bold move to start a potential crime series with child murder and abuse… but based on how long it has been going it has paid off!

“It's DS Logan McRae's first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn't get much worse. Three-year-old David Reid's body is discovered in a ditch: strangled, mutilated and a long time dead. And he's only the first. There's a serial killer stalking the Granite City, and the local media are baying for blood.
More children are going missing. More are going to die. And if Logan isn't careful, he could end up joining them.”
Another one finished for the #DashingDecember readathon. It wasn‘t quite in time for the Bloody Scotland Book Club discussion, but they manage to keep it mostly spoiler free. OTOH very timely for setting, as it takes place in December. In Aberdeen, where the only time it‘s not raining is when it‘s snowing or sleeting. Dark but interesting story with surprising humorous moments. I did guess a few twists before the MC, but he had a lot on his plate!
Top is the #libraryhaul I took on my trip last weekend but left in the car because we got to the hotel so late. I‘ll start one or both tomorrow when I have NOTHING on my schedule. 😌
Bottom is #bookstorehaul from the park visitor center. They‘re for my brother-in-law but I might keep one for myself. 😎
I‘ve heard so many good things about this series and I loved the first book! My local library has the entire series so I can‘t wait to dive into book 2! I am officially addicted to this series! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!
The Logan McRae series is tartan noir at it‘s best - gritty, dark, and potty-mouthed but also full of heart and humour. It also instantly cures any homesickness on my part as it reminds me of how awful winter in Aberdeenshire can be!

This series is set in my hometown, loving reading a novel set in the streets I know so well ❤️ We had a beautiful sunny weekend in Aberdeen (a nice change from the ‘pissing down‘ rain described at the start of this novel 😂) so I spent lots of time in the garden reading #perfectweekend #stuartmacbride #coldgranite #thegranitecity #aberdream
Another one who's unlikely to find himself headhunted by the Scottish Tourist Board. This is the first in his series starring DS Logan McRae and it's grittier than a lorry-load of slag. There appears to be a paedophile child-killer loose on the mean streets of Aberdeen and some descriptions are not for the faint of heart or queasy of stomach. There is, though, a fair amount of dour humour and the supporting cast are excellent.
Now that's what I call a gracious tribute 😂😂😂

I read most of this yesterday and finished it early this morning. I didn‘t include this in my stack since I technically started this before but taking it down as Book #1 finished! 😝
I thought this book was a good mystery/thriller but also kind of all over the place. And, I didn‘t realize the level of violence against kids in here, but I also didn‘t read the synopsis. 🤦🏻♀️

I love these crime novels set in Aberdeen which are full of black humour, f-bombs, and likeable characters. It's the only series I'm up to date with!

Detective Logan McRae is at Aberdeen Police HQ after leave following knife injuries he sustained in an altercation. We don‘t get this backstory even though this is book 1. Flawed and physically compromised detective and a series of child murders- brutal (trigger warning child abuse) and the death of a strong arm man for the local crime boss- then there is Logan‘s love life. Well written and the narrator is great. Recommended procedural.
I'm not usually a fan of police procedural, but chose this as a break from my usual thriller genre and was pleasantly surprised. The characters were likeable, and I enjoyed their development throughout. Very gritty book balanced by much needed humour. The weather lent this book an edge that otherwise wouldn't have been there. Full of twists with a tense ending.
Just finished some audiopuzzling tonight, there was a huge storm today & we had a blackout for a few hours so the wifi was down. Cold Granite is the first Logan McCrae book, read by Kenny Blyth it's a very gritty Scottish crime series in the Rebus mild, but with more humour. I loved the story & the narrator was fabulous. A very Aberdeen accent, I could've listened to him recite the phone book and been happy. Highly recommended.
Getting in a few more chapters of Cold Granite on audio. Definitely matches the grey day outside, though it's still muggy & uncomfortable. I wish autumn would hurry up & stick around, I've had enough of sweating! #gobobgo #scottishweatherwithoutthekilts
Still on bed rest so I'm lying here on this rainy gloomy Sunday noon, listening to a grim Scottish crime thriller. Great story, and an awesome narrator with a brilliant Scottish accent. And here comes the rain again!🌧🌧🌧🌧
