Pickpick

There are a lot more books in this series, but this is the last one by original author Julie Campbell. The Bob-Whites meet some new kids at the end of this one and we get a very quick version of the highlights of the series so far. It felt like a nice send off for and from Campbell. #bobwhitebuddies

Pickpick

I think this is my softest pick out of the Trixie books we've reread so far. The random infodumps seemed kind of out of place. It also felt way more like boys vs. girls instead of everyone working together like they usually do. But I kind of liked the lack of a big mystery - this felt somewhat realistic, with several people having small(ish) problems that the gang was able to address. I really like the way that they pay attention to the people ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont\'d) around them and try to help where they can.

This is the last book in the series written by Campbell, so I\'m interested to see if there is a noticeable writing-style difference in the next book.

Share your thoughts, #BobWhiteBuddies !! What did you think of this one? Any favorite or not-favorite parts?

BookmarkTavern I loved how we got to see the girls especially changing their minds from their initial dislike of the three guests, and adopting all of them. These kids are so kind, and willing to own up when they jump to conclusions about people. But I also love Trixie‘s suspicious nature. 3mo
Read4life Well said @BookmarkTavern . I think this was the last one I read when I was younger so I‘m looking forward to reading the rest for the first time. @TheAromaofBooks I‘m curious to see how/if the writing style changes as well. 3mo

lauraisntwilder Weirdly, I liked the info dumps. They were a little out of place, that's true, but this came out originally in 1958 and I was pleased with how (relatively) respectful this book was, compared to the movies and TV of the time. The language was still dated, of course, but I liked that the kids were interested in Mexican and Native American culture. 3mo
Sparklemn @TheAromaofBooks Just curious about #bobwhitebuddies. Are you reading one per month? I own all but one of the series and have read most several times. I‘d love to join along with your discussions if I may. 3mo
TheAromaofBooks @BookmarkTavern - I loved the way that initially the girls were apprehensive about the \“problem\“ guests, but how they were able to realize that those guests were a problem because they had troubles - and I also loved how those guests each eventually recognized that by choosing to wallow in the their problems instead of enjoying themselves, they were causing extra work and stress to the people around them. I guess there was just a lot of reminders⬇ 3mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont\'d) to think about other people besides yourself, and I liked that as an ongoing lesson. 3mo
TheAromaofBooks @Read4life - It\'s hard to find information on who actually wrote the rest of the series. It appears to be a mix of at least eight different people, but I can\'t find any records linking specific individuals to specific books, at least not for the whole series. Growing up, I just assumed that \“Kathryn Kenny\“ was one person, so it wouldn\'t have even occurred to me to notice if there were differences in writing styles from book to book. 3mo
TheAromaofBooks @lauraisntwilder - I also thought that this book felt a little ahead of its time in regards to having respect for other cultures and recognizing that they had a lot to learn from other people, so in that regard maybe the infodumps make sense, a way for the author to help shed some light to her readers who hadn\'t been exposed to the idea of Native Americans even having a cultural heritage. 3mo
TheAromaofBooks @Sparklemn - Yes!! We are reading one a month and I try to post the discussion post sometime on or around the 30th every month. October\'s book is The Mysterious Code and you are very welcome to join us!! Just let me know if you want to be added to the tag list. We\'re just a group who read and loved Trixie growing up, so we\'re enjoying some reread nostalgia!! 😁 3mo
Sparklemn @TheAromaofBooks I‘d love to be tagged! 3mo

Finished Book 6 last Sunday for #BobWhiteBuddies Trixie & the gang head to the dude ranch Di‘s Uncle Monty owns in Arizona for Christmas vacation & when the family who does the cooking & cleaning on the ranch mysteriously disappears, the Bob Whites take over & help serve the guests. This one is light on the mystery & danger-just finding out about the family & the individual dramas of the people there & helping them⬇️

DebinHawaii … which is kind of nice. First published in 1958, there is of course the dated stereotypes, sexism, etc. of the era it was written which stands out now. How unfamiliar the group was with the food they made & ate was interesting to look at from today‘s lens. “What is guacamole?” … It‘s the ever-present side dish of mashed alligator pears,🥑 tomatoes, onion, and a bit of chili.” This is the 6th & last book written by Julie Campbell & the rest ⬇️ 3mo
DebinHawaii … were written under written by various in-house writers of Western Publishing under the pseudonym Kathryn Kenny. So it will be interesting to see how they begin to differ as we move forward. 3mo
DieAReader 🥳Great! 3mo
TheAromaofBooks I wonder if visiting dude ranches was a more common vacation in the 50s? Nancy Drew went to Arizona as well a couple of books back. This wasn\'t my favorite of the Trixie books we\'ve read so far, but I loved the overall helpful/problem-solving attitude of the gang. 3mo

Christmas on an Arizonadude ranch gets complicated when the staff has disappeared, Trixie volunteers the Bob Whites to fill in, & everyone has secrets.

One of my absolute favorite things about these books is how kind the groups is to the people around them, but also how genuine. Because they do misstep, (they‘re just kids), but they try. I forgot just how often the digs are at Trixie‘s & Di‘s intelligence. & more dated language.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

TheAromaofBooks I love how aware the group is of the people around them - their desire to help everyone else be happy, too, and how often that involves just listening and being willing to help. 3mo

#LitSolace #HyggeReadathon

My #HyggeHour backdrop & book (finishing the tagged for #BobWhiteBuddies )are the as last week but my snack is a Caramel Apple Pie Mini Bundt Cake I picked up at the craft market on Saturday. It‘s delicious & perfectly Fall.🍎🍁

Mood is tired. I‘m a little under-the-weather & not ready for work tomorrow & a leadership retreat Wed-Fri. I‘m also frustrated with the Litsy iPhone app. But cake makes everything better! 😋

DebinHawaii It is not letting me tag people on the post, so here @thebookhippie @alldebooks @chrissyreadit @jenniferw88 (edited) 3mo

#Naturalitsy #HyggeHourReadathon

Trixie Belden for #BobWhiteBuddies & my #HyggeHour with my new seasonal blanket which cost all of $12.99 at Ross. I fell in love with the colors, flowers & Dia de Los Muertos theme. Sure, it‘s 79 degrees F. & 77% humidity at 8 PM & I won‘t be able to crawl under this blanket until late October, it still makes me happy. Drinking cold apple cider & trying cinnamon-flavored KitKats to get in a fall state of mind.🍁⬇️

DebinHawaii … I‘m not pleased it‘s Monday already tomorrow & it‘s another busy week ahead but this hour helps! 🤗 3mo

Found a stack of Trixie Belden in the antique shop yesterday. The smell of old books and the inscriptions in unfamiliar handwriting are intoxicating 😍📚
