England, 1919. In Anna Lee Huber's latest mystery, former Secret Service agent Verity Kent is finding that life after wartime offers its own share of danger . . . The Great War may be over, but for many, there are still obstacles on the home front. Reconciling with her estranged husband makes Verity sympathetic to her friend Ada's marital difficulties. Bourgeois-bred Ada, recently married to the Marquess of Rockham, is overwhelmed trying to navigate the ways of the aristocracy. And when Lord Rockham is discovered shot through the heart with a bullet from Ada's revolver, Verity fears her friend has made a fatal blunder. While striving to prove Ada's innocence, Verity is called upon for another favor. The sister of a former Secret Service colleague has been killed in what authorities believe was a home invasion gone wrong. The victim's war work--censoring letters sent by soldiers from the front--exposed her to sensitive, disturbing material. Verity begins to suspect these two unlikely cases may be linked. But as the connections deepen, the consequences--not just for Verity, but for Britain--grow more menacing than she could have imagined. Praise for Anna Lee Huber's Treacherous Is the Night "A thrilling mystery that supplies its gutsy heroine with plenty of angst-ridden romance." --Kirkus Reviews "A splendid sequel. . . . Huber combines intricate puzzles with affecting human drama." --Publishers Weekly "Masterful. . . . Just when you think the plot will zig, it zags. . . . Deeply enjoyable." --Criminal Element

Finished this one on Saturday on the place ride to Charlotte.

I feel like I need to keep reading this series to see if like Sidney dies and Verity gets with Max. Honestly, Sidney isn‘t my favorite character but I love Verity. I‘m going to continue with this series because I‘m a sucker for historical mysteries!

Finally caught up with reviews!

This was a quick breezy read on my Kindle and a last-minute addition to the BINGO board on a free spot. I loved the interaction of the two MCs. I ❤️ a good mystery with an unlikely detective, a book set in a different era and a story filled with intrigue and moral lessons, so this was definitely up my alley and I am going to have to look into the rest of this series. Also (and I hope this isn‘t cheating) I got BINGO!! 🎉🎉 @TheAromaofBooks ❤️📚🎊

This might not go so well, but I discovered LIBBY and I can borrow digital books from my library 📚 and have them sent to my Kindle (or read right on the app)!! As I need a shake-up I decided to add the tagged book in my free spot. #bookworm #kindle #electroniclibrary #newin 😻😻 @TheAromaofBooks

A day late with this, but we were at Disney World for a couple days, and I‘m just now catching up.

1. Tagged book. I don‘t usually stay up late, so if I can‘t put a book down, it‘s really good!
2. Hmm. The Sisters of Sinai. Not my normal read, but was definitely worth the time.
3. With dust jacket on.

Eggs Thanks for joining in Lynn 💕💕 5y

A murder of a Lord turns out to be much more than expected for Verity, when she's asked to do some investigating by the prime suspect, hey friend and the Lord's wife. I love the cozy mystery genre and Huber is definitely a great author within its realm. I have a fascination with the history of espionage so I hope that that thread continues to be a part of this excellent series as it goes forward.

Dollycas‘s Thoughts

What I really enjoy about this series in the depth of the characters . . .
I found both mysteries to be very interesting.

Excellent book to start off #Litsypartyofone. A complex mystery that‘s solved in the end but leaves some interesting threads hanging for the next installment. A reminder, too, that not all endings are happy. This series gets better with each book. #MrBook1inaMillion

My Kindle and my morning snack of a mandarin. I‘m trying to finish the tagged book, which I‘m really gonna enjoying, while waiting for the cable service technician to show up 😕 Not keeping a #readathon time, because I know I‘m going to spend a lot of the weekend responding to posts. I‘m already enjoying what you all are sharing. #hostpost

I really wasn‘t going to open this until I finish the book I‘d already started, but my fingers didn‘t cooperate when I had my Kindle open, and now I‘m into this and hooked. That‘s my story, at least 😂

Verify and Sidney are definitely growing on me! I also love that they‘re discussing PTSD, survivor‘s guilt, and losing themselves in alcohol to deal with pain and loss: real things that actually happen. And I‘m glad that they continue to bring in people from Ver & Sid‘s past for them to have to deal with.

The latest edition (#3) in the Verity Kent mystery series set in 1919 England in which we find Verity investigating two seemingly non related murders, one of which a friend is implicated in. The plot turns out to be more complex than first thought (surprise!), and we are introduced to a fiendish villain who appears above the law and will no doubt make future appearances. Some familiar faces are back, and I especially enjoyed getting to know 🔽

robinb Sidney (Verity‘s husband) much better and watch as they continue to strive to heal themselves while rebuilding their marriage. Another great addition to the series! 4/5⭐️ #KensingtonBooks #NetGalley (edited) 5y
Crazeedi Sounds like an interesting series 5y
robinb @Crazeedi It‘s a favorite, along with her Lady Darby series. ❤️ 5y

AlaMich When I saw that cover, the first thing I thought was Maisie Dobbs. Same sort of artwork. 5y
robinb @AlaMich Yes! There seem to be quite a few historical mystery series that are using similar art themes. I love the covers! 5y
