Conference of the Birds
Conference of the Birds | Ransom Riggs
"Do you trust me?" An instant bestseller, A Map of Days launched readers into the previously unexplored world of American peculiars, one bursting with new questions, new allies, and new adversaries. Now, with enemies behind him and the unknown ahead, Jacob Portman's story continues as he takes a brave leap forward into The Conference of the Birds, the next installment of the beloved, bestselling Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series.

֍ OMG! WHAT A CLIFFHANGER! I love the adventures! The character development! It never disappoint me. The unexpected suspense! Eventhough, I felt that Riggs lost the inspiration of writing this, compared to the previous books. I know that I'll read the next book. BUT, with low expectations. lol⁣⁣

Book 42👂🏻🎵
Ooooooo! This one ended on such a cliffhanger!
I can‘t believe there is just one book left 😭
The story has definitely changed in tone from the first few books but I still really enjoy it!

This one picks up where A Map Of Days left off, so being able to continue the adventure right away was great, and overall I do really enjoy the series. However, it appears that there may be a sixth book and I personally hope that it will be the last. Unless something spectacular happens, I feel that the peculiars have run their course. This book was still a nice read, but I did not find it as exciting as its predecessors. (Completed 10th Jan 2021)

I loved the Peculiars from the beginning. The first 3 books were great, book 4 was meh, this one book 5 was more than meh but not great. I know there will be at least 1 more book and then honestly I hope Ransom Riggs finds a new story and ends the Peculiars. It‘s feeling forced and really contrived.
Miss Peregrine and her Peculiars have had a great run but it‘s time for them to retire.

KatieDid927 I didn‘t like book 4 and bailed on the series altogether after it. I personally feel like he should‘ve stopped at 3. 5y
OrangeMooseReads @KatieDid927 it should have stopped at 3. If it goes beyond a book 6 I‘ll be done with the series unless he somehow does something spectacular 5y
WormForWords I must agree. It seems as though there will be a sixth book, but I do hope that it will be the last. I felt quite irked by Jacob in the last two books. I think the peculiars have run their course and I‘d love Riggs to end the series before running it into the ground. 4y
OrangeMooseReads @WormForWords Jacob has gotten incredibly irritating. They have and I want Riggs to end it on a high too. 4y

"Why are you guys so sure I can do this?" I said, struggling to hide my frustration.
"Because you're Jacob." Emma shrugged.
"I never said you could do it," Enoch said. "But it sounded more interesting than bookmarking atlases with Millard all day."

Who else read this book? Did you enjoy it?

wildwoodreads I did! I really enjoyed it! 5y

I know there are mixed thoughts on this series, with others thinking books 3-5 are showing the series is getting worse. For myself, however, I am very much enjoying the series, and loved this book. The twists Riggs creates are ones I would have never guessed, and still has held my interest. My Rec: keep on reading the series! Give it a try :)

Snacks and books go great together. What are some your favorites?

Patchshank I don't really like to eat while I read. I usually forget about the food and just focus on the book. That is a good puppy chow recipe though. 5y
Mrs_B I love your tea set. So pretty! 5y

Book 5 of the Peculiar Children series. Not sure if it‘s me or the book, but this one felt too similar to past installments. A bit phoned in. Or maybe the series has just run its course for me. Not sure.

The audio did make me think of a twist on this series. Since “wights” are the enemy and it sounds just like “whites,” I wonder if the author is intentionally making statements about race. It almost makes me want to reread. 🤔

Mrs_B Oh interesting twist on the wights... hadn‘t thought about that. 5y
Geenie So sorry to hear this. I‘m on book one now and I plan to read it. 😐 5y
Hooked_on_books @Yoshi-and-a-book Book 1 is great. Then with book 2 and 3 I really liked one and thought the other was just ok, but I don‘t remember which was which. I loved book 4, which took things in a really different direction and injected new life into the series. I definitely think the series is worth reading. 5y

This is what happens when you no longer have a bookstore. You miss out on awesomeness!

Chrissyreadit What happened to your bookstore? 5y
BethM @Chrissyreadit meijer was in talks to buy the building so they kicked everyone out. It‘s been a year and meijer still hasn‘t finalized the deal. 5y

After the bore that was 'Map of Days' I wasn't really sure I wanted to continue this series. 'Conference...' starts out with action and continues nonstop. We're met by Peculiars, travel to new Loops, and discover that the fate of the world is still unsure.

This had all the best parts of the first three Peculiar books. And while I feel like the photographs are an afterthought at this point, I'm glad I took a chance and continued the series.

emz711 Ooo I've been thinking of stopping as well but you might convince me to continue 5y
Palimpsest Thanks for the review. I didn‘t care for Map of Days after loving the first book and only liking the second. I think I‘ll give this a try thanks to you! 5y
KatieDid927 I agree with @emz711. I kinda hated book 4, and had decided I‘d quit, buuut now you‘re making me rethink that! 5y

And we have a cover for Book 5. And they have gone back to the black and white from the gold yellow of Book 4.

Out January 14, 2020
#Coverlove #YAedition

tjwill I loved the first one so much, but I lost interest during book 3, so I never finished it or bought book 4. Did you like 4? 5y
LibrarianRyan @tjwill haven‘t gotten there yet. My guy took my copies 5y
GondorGirl @tjwill I lost interest at book three as well. Book four started out the same (Zzzzz), but it ended in a place that felt much more like the first book. I'm going to give five a chance to see if the positive momentum continues. 5y
