Filthy Rich
Filthy Rich: A Powerful Billionaire, the Sex Scandal that Undid Him, and All the Justice that Money Can Buy: the Shocking True Story of Jeffrey Epstein | James Patterson
"Jeffrey Epstein rose from humble origins to the rarefied heights of New York City's financial elite. A college dropout with an instinct for numbers--and for people--Epstein amassed his wealth through a combination of access and skill. But even after he had it all, Epstein wanted more. And that unceasing desire--especially a taste for young girls--resulted in his stunning fall from grace. From Epstein himself, to the girls he employed as masseuses at his home, to the cops investigating the appalling charges against him, Filthy Rich examines all sides of a case that scandalized one of America's richest communities."--Amazon.com.

Have y‘all seen this today? James Patterson is claiming racism?????? As we say in the South, “What the hail?” 😡.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10908853/Novelist-James-Patterson-cla...

5feet.of.fury So ridiculous. I know he owns an imprint too, which features (anecdotally, I have not actually run the numbers but every book I‘ve come across under the imprint is a white woman) plenty of white authors. I guess his comments were specifically about writing for “Hollywood” but it‘s still so inaccurate. The number decreasing from 100% white men does not mean it is racism. 😡 2y
5feet.of.fury Maybe it wasn‘t about Hollywood, I think the headline I read was fudged. Anyway, how dare he drag Dolly into these shenanigans. 2y
BethM Just 🤦‍♀️ 2y

Blerdgal_Fenix I do not mess with James Patterson anymore. Just stopped getting his books & stopped respecting him after that. 2y
marleed Well, it is racism - his own. This is a clear example of fearing minority voices will lessen the power of white privileged men. …I guess I‘ve read my last JP. 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I have always gotten a cringey vibe from him and am A-OK if I never read one of his books. I get annoyed when 1.5 bookcases at a store are just for his books. 2y

Spent most of today #podcastjournaling I‘ve joined so many reading challenges this year, if I don‘t #bujo it I‘ll confuse the crap out of myself! I‘m definitely no artist, but I try. Still have at least ten more to chart but at least I‘m over half done. Been listening to this podcast about Jeffrey Epstein, even though it‘s making my head explode with what he got away with because money. Disgusting.

This is sort of fascinating. Like looking at a car crash. One they're trying to clean up during rush hour. But I expected it to be as awesome as the one about Aaron Hernandez. And it wasn't even close. I must say, though, regarding Epstein, if Trump is questioning your actions, which it seems like he did because he banned him from his resort well before this all blew up, it's time to do some reevaluation.

eanderson Ugh, the whole Epstein thing fascinates me and disgusts me at the same time. He made my skin crawl in a documentary I watched about him. 4y

3.5 ⭐️‘s. Started watching the Netflix show, realized it was a book so stopped and read the book in two days. Went in hoping it was as good as Ronan Farrow‘s. It‘s not, BUT Patterson can make the vaguest facts interesting. Will probably finish the Netflix series. If you‘re into true crime salaciousness then this is for you. It reads super quick!

More of a salacious tale than any kind of investigative narrative. Jeffrey Epstein was just a terrible individual who used his wealth, intellect and power in all the wrong ways. I was hoping to learn more about his questionable death, however the book was written & published before the suicide occurred. I would skip this one. 👇🏼

BarbaraBB That is clear. No need to read! 5y
Cinfhen I would have stopped listening but it wasn‘t that long @BarbaraBB and I wanted that #pop20 prompt completed 5y

Cinfhen I agree @arlenefinnigan Epstein was a real life monster. 5y
arlenefinnigan @Cinfhen the fact that he's gonna die in prison has been the only good news this year. 5y
Cinfhen Oh wait/ you are talking about Harvey Weinstein and I‘m referring to Jeffrey Epstein @arlenefinnigan BOTH are deplorable human beings 5y

This was a great read as much as I dislike Epstein!! He is a predator and this book will make you angry at what he and a bunch of elite men and women got away with! I can only hope that justice will be served for the sake of all the young girls that were involved in his sick world!

#20by2020 My first finish for this Challenge. This is a well researched and written book about Jeffery Epstein, mostly in the Palm Beach area. A timely read and would recommend it if you are interested. So much wrong with this case. So much.

audraelizabeth I had a similar reaction when I read the book about the Michael Vick investigation. 5y

This was an amazing faster read than I expected. Being that I don't pay attention to the News, I had no idea it was based on true story. Loved it!

Just finished this one while sitting at my son‘s swim meet. It was a fascinating look at the sex scandal Jeffrey Epstein was involved in.

Crazeedi He should have been put away for life, imo 6y
AmyG He knows powerful people, so he gets away with everything. @Crazeedi Agreed! 6y
Crazeedi @AmyG yes I read an article or listened to a podcast on the deal that was made for him, outrageous. Lady justice is not blind and it's very sad. This man should never walk a street again 6y

Filthy Rich was a very interesting & insightful read..

I'd heard his name before reading this but couldn't remember for why..

I did find it hard to read, due to the topic & the anger & frustration that came with it.. But it was very well written.. 4/5..

Trying to squish some reading in while my son plays on his xbox..

I've just read about Jeffrey Epsteins connection to Stephen Hawking..

I have shed a few tears for the genius that was Stephen Hawking already today.. I've admired him & his work for years..

May he Rest In Peace.. ☹️

35% in now.. It is well written and very interesting.. Taking a break from the hard to read stuff and focusing on who Jeffrey Epstein actually is.. I may be able to get through this part without too many breaks.. 😂

My next read.. 😃

I don't know much at all about this Jeffery Epstein dude..

I recognised the name, guessing from the title of this book it was probably through the news media..

True crime book about Jeffrey Epstein and the child exploitation and sexual assualt charges against him. Writing aside, I rated this highly because of the amount of detail in the book, including legal documents and interviews. It's sickening what the extremely wealthy can get away with; sadly we need books like these to expose it. Definitely need a strong stomach to read.

Another good and fast read. I am shocked at what I learned about this man. However I feel like a lot of details are missing. Mostly about his very rich and powerful associates. I feel there is a lot more that went on that was not in the book for reasons that would ruin a lot of lives. The sentence Mr. Epstein got was unfair and criminal. Those involved should be ashamed of the injustice. The rich and powerful always get away with their crimes.

I had never read true crime before, but this one really caught my attention. How can a man take advantage of young girls? How did he do so for so long? Lastly, how did he spend so little time in jail? This book goes over all of this with pieces of interviews and chapters rehashing what happened. I really liked it, though I will say some of it was hard to handle.

quote
Garabrandtreviews

“We did some level of further inquiry, and we were of the belief that they were all adults. And [we] were also of the belief that there was a possibility that there could be prostitution. But I mean that‘s just not something that we heavily pursued— prostitution in private residences; it‘s common everywhere in America. We didn‘t believe that they were underage at that point, and so we had no further interest in it.”
