The Three
The Three: A Novel | Sarah Lotz
Four simultaneous plane crashes. Three child survivors. A religious fanatic who insists the three are harbingers of the apocalypse. What if he's right? The world is stunned when four commuter planes crash within hours of each other on different continents. Facing global panic, officials are under pressure to find the causes. With terrorist attacks and environmental factors ruled out, there doesn't appear to be a correlation between the crashes, except that in three of the four air disasters a child survivor is found in the wreckage.Dubbed 'The Three' by the international press, the children all exhibit disturbing behavioural problems, presumably caused by the horror they lived through and the unrelenting press attention. This attention becomes more than just intrusive when a rapture cult led by a charismatic evangelical minister insists that the survivors are three of the four harbingers of the apocalypse. The Three are forced to go into hiding, but as the children's behaviour becomes increasingly disturbing, even their guardians begin to question their miraculous survival...

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

October was an unexpectedly good reading month for me.

I finished 4 books on my #BookSpinBingo board; including my #BookSpin book (The Three) and my #DoubleSpin (The Vanishing Point).
I also read another 4 random books. (Halfway with the fifth.) So I earned myself a BINGO this month 🎊

I LOOOOVE THIS BOOK AAAH! I‘ve read it three times (!) already and honestly I could read much more! It‘s so intriguing and captivating. Not to say addicting too! I love the style (I wish Day Four was the same format but unfortunately it‘s not 😭) and how the history grows from something mysterious to something cryptic and scary. Recommend 100%

The Three doesn‘t involve just one #airplane crash, but four simultaneous crashes with a total of three survivors, all children! This book sounds so creepy and I am really looking forward to reading it but I was disappointed to discover it was number one in a series. I want this story to tie up all loose ends in one book!

Has anyone read this one?

OriginalCyn620 Sounds good! I‘m not much of a series girl though! ✈️ 5y
vivastory I've read this one & the second. Honestly I feel like you don't need to read the second book. The first one is fantastic & the second is a pretty big disappointment. 5y
abookishbutterfly @vivastory Good to know! Thanks! 5y

Not the best recommendation book my niece gave me.... "Four simultaneous plane crashes. Three child survivors. A religious fanatic who insists "The Three" are harbingers of the apocalypse. What if he's right?"

So the book was what I was expecting in both a good way and a bad way. The positives was that there was a good scope and range of reactions to the plane crashes and the survivors including conspiracy theories. The cons was that it felt hard to get back into if you were reading it bit by bit and it felt harder remembering which account was related to one of The Three. Still Id say go for it and read it but taking a break before I tackle the sequel.

There are four different plane crashes on the same day at the same time. There are 3 survivors, all children. Thanks to a recording on a cellphone, conspiracy theories are born along with a cult believing the kids are the harbingers of doom. Panic descends on this #Madworld. One of those creepy books where you could see the consequences being played out in the real world. Very scary.

Cinfhen Sounds good! I wonder why the low rating??? I'm stacking, in @Reggie I trust! 8y
EricQiao Sounds a bit like Dean Koontz's Sole Survivor--one of my favorite Dean Koontz books. 8y
Sue Oooh, sounds super creepy! 8y

Cinfhen @EricQiao sole survivor sounds good too! I've never read Dean Koontz, is this a good one to try first?!? 8y
TrishB Good book & usual great review 😀 8y
Reviewsbylola I've had this on my TBR forever! 8y
Reggie @EricQiao My favorite Koontz is Twilight Eyes. I've never read Sole Survivor. I havent read him in a long, long, time. 8y
Reggie @Sue It is!!!!!! 8y
EricQiao @Cinfhen Ergh, Dean Koontz is an acquired taste. Majority of his books are just awful. Usually from the second half his story starts to lose steam. His target audience are air travelers, thus best read on a plane. That said Sole Survivor is one of his early works (before he became uber prolific). I'd say read at your own risk. If you're asking for my recommendation, I do however, recommend my own novel. 😝 8y
EricQiao @Reggie I haven't read him in a long ass time as well. He seems to pump out disappointment after disappointment. 8y
Cinfhen Your book sounds excellent @EricQiao I've stacked it! And thanks for the feedback on Koontz~ I'm gonna take a pass for now 8y

First book of the 119 I read in 2016 and I found it to be very 'twilight zonish' which is a good thing. It's the first of a trilogy and l'm very partial to this genre of 'what's really going on?'

Is it real life, is it fiction or has Sarah Lotz written something so unbelievably amazing, awesome and captivating that it's left to the reader to decide for themselves? It is a chilling novel full of notions and governmental conspiracies that had me sitting at times completely oblivious to anything around me as I was staring in to space contemplating the 'what if?'

The best bit was the ending and even then, it was unsatisfactory. I think I want to know more but I'm unwilling to spend time on another book that only teases you with half story half measures. I shouldn't start trilogies.
