Aimeesue 8. Last Book I had to Replace: I guess that will be Riddley Walker (edited) 6mo
Aimeesue 9. Last Book I Argued Over: I don‘t really argue over books, so that is lost to the mists of time. 6mo
Aimeesue 10. Last Book I Couldn‘t Find: I know where all my books are, so the only books I can‘t find are the ones my library hasn‘t acquired yet or that there‘s a wait list for, so maybe You Like it Darker? I think that‘s the last hold I placed. (edited) 6mo

vivastory Rebecca 💙 Riddley Walker is on my TBR., I loved Hoban's Turtle Diary. I also have Everett's “James“ is waiting on my shelves. I'm curious, are you going to revisit Huck Finn beforehand? I can't wait to read the new King, but plan on reading this King story collection beforehand (edited) 6mo
Aimeesue @vivastoryDef going to re- read Huck Finn before James. Everett tucks a lot of references into his books, and I don‘t want to miss them. I love, love, love Riddley Walker for the language - such a thrill when you GET it! Any King is good King as far as I‘m concerned. Love his shorter stuff! (edited) 6mo
vivastory @Aimeesue I am a bit tempted to revisit Huck Finn. I remember when I read it in middle school that I did not care for it, but I have since read other Twain writings & really enjoyed them esp. 6mo
Aimeesue @vivastory Twain was so witty! I enjoy his stuff. Everett said that he read HF fifteen times in a row before writing James. And now he will never pick it up again 😂 6mo
Tamra I‘m so enjoying Secret Voices! 6mo
Aimeesue @Tamra it‘s really excellent! 5mo

Do you suffer from bibliomania? John W. Doull does — and his Dartmouth bookstore proves it - by Andrew Sampson on the CBC News website: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/john-w-doull-bookseller-profile-1.691...

Leftcoastzen I would probably want something near the bottom of the teetering stacks on the floor ! Possibly leading me to accidentally knocking it over and owner would kick me out!📚📚📚📚📚😄 9mo

Ok this may not be #Top10Summer2023 I decided to pick my top 5 as I didn‘t read nearly as many books this summer as I usually do. Life happens. The list and the tag from @batsy helped me decide to revisit what I read. All top notch in my humble opinion .😄

batsy Thank you for sharing! Great list and quality over quantity. Dr. Thorne was so close to making my list, too. I love being immersed in a Trollope book. 1y
Cinfhen Thanks for sharing!! The Springsteen book sounds like something I NEED to read!! 1y

#bookhaul
I let out a subdued squeal when I saw The Analog Sea Review No. 4. I always find so many new ideas and new (to me) writers, plus the lovely reproductions of artworks 😍📖
I took in a sharp breath when I saw The Jewish Problem, but fortunately it's written by a Jewish man, the problem being that which Jews have with anti-Semitism. Written in 1938, directly addressing the Nazi rise to power just prior to WWII.

Dilara I took in a sharp breath too when I saw the title - good to know it's not what I feared it was! 2y
Bookwomble @Dilara I know, right?! I had to give a little explanation so that nobody got the wrong idea! The author says that it would more accurately be called The Gentile Problem, as anti-Semitism is seated in the oppressor, not the oppressed. 2y
Dilara @Bookwomble And yet, they went with the inacurate but eye-catching title... 2y

Bookwomble @Dilara Well, I guess that at a time when anti-Semitism was promoted by the mainstream press & by the Royal Family, insofar as they supported and entertained prominent Nazis, he went with the title most likely to lead British people to picking up his book. It has a brief history of pre-20th century anti-Semitism, then an analysis of the extremes to which the Nazis were taking it, essentially predicting their "Final Solution" prior to the Holocaust 2y
Dilara @Bookwomble I'll have to look for this book. 2y

"My intention to buy fewer books and downsize my personal library" Vs. "Me returning library books with the conscious intention of visiting the bookshop nextdoor and buying more books" ??‍?

AshleyHoss820 Our local bookstore moved in right across the street from the library and BOY is that short walk over easy to justify…☺️😁📚 2y
Aimeesue Oh, the struggle! 2y
DivineDiana It definitely takes strong willpower to resist! 2y

Bookwomble @AshleyHoss820 Excellent marketing strategy 😁 2y
Bookwomble @Aimeesue To be honest, I don't struggle that much. I wish I did 😄 2y
Bookwomble @DivineDiana Explain this "willpower" to me, please ? 2y
DivineDiana I have a strong desire to own “all the books”, but realistically, I don‘t have the space. So, I have to continually resist the urge to buy another book, invoking the power of my mind. (edited) 2y
Bookwomble @DivineDiana I expect my obituary to read something like, "He was found crushed to death beneath a 12-foot pile of unread books, which toppled over when he tried to remove the one at the bottom. He died peacefully, and his grieving family say they take comfort from knowing it was how he would have wanted to go." ?? 2y
rwmg @AshleyHoss820 gotta get those daily steps in somehow 2y
DivineDiana @Bookwomble I just might borrow that one for my own! 🤣 2y

"All those books you haven't read are indeed a sign of your ignorance. But if you know how ignorant you are, you're way ahead of the vast majority of other people."
