Lisa Hanawalt wins the day at awkward humor. Disclaimer: This image is actually from I Want You #1, which is out of print now but which I used to bring along on first dates as a sort of litmus test for tolerance of awkwardness.

pick"North American Wildlife, And Hats" from Lisa Hanawalt's My Dumb Dirty Eyes. If you haven't heard her name before, she's the illustrator, production designer and producer behind BoJack Horseman. This book is an anthology of some of her comics, random doodles, musings, visual puns, autobiographical anecdotes and illustrated movie reviews. It's vulgar, absurd, really fun to page through, but dangerously addictive. ?
so-soWell this is a special brand of zany! I enjoyed her critiques on pop culture and random asides, but there were a few comics I just didn't get. If you like silly, snarky, and just plain weird comics, this will be right up your alley.
