This is my #booked2022 total option seeing as I have had it on my kindle for forever. I enjoyed this one but didn‘t love it As much as the first in the series. Elinor of Aquitaine is one my favourite women of British history and I would have liked her to be more in this book

I‘ve only ever had the paperback version of this one (blue cover) for some reason. Hubby brought me a hard back this week 😊

Henry II was a great #believer in keeping the decision making of Church and State separate and also in loyalty and friendships.
Thomas Beckett let him down on both fronts and paid with his life.

And birthday loot from my dad! Hmm, funny, you say, how I've already reviewed two of these books...Well, if books are not wrapped, they must be meant to be read! 📚Besides my dad knew it was dicey sending me birthday books over a 4 day weekend. 😉Miss Annabel Lee approves of my loot. #CatsofLitsy.

This book was quite a slow starter for me, but then once all the key characters were introduced this book had me totally hooked. The part of the story involving Thomas Becket and Henry was about the most detailed I have seen in any book, and to be fair Thomas really annoyed me, so I can see how he got to Henry. They seemed destined to destroy each other! Overall loved book and especially the story around Ranulf. Definitely Recommend. Onto book 3!

Making a start on Time and Chance. Time for a fix of Eleanor of Aquitaine and her tempestuous marriage to Henry II. Usually expect a great read from Sharon Penman.

Love historical royal British novels up to 1485, then my interest wanes a few centuries- these are my favourite family though...Henry II and Eleanor and their offspring. Just ordered Time and Chance in hardback so they match.....booknerd problems!

I didn't like this as much as her first, when Christ and his saints slept but she does a masterful job of bringing this time period to life.

Their other children have been fair, John's dark hair came as a surprise, therefore, to his father. Our first black sheep, he said softly. He looks like you, Eleanor.

Although I'm not sure if confrontation is the right term for it. She said not a word to the little bitch, not a word! And since then, she has refused to talk about it at all. I have never seen Eleanor like this, never she is wroth, the whole world knows it.
