I just finished this but I wish I had another one 😢 They've been such a comfort. My ex-husband is starting radiation therapy tomorrow and my girls can't see him for at least 22 days. I've gotten very used to my divorced life and my week off in which I work extra hard at my job and get a bit more exercise and sleep. I already don't read that much but seeing even less happening the next week. What lies ahead for us all, nobody knows.

TheBookgeekFrau I get you. When my daughter and granddaughter moved in after her divorce, we all looked forward to that off week. Then her ex went back into the army and we only got an off day and a half😣 Sending🙏🏼for the best outcome for you all🧡 2w
Dilara Sending you force for the next 3 weeks then... 2w
MommyWantsToReadHerBook @Dilara and @TheBookgeekFrau thank you so much 💜💜💜💜💜 2w
JacqMac That‘s so hard. I hope you find a new peaceful flow. 2w

Maisie returns to her childhood neighborhood to investigate the death of Eddie, a simple man with a gift for caring for horses. This one is more about Maisie's personal growth than a murder plot. She's working through her need for control, struggle to feel worthy of her unexpected wealth, & desire for independence. I love the character-driven story, so it worked for me. Hints of the war to come are starting to take centerstage in the story.

1933. A time of political uncertainty. Maisie investigates the murder of Eddie Pettit, renowned for his magical, “horse whisper” effects on horses. She encounters London costermongers(fruit & veg sellers), a powerless W.Churchill, a greedy press baron, - suddenly Eddie‘s murder is part of a pattern of subterfuge on a national scale. How does Eddie‘s death impact this?
Maisie is also struggling with her grief over Maurice‘s death, & the fear🔽

kspenmoll 🔼 & responsibility of inheriting his vast fortune. In addition, she & James try to be true to them selves, & at the same time have a relationship in an uncertain world. #serieslove2023 (edited) 1y

The book had me from the prologue with the birth of Eddie. (I‘ve been reading this series in order, but somehow missed the book before this. Although I discovered the mixup early on, I wasn‘t willing to let go of this book till I discovered all that happened to Eddie.) Maisie is maturing in her character and it‘s enjoyable watching history unfold in her life. Eddie was a surprising man who influenced those around him.

This is my least favorite Maisie Dobbs book so far. The mystery isn‘t that compelling; instead we get a lot of information about Maisie‘s personal life. The solution to the less-than-compelling mystery feels both rushed and unfinished. Still, any Maisie Dobbs book, even when it‘s only adequate, is better than tons of other mysteries out there, so this is still a pick — just on the lower end of the scale.

Another solid addition to the Maisie Dobbs series. This one focuses on the media in England in the early months after Hitler rose to power in Germany and how some people with classified knowledge began to take steps to prepare for what they believed to be a coming war. What is the media‘s role in molding public opinion? Does preparing for war make war inevitable? These are questions Maisie grapples with as she investigates 3 inter-related murders.

Read this earlier this year but never did write a review. This was another great book in the Maisie Dobbs Series, but yet to find one in the series I didn‘t love. This one was good one for learning a bit more about Maisie‘s early life. Things don‘t seem good in her personal relationship though. If you can‘t tell 😂 I fully recommend this series.

Reviewsbylola I‘ve always been curious about this series so I‘m glad to see your endorsement! 6y
Andrew65 @Reviewsbylola I love them, as does my wife and @Lmstraubie 6y
minkyb @Reviewsbylola I endorse this series too! 6y

Lmstraubie @Reviewsbylola Thanks to @andrew65 's recommendation I binged the whole series and then regretted it because now I miss the characters soooo much! I'm looking forward to the next book. I love the mix of historical fiction and mystery. 6y
Andrew65 @Lmstraubie That‘s the problem with great series, so many series I am Impatiently waiting for the next book! I still have 4 Maisie books to go. 6y
Lmstraubie @Andrew65 Take your time 😉 I have to look to see when the next one is due to be out. 6y
Andrew65 @Lmstraubie March in the U.K., looks like the last few have all been published in March. 6y
Lmstraubie @andrew65 Good to know, I'll have to check for the US release, although it could be as much as a year later 😣 6y
Andrew65 @Lmstraubie That‘s not good! 🤬 6y
Reviewsbylola Which title is the first book? @andrew65 @Lmstraubie 6y
Lmstraubie @Reviewsbylola This is one series that probably should be read in order because it progresses through Maisie's life. I accidentally read one out of order and there were some things that didn't make sense until I went back. @andrew65 Would you agree? 6y
Andrew65 @Lmstraubie Yes there are some series that it doesn‘t really matter, but this one is so character driven that I feel you do need to read them in order to get the most out of them. @Reviewsbylola 6y
Reviewsbylola Yes I am pretty rigid when it comes to reading series in order! @Lmstraubie @andrew65 6y

Book # 9 in the Maisie Dobbs series. This mystery came quite close to home for Maisie. A member of the community she grew up in has been murdered but his murder leads her to discovering a whole underground world she‘s not quite ready for. You can definitely feel how the whole British community is really taking notice to the new German Chancellor...Hitler. These books never disappoint, can‘t wait for the next book!

SheReadsAndWrites I‘m beyond excited to find out there are so many books in this series! 😃 I‘m reading book 2 right now. 7y
SassyBookworm @shereadsandwrites Yes book #13 is coming out at the end of March! I already have it on hold for me on the #Libby app! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! Also, if you love Maisie Dobbs check out the Maggie Hope series by Susan Elia MacNeal! I love that series too!! (edited) 7y

Ah, Maisie Dobbs time again. I find this series so satisfying and the audiobooks are very well done. There is something wonderful about a female detective- smart, independent and living a riskier life that I can enjoy from the comfort of my couch. I especially like the introspection of her character, the backdrop of the war, and her independence and stubbornness in refusing to settle for a man who would take her off her path. She's great.
