This was a very moving read. I couldn‘t do this kind of work - or anything near it - and I have the utmost respect for those who do. Glad I finished this despite a lot of tears!

I keep reading this in public and then wondering why I‘m blubbering. The first half was alright but I must say the second half is really getting to me. Alright, I guess I will have to finish this at home! A good read though.

This was a fascinating read but I think it suffered slightly from not being as funny as Adam Kay‘s books and, for me anyway, not as heart wrenching as Dear Life.
Each chapter was on a different subject so I think that made it a bit choppy and didn‘t help with the flow of the book.
Still, it makes me grateful for all of our #covidheroes and just affirms that I couldn‘t do a job like this in a million years!

@Eggbeater @MidnightBookGirl @kimmypete1 Thanks for the short readathon. 😘
This is a fantastic book. She has such compassion and straight talking woman about being a nurse and all that comes with it, even what they are expected to do when short staffed, lack of equipment and underpaid, they do preform miracles. I for one am glad to have the NHS with all its brilliant nurses. 9 hours audio over one shift. #anywayyoureadathon @Eggbeater @kimmypete1

A memoir of the author‘s 20 years as a nurse.
As an aside, she quit nursing to become a full-time writer, but was one of many who returned to front-line nursing as part of the fight against Covid-19.

Took me a few chapters to get into this, but it ultimately proved to be a thoughtful, beautifully written memoir on 20 years in nursing.
Emotional, honest and inspiring.
Wow, wow, wow. What an incredibly moving, thought-provoking read, especially at a time of global health crisis. Christie Watson was a registered nurse working for the NHS for twenty years and this book charts her experiences on the front line.
I was under no illusions about the physical and emotional nature of nursing, but until I read this, I realise I actually knew nothing at all.
“The Language of Kindness” is an intimate look at Christie Watson‘s time working as a nurse for the NHS. I enjoyed this story for the most part, but I don‘t feel that the writing style has really done this memoir justice – it‘s 3 stars from me.
My full review is up on my blog now 📚
Starting a new book before soccer starts
I enjoyed this book. As a nurse I could relate and I liked that she had similar experiences. The last few chapters were heart breaking. I just didn't enjoy the way it was written. I find it like reading an essay with references in and that just spoilt it for me a bit. I would still recommend it though
It is when you no longer feel pain that you suffer the worst injuries.

You know how some would say, if you don't feel it for the book you can choose to put it down. After reading 3 chapters of the book, I was ready to put it down but something kept telling me to continue reading. I am glad that I did it. Some parts were abit too much for me because I tend to visualise what I read. But the thin line between life and death and the fragility of life itself can be felt through out the book. Do give it a try. :-)
Interesting memoir of how she became a nurse, along with tails of training and interactions with patients, doctors, other nurses, and families.
Christie Watson has spent 20 years being a nurse in England's healthcare system. In this intimate portrait of her career she shares what it means to be a nurse. We start her journey with her on her first day of training. Describing the ins and outs of the hospital. Experiencing life and death in each of these wards. She describes patients she has cared for. And captures what it truly takes to do her job.

Thank you @PenguinRandomCa for sending me this memoir! I love a good memoir! Out Now!
Christie Watson was a nurse for twenty years. Taking us from birth to death and from A and E to the mortuary, The Language of Kindness is an astonishing account of a profession defined by acts of care, compassion and kindness.
