We read this beautiful novel by Louise Erdrich, and everyone gave it a 9 - very high praise, and well-deserved. Erdrich writes richly crafted stories and her characters feel so real and this book is no different. She has created a stunning portrait of a small midwestern town, studded with memorable characters who will both break your heart and make it soar. Just read it. I‘m amazed at Erdrich‘s capabilities.

While I would say many of Louise Erdrich's books are arguably too rural or too urban to fall into a small town setting, she does occasionally feature Argus, North Dakota, as a locatiob for her complex web of characters. I have been working on her books for the past decade, reading in loosely chronological order of publication. Winter is my favorite time of year to read her, and honestly that's what I look forward to most about the season. 😊
