Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies
Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies | Lindsay Ribar
25 posts | 19 read | 96 to read
A paranormal suspense novel about a boy who can reach inside people and steal their innermost things--fears, memories, scars, even love--and his family's secret ritual that for centuries has kept the cliff above their small town from collapsing. Aspen Quick has never really worried about how he's affecting people when he steals from them. But this summer he'll discover just how strong the Quick family magic is--and how far they'll go to keep their secrets safe. With a smart, arrogant protagonist, a sinister family tradition, and an ending you won't see coming, this is a fast-paced, twisty story about power, addiction, and deciding what kind of person you want to be, in a family that has the ability to control everything you are.

Aspen quick has a special ability, he can reach into someone and steal their innermost things like fears, memories, and scars. A ancient old family magic that Aspen doesn‘t completely understand.

This book was ok. I liked the paranormal part of it but didn‘t really connect with Aspen. I wish we would gotten more of his interactions with his friends after they found out.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

ReadingRover That‘s too bad. This has been on my TBR for a while now. I‘ll probably try it on audiobook. 7y

To the southwest was the Hill, a weird lump of land that looked like it had once wanted to grow up and be a real mountain, but had forgotten to eat its vegetables along the way.

An interesting story about family and choices with magic intertwined. I think it was a pretty good story about struggling with decisions.

#blameitonLitsy 🙈 well now, how did these books arrive in my mailbox?

(Actually, Vicarious might have been from the Unshelved book club - I love their reviews! It's a nice little bonus after reading the weeks Unshelved comics) #somethingforsept

Carol Unshelved FTW!! 🙌😍 8y

This was totally awesome. Aspen is part of a magical family. They can reach into other people and take things - thoughts, feelings and even physical aspects of the person. They perform regular rituals to appease the cliff so it won't fall down and wipe out the town below - at least that is what Aspen has always been told. Then Aspen learns there is something a lot more sinister going on. Great characters with plenty of snark!

Zelma Sounds interesting! 8y
BlogginBoutBooks I wanted to like this more than I actually did. Glad you enjoyed it! 8y

This has moved from an interesting story of morality into a really scathing social commentary. Awesome!

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Excellent! I impulse bought this after seeing it on Litsy a couple of week ago (hoping to read it soon! 8y

Monthly recap. Not so great. Definitely room for improvement. I read nothing super stellar, but liked the Seanan Maguire Velveteen book a lot for all the issues it explored. #Augustofpages #bookphotochallenge Day 31

I've known Lindsay for years, full disclosure! I loved her two other books, but was very mixed about this one because I couldn't stand the narrator. But the book is amazing once everyone calls him out, & the ending is amazing. ETA: full review at mrskaoreads.com

Aspen Quick steals things people never miss. Or so he tells himself as he mines memories for their owners' feelings, ambitions, and dreams. I enjoyed this odd little book and its arrogant MC; the ending could've been a bit punchier, but the narrative voice is humorous and overall, a very fun book.

brendanmleonard I'm excited to read this! 9y

Well-written, unique magical premise. I think fans of Holly Black's Curseworkers trilogy will really like it. I also like how it's a very feminist book (with a male protagonist!) without calling attention to the fact.

"Call me at the bookstore when you want to buy your first Jonathan Franzen book." ⬅️ Best insult ever. ???

misswendyd I wrote on GoodReads that the lady authors are killing it with Franzen jabs this year. 😏 9y
