Am I Normal Yet?
Am I Normal Yet?: The Normal Series | Holly Bourne
Evie, Amber and Lottie: three girls facing down tough issues with the combined powers of friendship, feminism and cheesy snacks. Both hilarious and heart-rending, this is Evies no-holds-barred story of struggling to live a normal teen life in the grip of OCD, from the acclaimed author of The Manifesto on How to be Interesting.

“He's been so changeable with her I'm surprised he's not been accepted to Hogwarts for his transfiguration skills.”

The author, Holly Bourne deals with major issues that teenage girls face in their day to day life- feminism, mental health, friendship and boy drama and shows how these themes are interlinked.

“People are broken, so they bully others.“

I imagine this is a very honest portrayal of what it feels like to have OCD. It doesn‘t shy away in the slightest from thoughts and actions that come from having OCD/anxiety but it‘s filtered with optimism and humour. The feminism aspect of it was brilliant and the friendship between the three main characters shone through. I think a lot of young people that struggle with MH would find this book relatable and easy to read. #mhroundrobin

The answer is No.

And neither are you. Isn‘t that wonderful?

My 8 year-old son is upstairs right now listening to opera. Believe me, he didn‘t get his knowledge and love of classical music from me (though I do like it), and it is all a delightful surprise.

YA is not my usual genre, but this was chosen by @daydreamin_star for the #MHRoundRobin. I‘m glad she chose it, as I learned a lot and loved the feminist aspect of the book.

Libby1 Hi, @daydreamin_star ! I hope you‘re well. 👋 6y

Thanks to the lovely @daydreamin_star for the #MHRoundRobin parcel. I‘m so sorry it took so long for me to collect it. Where do you get the gorgeous shiny envelopes?

I‘m glad to be part of a traveling book club that focuses on books about Mental Health. Thanks again, @daydreamin_star for organising this group. 💙

Libby1 I KNOW, @Cathythoughts . Isn‘t that envelope too pretty to be an envelope? 6y

Life has not been good lately and I feel like I am behind on everything but I am glad to finally put this book in the post today - @Libby1 !

I started #MHRoundRobin because of my own MH but two weeks ago someone I knew committed suicide and it's really sunk in how important it is that people know MH is not a weakness. I want to raise as much awareness as I can and this is just one small step towards that.

Hope you enjoy the book Libby!

TrishB Sorry to hear that Faye 💕 take care. I know how catastrophic this is. 6y
Libby1 I‘m so sorry. (((Hugs))). I‘ve been out of town and now have a notification for a parcel at the post office. It‘s probably from you! Thanks so much. I‘m looking forward to starting your selection for #MHRoundRobin . Thanks again for starting the group. 💕 6y

I love Holly's writing. She deftly managed to combine the struggle of living with a long term condition, and a heartbreaking crisis with loveable characters and snort out loud humour. Holly's books deals with friendships and relationships like the older, wiser sister every woman wishes she had had to guide her through her teen years and young adulthood. Really informative & thought provoking. A gripping first person insight in to OCD.

For #allthebooksoct, the prompt for today is #squadgoals. So here are two squads that I absolutely adore.

First up the HP trio who go from strength to strength throughout the series.

Secondly the trio in Am I Normal Yet series. A group of girls who are supportive, feminist, and make each other stronger. 😍

Time to try out Litsy for myself! With Instagram's algorithm being the bane of my existence, it'd be nice to try something new.

I haven't read this book yet, but it sounds good! Did you read it/like it?

This book was incredible. Honestly. As someone who suffers with OCD, I found the representation of it in this book to be so spot on. But on top of that I also loved the storyline, the emphasis on friendship and feminism, and just how strong and powerful the book is. I would highly recommend this book and I am cursing myself for not reading it sooner!

I loved pretty much every single thing about this novel. it very sensitively portrayed the realities of OCD and anxiety in a relatable way. the way evie breaks her thoughts down into 'good', 'bad' and 'worse' portrays the way that anxiety causes thoughts to escalate, and turn the smallest of problems into unmanageable situations.

Honest book about living with mental health. It's certainly not 'sugar-coated' like many of the other YA mental health books; it's a very unique story. We watch a girl, Evie, living with OCD (her recovery, her friendships, boys etc.) Beautiful, heart-breaking story. JUST READ IT!

100% on the defeating mental health stigma and appropriation front, 50% on the feminism front - it was neither intersectional nor inclusive and I cannot promote it as feminism that truly equally benefits all females.

April Beautiful pic, as always, and I love what you had to say in the review. Really useful critiques to someone considering the book! 9y
