2014 NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALISTTravis Coates has a good headon someone elses shoulders. A touching, hilarious, and wholly original coming-of-age story from John Corey Whaley, author of the Printz and Morris Awardwinning Where Things Come Back.ListenTravis Coates was alive once and then he wasnt. Now hes alive again.Simple as that. The in between part is still a little fuzzy, but Travis can tell you that, at some point or another, his head got chopped off and shoved into a freezer in Denver, Colorado. Five years later, it was reattached to some other guys body, and well, here he is. Despite all logic, hes still sixteen, but everything and everyone around him has changed. That includes his bedroom, his parents, his best friend, and his girlfriend. Or maybe shes not his girlfriend anymore? Thats a bit fuzzy too. Looks like if the new Travis and the old Travis are ever going to find a way to exist together, there are going to be a few more scars. Oh well, you only live twice.

I had so much fun during round nine that I had to do it again. This round I‘m doing contemporary fantasy in Group P and Paranormal cozy mysteries in group W.#LMPBC #groupp #groupw #round10. https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/5080444aead2ca0ff2-l...

Roary47 If I‘m feeling crazy I‘ll jump into the paranormal cozy with you. 🤪 4y
Littlewolf1 @Roary47 then I think you should start feeling crazy 😜 lol 4y
Littlewolf1 @LibrarianRyan I don‘t know if you‘re participating in this, or even care to participate in this, but I was wondering if you would like to join our group. We are group W and are doing paranormal cozy mysteries. If not, no worries, I was just curious. 4y

LibrarianRyan @Littlewolf1 Well. I am doing 2 graphic novel groups, but I could totally be persuaded for a paranormal cozy. I do love them. And I bet I have some new ones sitting in a box just waiting for tomorrow to open them. 😉 4y
LibrarianRyan Would you be interested in a Graphic Novel Group? For adults or for kids? 4y
Littlewolf1 @LibrarianRyan lol... there could definitely be, we never know. Sure, I am up for a graphic novel, what type are we doing for adults. 4y
LibrarianRyan @Littlewolf1 Dont know. Everyone will pick their own. This last round I did crazy fantasy, someone did biography (which I just finished and it was so good), we had one about a house or a plot of land that was odd but different, and then the My Favorite thing is monsters which was real big a few years ago. It will be what ever we pick. I don't even have my suggestions ready yet. 4y
Littlewolf1 @LibrarianRyan cool, I‘m signed up and will start looking for some selections 4y

To its benefit, there's a fair amount of humor in Noggin. I didn't lurrrrrrrve the book overall; but if you want to read it, I wouldn't try to talk you out of it. In a similar vein, I'd recommend We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse #1) instead. [I would think that anyone who would read the YA Noggin could handle the adult Bobiverse, but maybe I'm forgetting content inappropriate for younger readers.]

This book sounds weird, but it‘s a favorite coming-of-age novel.

Travis was a 16-year-old boy dying of cancer with great parents, a loving girlfriend, and a best friend. He decided to have his head frozen, in hopes of having it reattached to a donor body far in the future.

Well, the future comes in 5 years. At 21, his girlfriend is engaged, and his best friend is still in the closet, & going back to high school without them is hard.

Try it! 5⭐️

I‘m reading three #ComingofAge novels right now. It‘s one of my favorite tropes. I especially appreciate ones written for adults like Okasana, Behave! Noggin is excellent. Everything, Everything is okay. I hope to finish them all this weekend!

I know @RamsFan1963 is going to hate this episode because Wesley, but I like the fatherly moment between Picard and Wesley at the end.

Travis was dying of cancer #WaitingfortheMiracle. (Willing suspension of disbelief here!) He had his head frozen and five years later it‘s reanimated and attached to a donor body. Now, Travis is having an #IdentityCrisis. His friends have aged, his girlfriend is engaged to someone else, and his mom can‘t stop crying.

This is more of a coming-of-age story than science fiction. #StarTrekSummerMay #MayMovieMagic

Cinfhen This is the same author as that other book you posted this week...I can‘t recall the name but I remember I stacked it 🤦🏼‍♀️ 6y

John Corey Whaley writes compelling, thought provoking stories that engage the mind & the heart & Noggin is no exception. Dying teen Travis Coates undergoes a radical medical treatment that may give him a second chance at life. 5 years after his head was cryogenically frozen, it is reattached to a donor body. Navigating his new life is complicated by old relationships/friendships. Travis needs to sort out the past before he can really live. Great!

Noggin has a fun scifi premise (HEAD TRANSPLANT to survive terminal cancer) and a goofy lovable narrator, which is enjoyable, but it is also so much more. A lot changes between when Travis goes on ice and when he comes back, and he has to adjust, mourn the things he lost, and find a new place to fit. I read this soon after I was diagnosed with an ongoing health condition, and it really resonated with me.
