Beautiful Darkness
Beautiful Darkness | Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl
Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.Sometimes life-ending.Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

#2022Book59
I liked that most of the side characters got to do a lot more in this book, because they‘re still more interesting than the two main characters. My problem with this novel is that every solution just seemed a little too convenient. Instead of the characters really working or fighting to beat the “bad guys,” things just kind of worked in their favor every time.

Usually to me the books after the first are never as good… I am so grateful that isn‘t the case with this series!! I was still as hooked as I was with the first and I am looking forward to seeing where it leads!!

Pretty interesting. I didn‘t like Lena in this book so I‘m glad we didn‘t see a whole lot about her. We are definitely delve more into other characters and the plot is thickening.

I read the second installment to this series a lot faster than I read the first one. Although there seemed to be less happening in this book, it was nice to see the character development, and to meet entirely new characters.
I still love the relationship between Ethan and Lena, and cant wait to see what happens in the third book. Hopefully I can add it to my christmas wishlist.

It was a very long time ago when I read the first one. I like that this series has so many mythical creatures. I struggled maintaining focus with this story since I was starting to loose interest. I might try to give this one another try based on my enjoyment of the first story. I was so tired when I first put this up I forgot to mention it is my #bookspin for April.

This book is a continuation of "Beautiful Creatures". The story didn't disappoint me. I like the mystery and gloom present in the plot! The main characters are again trying to save their love, they overcome obstacles and even sacrifice each other! Their connection is impossible and therefore so attractive! This is a charming book!

Loved this sequel!!

It brought up a lot of references to the first book and it was well done. It helped explain the current story and bring new information to light.

Can't wait to pick up the next book!

I could feel how hard the authors tried to make this book good. Sequels are hardly ever better than the first and this book doesn't break the rule. There was a lot of new lore introduced and a few new interesting characters too. I'm still planning on reading the rest of the series and this book moved the story along nicely.

A bit of a departure from the first book, but done well. I love my boy Ethan so getting more of his development was nice. This second book expands the world and acts as a bridge to further storytelling. Already excited to read the third. P.S. I read this in 2018 whoops

Just hit page 250 yay I‘m half way done!!! Some time I wish I wasn‘t a slower reader but at the same time it‘s nice to be able to process and savior every moment. I just wish I had more time everyday to read. I feel like I‘m go go go all day.

When you go to get your kiddo her free summer reading swag and end up going home with more than she did. 😂 #sorrynotsorry #summerreading #changinghands #bookhaul

Insightsintobooks I did the same thing, but in my defense it was my birthday lol. 6y
LittlePixels @Insightsintobooks Sounds like a great reason to me! My daughter's summer reading was my excuse to hubby for even going to the bookstore. #anyexcusetobuybooks 😄 6y

It‘s to late to start now at 2am but I can‘t wait. There were no follow up movies to the first so this is exciting. I get to read it with no outside influence. But I wonder why there was only one movie.

I loved the first book so much but this one is quite boring and doesn't look like it holds much promise so I'm bailing so that I don't ruin the first one for myself

I devoured this one, must faster than the first book. I liked this one better than Beautiful Creatures, I think. We got to see and learn more of the world, and expand beyond any similarities with Twilight.

Oh, and Liv is an amazing addition.

I ended up liking this a lot more than I had expected. And surprisingly, I wasn't too lost considering it's been three years since I read the first book
