The poem, “Sick,” is super cute and silly. It shows a girl trying to throw every illness she knows at her parents in order to miss schools until she realizes it‘s Saturday and it‘s not needed. Kids will all love this book for how silly it is and they will relate to having tried this before.
The poem I choose was “Sick.” This poem is about a child who‘s complaining about all sorts of illnesses. She does this to get out of going to school. By the end of the story you realize she‘s not sick at all and that she just really didn‘t want to go to school.

I really enjoyed this collection of poems. I have read from this book since I was a child and could see this being used in any grade level classroom. - Shel Silverstein was the first poet I ever read as a kid. I credit him with getting so many children interested in poetry. Sick was my favorite poem of his. It always made me laugh. I don‘t have room here to type the poem in its entirety so I kept to the first 2 lines. Anyone else a Shel Silverstein fan as kid?

Kicked off February with this book of adorably weird poems.
Some of them made me giggle out loud while reading them
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
The rhyme and rhythm in this book is fantastic and helps you read with a purpose that really brings out the meaning behind the text.
Poetry. Another vey well known poetry book. I remember reading this book when I was younger and coming back to it know as I am a little older holds even more meaning. These poems are written for children and I think that they can get a lot of meaning from them but its just different coming back to them as an adult.
