Brian's Winter
Brian's Winter | Gary Paulsen
10 posts | 29 read | 2 to read
Instead of being rescued from a plane crash, as in the author's book "Hatchet," this story portrays what would have happened to Brian had he been forced to survive a winter in the wilderness with only his survival pack and hatchet.

Just as good as the first! I enjoyed this much more than The River. Can‘t believe I never read these as a kid. #thingsincommon blue on cover, author

BookBosomed1 My partner loves these books! She has listened to the entire series via audiobook while on road trips. The books are very well done. 3y

Mehso-so

I listened to the audio and enjoyed it. It looks like I rated the first two books 4 stars each, but on thinking back, I feel like “Hatchet” should have been 4 stars and “The River” probably 3.5, same as this one. In any case, it was interesting to see the kinds of things Brian had to do/learn in order to survive over the winter.

This is a great sequal to Hatchet. Brian is still stranded in the woods, with only a few supplies. He is hit by the brutality of winter in this book. The ending was a bit predictable, with Brian discovering other humans.

Just started this one today. So far it's very good! I always thought that the first book ended too abruptly.

"Initially he worried that he might be going crazy. But then he decided if you felt you were crazy you weren't really crazy because he had heard somewhere that crazy people didn't know they were insane."

melrailey I started rereading these books this year. I remembered loving them and decided to read them to my dad while he was in a coma. 8y
