Advertised as modern retelling of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. Pan. I finished this book but I detested all of the characters and had a hard time finishing the book as I didn't want to spend more time with those nasty (fictional) people. The original is better.

I finished one book for #awesomeaugust readathon
This was just so so the setting a island off the Mexican main land, six strangers where deceived on why they were invited to the island to find out their lawyer set it all up Miriam the main character is the narrator who after awhile gets irritating, it‘s kind of sad murder mystery with all their true colors being shown and the lawyers motivation on bringing them to the island

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 Thanks for playing along.😊 (edited) 3y

A modern twist on And Then They Were None but with a grittiness I didn't expect. I found the beginning a bit confusing but quickly settled in and needed to know how everything came together. Howzell Hall doesn't give you room to draw a breath between twists & reveals!

More visible progress in my quest to #readmyowndamnbooks! March didn‘t see much progress since I had a tonne of library holds come in but there is some progress! Not much will come in this month for me so I expect to get through a few more in April. I‘m really behind in my goal to clear 4 books a month from my TBR but maybe April will catch me up a bit.

#AprilTBR

TheLudicReader Read The Family Upstairs. You‘ll motor through it in a couple hours. 4y
janeycanuck @TheLudicReader Ooh, thanks! I‘ll make it my next fiction read. 4y
Amandajoy I like your cart. I may have to put some of my book stickers on mine. 4y
janeycanuck @Amandajoy the “what would Jane do” is a magnet. I move it side-to-side sometimes to let my SO whether or not he should dare interrupt my reading. I don‘t think he knows I do that 🤪 4y

Overall I liked this book and would recommend it,but I do have some mixed feelings about parts of it. There are some wonky plot points and the main character has some unnecessary, sometimes awkward thought tangents. The story definitely hooked me enough to get past those issues and it was a different twist that I was happy to see.

I had some visible progress in my quest to #readmyowndamnbooks in February! I‘ve had so many holds come in at the library that progress has been slow but I‘ll take it! I‘m starting my #MarchTBR with about 30 of the 40 books I gathered up at the beginning of Jan and I have great faith I can get through a good handful this month!

JamieArc That hashtag 🤣 4y
Julsmarshall I may have to borrow that hashtag! 4y
Hooked_on_books I‘m working toward the same goal! I was pretty successful with it last year, so this year I‘m trying to build on that and read 15 of my own physical books each month. So far so good! I‘m keeping track on a white board so I‘ll know how I‘m doing. 4y

Someone got to go on a 6 mile walk today and insisted we stop to sniff every tree. Now I get to decide what we're doing for the rest of the night. Book, blanket, tea.

It wasn't the best written book, but I enjoyed the plot and the author either hit her groove or I got used to the slightly bumpy prose by the time I was halfway in.

Holy crap! I really enjoyed this book. Read it in a day and was hooked. I needed to know what happened. Miriam is a little annoying and is an unreliable narrator and a little delusional. This doesn‘t have the best ratings on here, but it‘s a good mystery. Basically everyone in the book is awful. Though the ending was a little anticlimactic, but I had to keep reading to see what happened.

LiteraryinPA This has been on my list but now I might have to move it up! 5y

Taking a break in reading to tell you all how hooked I am on this book right now!

Yes, Miriam is a little annoying and definitely a little crazy, I just need to know what happens!!

I picked this up today and am already 150 pages in!

Definite Agatha Christie- And Then There Were None vibes 💚💚

Hubby got this book for me for Christmas and it just came in!

I‘m so excited to read this book. It‘s supposed to be a retelling of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 We‘ll see!

Here are the 12 books I would pick for my book club. I‘ve never actually been in a book club. Meeting with a bunch of people I don‘t know, even if it is to talk about books STRESSES me out!

I tried to pick books from all genres. Though as I‘m posting, I realize I forgot NF. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I pulled all these off my TBR.

#MyIdealBookclub

Scochrane26 I started going to a book club at my library earlier this year. It‘s a small group, everyone is older than me, and I like it. They‘re not strangers anymore. 5y
Laughterhp @Scochrane26 Yeah, my library advertised one and I thought about going, but never got around to it and now I don‘t think they have it anymore. 5y
Chrissyreadit You have a very diverse list! I would definitely be excited to read several of them 5y
Mdargusch We have a family book club. It‘s my 4 daughters, one daughter‘s MIL, and my niece. It‘s fun! 5y

Not my favorite read of the year, but entertaining enough to finish. Seven strangers, one gnarly secluded island...and wicked, deadly secrets. Apparently a reimagining of Agatha Christie‘s And The. there Were None.

I was really excited about this retelling of And Then There Were None, but it just didn‘t work for me. I can‘t remember disliking the characters so much right away in ATTWN, but I almost instantly disliked all of the characters in this one, especially Miriam.* She wore on my nerves. I nearly bailed, but pushed through it. #Booked2019 #newin2019 #readingwomen #mysteryorthrillerwrittenbyawoc

Read in June.

Bookzombie Unlikable characters do not always influence my rating. 🙂 5y

I liked the concept of the book and the writing. I found it fun to read, but it left me with so many unanswered questions and I‘m just not sure how I feel about the ending at all.

Seven strangers are invited to an island for the weekend. Little do they know the secrets they keep will cost them dearly. Written in homage to Christie‘s classic And Then There Were None, Hall‘s work doesn‘t shine like the original, but it has a few spooky parts. Add an unreliable narrator, and you get a twisty story that makes you wonder who‘s telling the truth. Worth a read.

I made #SebastianKitty model for the picture. #catsoflitsy
