I'm trying something a little new on my blog. I've posted an article with an in-depth reaction to the tagged book along with audio of me reading the post, for those who'd like a podcast or audiobook effect (it's about the pace of a podcast but with just one voice like most audiobooks):
http://imperfecthappiness.org/2024/12/10/on-mastery/

If you visit the article, please let me know what you think!

Texreader I enjoyed the article very much. You are quite the writer and I love your passion. I didn‘t listen to it because it‘s too late and I‘m in bed. 2w
Cuilin Fabulous read, as someone with ADHD I can relate to the stepping away. I may check out the book yet I don‘t know what I want to master right now. 🤷‍♀️ thanks for sharing. 2w
ImperfectCJ @Texreader Thank you! I used to write a lot more but got discouraged and stopped doing much for a while. I could have put writing on my "stepped away" list, too. :-) 2w
ImperfectCJ @Cuilin Thank you! The book is very corporate/traditional career-oriented, so I'm not sure how universally helpful it would be. It's possible it just hit me at the right time. I'm not sure if the things I want to master will stay the things I want to master, but I figure that starting in that direction might be a good way to go for me. We shall see, I guess! 2w

Like many books in this genre, this could be a lot shorter, and the quote selection is sloppy (there is one hilariously misattributed to Mark Twain), but chapters 15 and onward on mastery and scheduling to support mastery are quite helpful. Nothing groundbreaking, but the concepts are ordered in such a way that they click for me. Very man-oriented, very geared towards a specific kind of career, but I think it's translatable to my situation.

Birthday bathroom selfie. In typical grown-up fashion, it's pretty much a regular day, but I'm experienced enough that I've structured my regular days with playing and singing, so it's pretty okay. And since I have a December birthday, I've been saying I'm my new age for 6 months, so that part's not a surprise, either! (Or at least not a huge surprise.) Almost done with the tagged book, which I'm finding pretty helpful after a rocky start.

Silo likes when my quest to live a purposeful life intersects with his life's purpose. He's pretty sure I should be blocking out more time for cozy lap snuggles.

Some of the business books on my bookshelf. Some I‘ve already read, others I have yet to read. Most are real estate books because I work in that field. I read these for knowledge not pleasure.

Are you good at multi-tasking? If so, you might consider reading this book. Multi-tasking is in fact the best way to rob yourself of our most valuable resource - time. I‘m a living testimony to this book. I read it, put it into action in my career, and I was promoted within a month.

Overall view: 💯

This book teaches you the importance of narrowing down, “That One Thing”, and pretty much sticking with it.👌🏻

Keller not only describes how to achieve happiness, time and a better lifestyle. But also delivers the tools on creating his own abundant schedule that honestly works!🙌

👉I‘ve applied Keller‘s methods as it has made my life that much simpler. I used to do too many things, this helped a lot! #theonething #garykeller

A bit surprised about my slow reading month.
I have about 100 books in progress. If I FOCUS, I bet I can finish more this month. #octoberwrapup

I'm out of my reading slump. It's as if the flu is gone and now I want to eat, eat, eat.

I can‘t say enough good things about this book! The suggested techniques make so much sense, I plan to implement all of them. I‘m convinced it will help my business and personal life grow and run smoother. A lot of what Gary suggests I have already done in one form or another, but now I understand the big picture and will be able to use it effectively in practice.

This was a great book to read to help focus on the things that matter most. I would recommend that everyone read it, at least once.

Changing gears for a few reads. Too much true crime, horror, mystery, and thriller books. Need to lighten up, refresh, read some things from different areas of the bookstore/library.

This book provided me some good insights on how to manage time in a more efficient way my ignoring the most unimportant things in life. I have bookmarked a lot of ideas mentioned in this book, and hope to remember it and follow it in my life. #TimeManagement #LifeSkills #MakeLifeBetter #OneGoal

RaimeyGallant Good to know. :) And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you need it. 7y

Picked this up on my therapist's recommendation, after several months of floundering. It's a business book (and like every other business book, could have been 50% shorter...), but had some interesting insights into prioritizing in a meaningful way that can play out in personal or business worlds. A bit pedantic at times, and overly focused on money as a sign of success, but worth a flip through.

This is one of my favorite books."The One Thing"helps you to discover your most important goal, and give you tools to ensure you can use your time productively to get there. This book reveals that many of the maxims we except as good practice are actually myths that only hinder our progress and also provide advice on how to live your life with priority, purpose and productivity without sending other aspects of life out of balance...

geodynamical_nonfiction I have this in ebook form. Eager to finish some books and get to it next. 8y

Our Firm's fall book club read. It's a bit frustrating in the day and age of 'multi-tasking' to figure out all of your habits are wrong...if you listen to the authors of this book. Not sure what I'm agree yet but anything has got to be better than what I'm doing now. #100in2020

What's better than a husband who also reads!? ? chillin' with my boys on a quiet cold Saturday morning. He says he likes this book because it's about not letting success getting in the way of things you want to do and the balance of work and personal life (finding the "one thing" you want to do!)
