I see a new book in my future. 😃

I'm on the hunt for good books about virtues. I like Prior's take on the subject. She states in the intro that we may come to different conclusions and that's good. I love that. Some of the choices I agreed with and others not so much. Unfortunately, there was something that didn't draw me in tight. Each time I'd start reading my mind would wander and I had more desire to vacuum than read. I bailed after about 2/3 off the book.

So excited that I finally picked this up. But two chapters in and I'm annoyed. Quick book blurb: Fi comes home to people moving into her home, her husband and kids gone. They hadn't divorced yet. So why am I so close to tossing the book? Because it's all about the house. NOT ONE: "where the hell are my kids?!" Okay... I'll give it a chance, there may be a good reason, but it better show up in Chapter 3.

You know it's a keeper when you get the book at a library sale for .50 even though it reeks of cigarette smoke. First thought, "I'll read it and donate it." Then you read the first chapter. It's so awesome you go online and order a fresh copy so you can keep it and pour over it and stick your nose in it... Because somehow knowledge can be absorbed through the nose, right?

Lisa Gardner just keeps churning out awesome books. Love that she brought back Flora Dane. The interactions between Flora and D.D. are done well. Love the vigilante and homicide detective working together.

My first light read in a while. Good for some laughs. Good to have all loose ends tied up happily.

Love the psychological aspect. End was drawn out a little more than I like. The writing was great... Until it wasn't. Sometimes simple is best. Not every action needs fantastic descriptions. Still a good pick.

Changing gears for a few reads. Too much true crime, horror, mystery, and thriller books. Need to lighten up, refresh, read some things from different areas of the bookstore/library.

Took a long break from reading true crime, but I'm back in with my favorite true crime author. Miss her😢

I'm addicted to Lisa Gardner's stories. I love the way she weaves on sub plots. You know the query has done a really good job when you are grateful for the boys two of course the b bad guys.

So excited...kicking off my weekend reading early. Feeding my Lisa Gardner addiction. I usually try to avoid series, but her stories work so well as stand-alones that I'm addicted. I must now read them all.

Higher than So-So, but lower than Pick. I love Megan Miranda's books, but for some reason this one was just a bit drawn out. Still a good story. Interesting twist. Good mystery.

This is #8 in the D.D. Warren series. It is the first one I've read. And dog-gone-it, now I want to read them all. Lisa Gardner does a fabulous job making the book stand strong as a stand-alone. Clearly there are references to past storylines, but you don't feel like you're missing out. Great characters, great fast-paced story.

Starting this one. I liked The Girl on the Train, so hope this one is as good or better.

I don't know what I expected from this book, but I don't feel like it met any expectations. It wasn't bad. It was slow and didn't have many answers to questions that arised (on my part).

Not what I was expecting. That's a good thing, I thought rant, but it wasn't​ that. It was her heartache of giving so much to something for so long and then uncovering a dark side. The best I could equate it to would be finding out your marriage of thirty years was a sham. 💔 I have so much respect for her.

It held my interest, but I have to agree with a reviewer on Goodreads who said, it steps into another genre not mentioned because it would be a giveaway to the twist. To me stepping into another genre, no matter what it is at the end, seems like back forced twist.

OMG, just started this and already the characters are taking hold of me. I have a feeling I'd better get some Kleenex handy.

The book was okay. I think too many characters were way too similar. Every character, seriously every one, even minor characters, broke off mid sentence and or changed thought mid-sentence. And still not a fan of political bashing of parties, but at least Mr. Hawley gave equal time...even though there was an edge toward one.

Not fond of the ending, but I don't hate it.

My book is an earlier printing (2001) so not sure if the page numbers are the same...Always wonder about that. #BookishHoroscope

Sorry, it's so fuzzy, my camera and my photo skills kind of stink. But this piece, don't we all feel this way at some time. That we have to pick because the juggling is so precarious and the thought of dropping one precious ball is too horrifying.

Wow! I've never read anything by Sylvia Plath. Which considering she wrote poems makes sense because outside of Shel Silverstein and Edgar Allan Poe, they don't resonate much with me. Such a sad story that seems hopeful toward the end. But then you realize this novel was a thinly veiled version of Plath's life and it's heartbreaking. Beautiful and sad. I think I'll try some of her poems.

I have to admit I kept wondering "when is something going to happen?" However, the writing is fantastic and it truly reads like you're watching a tv show where people describe their experience at a haunted house. Even though you don't get much haunt until the end, it's a fairly short read. What makes that work so well, for me, is it comes off as plausible. Nothing over-the-top dramatic, but that's what makes it eerie.

Just started this book while waiting for kids at band practice. It's already grabbed my attention, can't wait to get more reading time tomorrow.

The MC is an elitist nightmare. Other issues that drive me crazy: info dumps that serve no purpose and slow the story, and authors trying to force feed me their opinions. No, they don't come off as relative to the story. They come off as hitting pause and preaching. Story is okay. Could have been better if the other two concerns had been addressed.
