This year I've read less than usual (I'm currently at 75/80 on my Goodreads Challenge) and I couldn't pick 21 books because most of my reading were just ok.. So here's my top 1️⃣0️⃣
"Six of Crows" and "Tre gocce d'acqua" are my absolute favorites ?

Most of my picks are italian novels and graphic novels, maybe unknown to the majority of Litsy ?

DrexEdit I've been reading the Wayward Children series too. Not as far along as you are though. John Boyne is on my list for 2022. I wish I could read in a second language, not that I need more reading choices! 3y

I‘m late to the fabulous party; here‘s my #Top21of21. It‘s been too fun to browse! Thank you tagging me, @Nute!

Size very, very vaguely corresponds to ranking. Honestly, it was so hard to figure out who made the cut that it could be a different list on a different day. (See many others‘ top hits for books that could have been included, like Project Hail Mary, The House in the Cerulean Sea, and multiple Becky Chambers!) What a great reading year.

tenar I noticed while posting this that all four books I read by Ursula K. Le Guin this year are here. She‘s become a serious contender for favorite author status, a spot currently held by Natsume Soseki. Maybe there‘s room for two at the top! 3y

tenar @Bookwormjillk Since its reputation proceeded it, I thought I knew a bit of what to expect (plus seeing lots of clips of Sidney Poitier, hah). But the depth of it! Especially in the female characters - I was so moved by Beneatha. It‘s a fabulous play. What a nice memory to have with your mom! 3y

But I think she came from a family of anthropologists and writes about her imagined worlds in a way that might interest you, where we learn about them while learning about ourselves. She also wrote nonfiction and poetry. Let me know if you get curious 🤓 I‘m excited to sit down this week and figure out what to read from her next! 3y

I finally had to get pencil & paper to make a list of future reading material. You all are STELLAR readers! So many books that I had never heard of. So many books rocketed to the top of next year‘s reading list because of enthusiastic complimentary words.👇🏽

My list has already evolved after reading the selections of other Littens and then recalling, “Oh, yes, I read that book and it was excellent. Nute Fantastic reading this year! I imagine that if I reread Night, it would make every Top-Read List for me in that year. I am discovering so many new books because of everyone‘s choices. It was fun to look back over the year. It was a challenge to select. For that very reason, I don‘t often call books “favorite.” It seems that I find some merit in just about every book, but some a whole lot more than others.🙂
These are books that I shall continue to think about and maybe reach for again one day.

Maybe because over the years many of these readers have become my friends or maybe it‘s because there is an opportunity to be in discussion about the books with the folks who selected them. Whatever it is, Helen, I knew that we would have books in common.🤗 3y

After I read it, it returns to the bottom of the pile of books lingering there, patiently waiting for its resurface at the top and another acquaintance. I like knowing that it brought you back to reading for pleasure after the heavy intense reading required in college. That‘s wonderful, Vinny!🤗 3y

Nute @marleed When I came across The Anthropocene in the bookstore, my first thought was that it was misshelved because I had noticed the author‘s name as well as the title. I wondered why is this book in the Essays section instead of the YA section. Initially the curiosity wasn‘t enough for me to seek an answer, but when I got home, I looked into it.👇🏽 3y

Nute @marleed 👆🏽 I was surprised, not by the fact that John Green had done this, more by the fact of its well-liked approval standing. I went back to the bookstore the next day to purchase it. I‘m so glad that I did!🤗 3y

marleed @Nute Oh I had similar thoughts. I have a stack of YA‘s (all thrifted) and I‘ve read most of them. A few I really liked and others were a miss. I was reticent going into this so it was an audio library loan. Halfway in, I was all in and purchased the hard copy to enjoy in print. Seeing the books on my shelves remind me to work towards a day above 3 stars! 3y
