Predator's Gold (Mortal Engines, Book 2)
Predator's Gold (Mortal Engines, Book 2) | Philip Reeve
Philip Reeve's epic city-eat-city adventure series continues with Mortal Engines Book 2: Predator's Gold, now with spectacular new cover art. With the great Traction City of London completely destroyed, Tom Natsworthy and Hester Shaw travel across the world, trading with other airships and adventuring on the exciting and exotic routes of the Bird Roads. When their little scrapyard aircraft is pursued by rocket-firing gunships, the ice city of Anchorage offers them sanctuary. But as Tom and Hester soon discover, it is no safe refuge. Devastated by plague in recent years and haunted by ghosts and madness, Anchorage is headed for the Dead Continent of North America. It's a perilous course, one that will take them directly into a firestorm of danger and conflict. Read the books before the Mortal Engines film hits theaters in December 2018!

Excellent world-building with so-so character relationships. For the full review, please visit http://benjamin-m-weilert.com/index.php/2020/12/16/book-predators-gold-2003/

A solid sequel to the first. The known characters are developing and new ones show up. Reeves builds up on the world he created, which I alway enjoy. I didn't quite like the revelation we get at the end, but I still want to continue the series. We made it through the ice! - of course I want to know what will hapen now!

I rate this book a 6/10. It was a good sequel and I loved how the characters interacted with each other. However, there was a lot of vocabulary I had to look up and some events were slightly unclear. Overall it added to the story nicely.

SassyBookworm Great review!! I totally agree with you about Freya and Penneyroyal. And I also loved the lost boys! I am on book 4! I have been enjoying this series! 6y
jackilynn @SassyBookworm since you are farther in the series than I am please tell me the Lost Boys come back. I still feel like there could still be so much more to their story. 6y
SassyBookworm @jackilynn yes they do! They are quite a large part of book 3 though not necessarily how you think bc book 3 is years later like 14 or 15 years something like that. Book 3 was one of my favorites so far! 6y

The love triangle ruined everything. It was so bad. I can't even describe it. :(

I really enjoyed this second installment of the Mortal Engines series. I honestly had worried how it would go with so many of the previous books characters gone. I enjoyed the new adventure and new and exciting characters. Really excited about things to come with that ending!

MichaelK I've been wanting to read the first one for a while now! Definitely before I see the movie. 6y
SassyBookworm @MichaelK That‘s what I am doing! Trying to get them in before I watch the movie. I really enjoyed book 1...that ending tho 😳 I won‘t spoil it! I‘ve heard mixed review about the movie but the trailers look beautiful so I‘m hoping it‘s good. (edited) 6y
MichaelK Yea I've been wanting to see the movie since I saw that trailer 🤯 as for the book - making the executive decision to move it up in the list. 👏 6y
suzisteffen Oh god I love this series so much. 6y

Audiosewing! It would make more sense if I was listening to Harry Potter but I‘m hooked on the second Mortal Engines novel after seeing the movie. Poor Tom and Hester!

Meeehh. I thought Mortal Engines was way better. This novel ended up being very predictable with characters that only seemed to superficially grow. YA isn‘t really my genre anyway. Guess I‘ll go ahead to book three and hope we see some bigger stuff.

Welp, I‘m trapped under dog.

DGRachel Been there. Nothing to do but enjoy the snuggles! What a cutie! 6y

Reecaspieces Awe!! I love when I am trapped!! 6y
Geeklet @bookcollecter Gravy! You can kinda see her adopted sister Biscuit next to her. They know the rule about no cuddles while I‘m reading but they‘re clearly rebels who don‘t care about rules. 6y

When I got home from Book Club Monday night, I found this book on top of my TBR pile. Yesterday evening, the third book in the series was right next to it. My son keeps adding them every time he finishes one. I think he‘s excited to talk about it! He‘s totally into this series—when he finds a book he really connects with, he doesn‘t stop reading...ever—and I have some reading of my own to do if I‘m going to catch up!

Not as good as the first book and I won‘t be rushing to read the rest in the series but it‘s a fun, quick read. #booked2018 #steampunk

Love this series so replacing my paperbacks with hardbacks #bookmail

Lizpixie I tried to find the books I sent you in hardcover but Hanging Rock was the only one I could find, coz I know you prefer hardcovers. I‘m just happy you don‘t already have them! Girl, you‘re as hard to buy for as I am🤔 7y

"Sleepily she waited for her servants to come help her out of bed. It took her a few moments to remember that they were all dead." I read this sentence and then realized I hadn't read the first book yet!?

Pandyfish I hate when that happens. Guess you'll have to read the first one now! #TBR 8y
