Il tempo dellattesa: La saga dei Cazalet 2 | Elizabeth Jane Howard
17 posts | 23 read | 1 reading | 7 to read

The 2nd book about the Cazalet‘s and we jump forward a year as Britain declares war on Germany. Food rations and food cards are the new normal as is bombs being dropped and the Blitz in London, but at the same time life goes on. This book focuses more on three of the kids in their teens trying to find out what to do with their life. And even when you don‘t like them because they‘re so self centered there‘s something oddly familiar about that as

AnneCecilie well. 6mo
Ruthiella I definitely want to try to get back to this series this year! 6mo
AnneCecilie @Ruthiella I‘ve only read the first two so far, and enjoy the series so far. I got all five for Christmas and I‘m curious to find out what happens to family 6mo

I would do it just to find out what it was like. If you‘re interested in things, it doesn‘t matter too much if you turn out to be any good at them. It‘s doing it that‘s fun.

( talking about acting, but applicable to other hobbies too)

Coincidences. When your current read mentions a future buddy read here on Litsy

sarahbarnes I also found it very hard going. 😂 6mo
AnneCecilie @sarahbarnes Everyone says that, but I was inspired to read it after reading that Shakespeare and Company in Paris was it‘s publisher. 6mo
sarahbarnes What did you think of it? 6mo
AnneCecilie @sarahbarnes I haven‘t read it yet. I think the buddy read starts in Septemberish. 6mo
sarahbarnes Oh nice! A buddy read sounds like the way to go. 6mo

Was feeling low, went to the library, found this while browsing, read twenty pages and instantly felt better.

Part one was one of my favourite books last year. Lovely to be back with the Cazalets. 🩵

1. Fairly frequently. The tagged is one I remember.
2. Generally, Fridays are my favorite and Mondays are the worst.
Thanks to @Eggs @Kdgordon88 @EadieB for the tags!

Volume two of the Cazalet Chronicles doesn‘t disappoint. The focus this time is the Cazalet grandchildren as they navigate WWII and the change in family dynamics that comes with it. I loved that the child‘s-eye view gave us only snippets of what was going on with the adults we met in volume one. The writing is just so relaxing; comfortingly old-fashioned, yet not dated. Perfect comfort reading.

Second in her Cazalet Chronicle, and war has finally broken out, though life continues much as before for the Cazalet women and children, albeit with ever more noticeable privations and inconveniences.
The focus is very much on the younger generation, the girls in particular, and EJH brilliantly captures the mutual bafflement and resentment that is such a feature of relations between adolescents and their parents.

LeahBergen This will be my year of reading the Cazalet Chronicles (or starting to, anyway!). I‘ve loved the other EJH novels that I‘ve read. 3y
quietjenn @LeahBergen I'd totally be down to buddy read them, if you are inclined! 3y

The Cazalet Chronicles continues! This installment focuses on the three eldest daughters, Louise, Clary, and Polly. Although it barely covers two years in time (1939-1941), so much is explored - duty to family and country, identity, marriage, friendship. I enjoyed this one even more than the first. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
And Edward is the absolute worst! 😡

Tamra I recently ordered the first an am looking forward to it after reading all the great Litsy reviews! 3y
LeeRHarry Have just finished this and I agree, I enjoyed this one more than the first - love the characters of Clary and Polly 😊 3y

The life of the cazalet family from 1940 to late 41.I love how dense yet absorbing the writing is, often flitting from characters views within a paragraph. Focusing on the 3 dtrs of the brothers, Louise ,clary, and polly we see thru their teenage eyes how war affects the rest of the family and the secrets and lies that are rife. I am now invested in the fates of these individuals who are infuriating but compelling, and I can't wait to read bk 3.

TrishB I brought the first one last week 👍🏻 4y
Cathythoughts Oh well done 👏🏻Book 2 ...I loved book 1 ... must get moving on this series 4y
andrew61 @TrishB will be interested to see what you think. 4y
andrew61 @Cathythoughts yes I read bk 1 last year Cathy, they are great reads but so dense I think ill need another break before plunging into the next. 4y

First time doing a #bookreport in a while. My reading is very divided these days between professional and pleasure. Can you tell which is which? 🤪
I'm loving The Break (🎧) and Marking Time (📗), book 2 in the Cazalet Chronicles.
I'm learning a lot from The Development of a Therapist (🎧) and It's Not Always Depression (📗)Hoping to actually finish a book this week!
@Cinfhen

Cinfhen Hi 🙋🏼‍♀️ so nice to catch a post of yours 💕I really “enjoyed” The Break but it was heavy stuff. 4y
merelybookish @Cinfhen Hi! I miss keeping up with my Litsy friends but life is extra-busy these days. And yes, The Break is heavy but very compelling! 4y

I have been good lately about NOT buying books and ONLY reading books from my shelves.
However, I still like to peruse book websites and couldn't resist buying Book 2 of the Cazalet Chronicles when I found it on Boot Outlet. 💫

Ruthiella You‘ve been good for almost three months, so reward yourself! 😀 4y
Cathythoughts Great find ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻I read the first book in the Cazalet series .... looking forward to book 2. 4y

Sod it. I'm using another #Cazalets for #maybookflowers #peace. This is the second one in the series and the war is underway. You see the older children dealing with war, whereas in the first book you're focused more on the adults. I love this series so much I have all of them in paperback and several of them - like this one - on kindle as well so that I can read them any time I want.
